Here is your open thread for the game. I'll be there tailgating all day and watching the game through a misty haze of Captain Morgans and Yuengling Lager. Thank God for TiVo and open threads to remember the game the next day. We smashed the record for comments in the last open thread with 288. The previous record was 154 for the Notre Dame game. Keep it rollin' State and enjoy watching the game here with your buddies at BSD!
Go State! Beat the Buckeyes!

I'm not sure what's funnier...
...or that the only thing your amazing "defense" prevented was any chance at a win. It couldn't even force one single punt. Not ONE.
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice...you're a PSU fan who thinks you have a chance with Morelli. I mean, seriously, have any of you seen any of the games this season? And you still thought you had a chance?
I think Morelli should get drafted by the Bears, he'll fit into their system perfectly.
Oh - btw - someone tell us all how "PSU" is a "great" program again...open your eyes people...mediocrity as usual. If you didn't play 4 creampuffs and the rest of the Fat 10 you wouldn't be above .500.
Awful.

Because....
How about this: win a game against a decent opponent in the last 20 years. Oh, right, that one good year. Good job. Now, continue with mediocrity. Carry on.
Maybe you should find a conference that doesn't have ANY remotely decent teams so you can win the conference more than once in the last 20 (let me spell that for you...T-W-E-N-T-Y....years).
Hey, at least you're better than Illinois...wait, what?

Finally...
Real classy coach you have there, admits on TV that he won't even listen to Scott's side of the story. I'd send my kid there...
Oh - and everyone who points out how classless your fans are is a "fucking liar" - then they give the gameday crew a beer shower. I'm not sure if you people are more classless or delusional...
PSU Football: mediocrity (but we had that one good season!) since the last time ND won a bowl game. (yes, that long ago - look it up: 95).

Nah man, I don't get off on that shit. Just pissed me off to read this blog and the "pundit" writes like he hasn't seen the previous 7 weeks. No running game against frickin ND or Michigan should of been the first clue. The losses where AM had to carry the team should of been the second. You guys have a class coach, class school, with top notch student section....See ya in the shoe next year....

Maybe it's the Philly in me...
Did you folks really think PSU would win this? Come on. Weaknesses: QB, RB, TE (more often than not), FB (injury), DBs (what's worse--get beat deep, or give a 10-yard cushion on every pass play?). The defense is good, but Ohio State's OL is relatively bigger (OSU's OL had their way all game). And, goodness--OSU's coaching is not predictable. Sure, PSU inserted a few new ditties into its book the last three weeks. But I wouldn't doubt that Kerry Collins could come back, step behind center, and still call out the same plays. The same is true for Tony Sacca.
The reality is that this team will not regain its swagger until Joe leaves. Why? It simply cannot consistently recruit top talent like other schools. Look at talent development under Joe--PSU can create great defensive players, no doubt. But offensive? Not a chance. If you QB at PSU, expect to work a desk job or play special teams in the NFL. RB? Don't tell me Larry Johnson was the product of quality coaching. He was a self-driven maniac who wanted to prove to the world that he could be a quality player. Would I send my kid to PSU? Well, I say yes because I love the place, but let's be realistic. Joe's merit system + lack of proper development + often waste of talent = crapshoot.
PSU has classless fans (anyone who starts a f--k chant, for example). So does OSU (spraypainting the sign? Good grief). So does Michigan (no one needs to discuss attending an away game at the big house). So does Wisconsin (but they're mostly nice folk... must be the Wisconsin water). Idiots exist in every college stadium. Unfortunately, only those who cause problems get publicity. I find the debate funny, though. It reminds me of when Mets fans accuse Phils fans of being classless, and Phils fans do the same back. It's everywhere, folks.
What else....
The Big 10. The Big 10 is down--big time. Ohio State essentially is the prettiest girl at fat camp. But, at the end of the day, she's still at fat camp. Last year Florida brought it's prom queen, and I don't doubt another school will do the same this year. Do I want to see that? Hell no. I wish a Big 10 team would win the national championship just to shut the collective mouth of the SEC, Big East, etc. I just don't see it happening--yet. Ask me again in three weeks (I still see Michigan playing up against PSU and winning one... who knows).
Ohio State generally. They played well. And they were meticulous in thinking one step ahead of PSU's coaches (though, one must wonder if Joe actually thinks at current speed, or a little slower...). They mixed their plays well. They played like they wanted to stay undefeated, while PSU played like they wanted to stay close. That's what you expect from a better team. Tressel is a great coach. Joe was a great coach. Big difference. We can't compare their careers now, but twenty or thirty years from now, I wouldn't doubt they be mentioned in the same group of names.
Lastly, folks, sit in your chair tomorrow, watch some football, enjoy the fall weather, etc. Why get worked up about a few OSU posters here? Shoot. Ever peak at an OSU (or any opposing team) message board? We may not sling crap, but others do. So, it's only right we expect it here. It's no different than after a PSU win seeing some drunk buffoon yelling at fans from the opposing team, or vice versa. The only way to stop it? Win. It's as simple as that. But, until the program undergoes some changes, we better get used to having visitors a few times each year.

Just got back
I'd love to blame this solely on #14 but i can't. The defense was horrendous. Sickening. The game was over before the idiot threw the pick six. Whether we would have fared better by putting Clark in there earlier is anybodies guess(I doubt it). How can you not force your opponent to punt all game?!?! I want Tressel to coach the Nittany Lions.
Nice job by the asshole who threw the beer on the Gameday crew, just watched it on the DVR, that will really make them want to come back. Dickhead.
Overall the OSU fans were good people, the real fans who traveled to see there team not these meatballs who talk smack on a blog. No excuses here pal, we suck. That's it for now, need sleep.

Reality
He racked up tons of wins against, BAD teams like Rutgers, WVA, Cuse, Temple, MD, Pitt, etc. Granted he always did well in bowl games but since 00 how many big games did they win?
Here is my list of big wins - OSU 05, Tenn 06, Neb 02. The last 2 teams had only decent teams.
Time to slash and burn this program. Lucky for me I also adopted the Army Black Knights in 01 as my "other" team, when they win it's a bonus. It's one of the best venues in college FB.

Stuart...
Oh darn, we lost to the #1 team in the country. They may not be quite as good as Navy, but I think they were a reasonable team to lose to.
Also, last I checked the wins over Wisconsin and Indiana were pretty good wins...DEFINITELY two teams who would've throttled Pitt.
Whatever man, I just feel bad for you. You support one of the worst CFB teams, so to blow off steam you try to taunt fans of a legitimate team. Go outside, get a tan, go for a run, do SOMETHING other than just sitting in front of your computer.
I'm done with you...enjoy life with Butterfingers McCoy.

well I for one can't blame the coaches
OSU saw this game as a way to shut everyone up about their weak schedule, they did it prime time and on TV.
I just hope that BC loses a game along the way so OSU has a chance to get their asses waxed again by some SEC team for the national championship.
I want the Big11 to do well in the bowls, but I don't care to see OSU or scUM win the national title. The fallout would be bad for our recruiting efforts.

Watched the game and....
I'm not a big Morelli fan, and wasn't surprised to see his level of play in last night's game. Not too good, but not too bad - just about what he does every game with a few exceptions either way. Basicially he did what he is equipped to do. Didn't think he'd maintain the first drive effectiveness because the longer he has to think about what he has to accomplish the less he gets done.
But I'm a little taken aback that on the day after the game so many fans seem so shocked at the loss - and if you read the message boards before the kickoff everyone really thought OSU would fold up apparently just because it was a PSU home game.
So my question is that now that you have had a bit of time to reflect on how PSU and OSU played are you really that surprised that OSU won so convincingly? Without the emotion of the loss and looking at the relative strengths and weaknesses of each team, does it make sense?
I suppose I'm surprised at the final score if nothing else - I had predicted a closer, lower scoring game going to OSU, mainly because they are the #1 team and pretty handily have won all their games so far, and thought both defenses were top shelf.
Again, I've tried to word this so as not to offend, but I usually get honest feedback on this site and was wondering if most predictions prior to the game were bravado or really based on what the fans thought would happen. Thanks....

QB Standards At PSU.......
Look.......somebody like Ben Roethlisberger gets a lot of numbers on his own by being able to "sense" the pocket closing and side stepping a tackler or holding him at bay while he continues to look down field to make a play. Morelli, doesn't have that sixth sense that good QBs need to have. The sack against Michigan where he was totally blind sided even though he seemed to be staring to his left for 5 seconds without moving his head anywhere is his season wrapped in a nice little snippet of video footage.
I am of the opinion that Clark, with just a litte more mobility, gets out of the pocket and extends plays/make that extend drives. And his arm isn't too shabby either. If your QB can't move, he better be able to make quick decisive throws and Morelli hasn't shown he can do either.
Sometime I get off topic because I get so fired up over this whole QB issue at PSU. The QB is the most important position on the team. End of story. When your QB is in the 50th percentile overall in the nation at best, you need a lot of help from the other two teams (special, defense) to win in big boy college football.
I am not saying bench Morelli. But I think a very very compelling case could be made to do so.

Shutdown corner
Also, what is the deal with Derrick Williams. The guys seems to flop whenever he gets around a defensive player. If you don't know what I am talking about, take a closer look. I never see him break any tackles. And there were a couple of plays where he flopped on the ground and it didn't look like he was even touched. I am not sure if breaking his arm through him for a loop and he is afraid of being hit, but he has been a pretty big disappointment in my opinion.
Morelli has consistently been a disappointment in my eyes. I don't think he had a bad game, but I just don't feel confident with him leading the offense. He continues to make stupid mistakes, the scramble while carrying the ball like a loaf of bread leading to a fumble, his in ability to lead the receiver, and the interceptions, which for a senior second year starter is absolutely abominable. JayPa ought to be embarrassed that after 4 years that is the type of product he produced.
Ohio State deserved that win, and they deserve the credit, although a lot of people have said the Ohio State really hadn't played anyone before coming into Happy Valley. I am apt to think that they still haven't played anyone.

JK and DWill
DWill has been a sore spot with me for years, it is a basic example of how high school rankings simply don't relate to college results, take a look at the Parade All American players of the years over the last 20 years, sure lots of them moved on to being great college players but there are also a lot of them who you will never have heard of ... some from injuries, some from them being overhyped in high school
You are right about Dwill, people are tackling him with fingernail tackles this year and even moreso last year.
Each and every year I keep telling myself not to believe all the hype from PSU fans, but every year I get dragged into it ...

I wouldn't Say
You play 10 games in Baever Stadium, and I tend to think OSU gets 2 blowouts, 6 go either way, and Penn State wins 2 comfortably. Unfortunately for us, we didn't come to play.
So to answer you question, I am suprised.

Re: DWill and J. King
PITT is going through much the same with Dorin Dickerson in that he really hasn't done anything, even through off season camps from the get-go, at the level that would show he's deserving of the pre-college hype. He'll get a better chance to start at LB next season and we'll see if he can't salvage something. Luckily our other two "super recruits" are showing their worth early on in Bostick, who was pretty much starter by default, and McCoy, who has been a real joy to watch play - so their hype seems justifiable, at least to this point.
Anyway - I wouldn't be surprised in PSU finishes strong, maybe one more loss for 8-4 and a bowl, maybe 9-3 if the senior's leadership qualities kick into high gear.
