King

I heard a rumor that Justin King is gone.  He's already packed up and left the campus.  This coming from a friend of a friend that knows Terry Smith.  Don't hold me on this, just heard it and figured I'd share.

Yes, he had a poor season but I was hoping he would return for his senior season.

So King is gone. Harriott is probably not coming back. Timmons is iffy at this point. We're looking pretty thin at corner next year.

I'll believe it
when I see it.  I just can't see him taking off after his stock dropped so much.

Jay-Pa still sucks.

I'm skeptical too
He didn't look impressive at all this year. I think he needs to work on tackling. He never wraps anyone up. He just lowers his shoulder and tries to knock them over or he rolls into their legs. And his shoulder has to be a concern for any NFL scout. Is he going to need surgery? He may turn out to be a great NFL cornerback, but right now there are too many questions for an NFL team to warrant spending a 1st or 2nd round pick on him.

He has his degree, so you can't blame him for not wanting to stick around. Maybe he figures making the league minimum as a late round draft pick would be better than hanging around taking basket weaving and History of Rock and Roll classes for another year.

Maybe His Shoulder..........
caused him to say....I better get out of here and not expose myself to something more serious.

He graduated
I wouldn't read too much into this.  He may not be able to start grad school till next fall.

Graduation
I would think he needs to maintain some kind of minimum course load to stay on the team. He could take correspondence courses, but I would think he would still want to stay on campus to have access to the facilities and stay close to the team to work on drills.

But then maybe he's planning on having surgery on the shoulder and sitting out spring practice all together to heal up. In that case he wouldn't have to be on campus and he could take his courses from home. This might make sense.

I guess we'll have to wait for another week or two. He has to declare for the draft by January 15 if he's going to go. So we'll have our answer soon enough.

Some dislike him
but I hope he comes back. I think if he came back he'd be extremely motivated to perform much better than he did this year. We also need a year to develop some secondary players, so having him come back adds to our depth.

No doubt
He has the physical tools to dominate. He shut down Ginn and Meachum and everyone else in 2006. He's still the same player. They just didn't let him play man-to-man this year.

I don't think that's exactly true
He seems to have problems with physical receivers that run actual routes like Ohio State, Indiana and Michigan State this year, and Michigan did with decent success last year.

Ted Ginn is nothing more than a burner, and is not a very polished receiver.  It's a short list of people who had the speed to run with him, but Justin King was one of them.  It was a major flaw in OSU's offensive strategy that they were forced to correct because they could no longer rely on players with crazy physical skill (Smith and Ginn).  This year when Justin had to cover OSU receivers had more skill and were making double moves on him he had trouble staying with him.  I think that Ohio State is actually better this year offensively because of this.

I understand that James Hardy is much bigger than Justin, but he was beat in man coverage a lot against Indiana.  I think that this is something the Buckeyes and Spartans saw in game tapes and took advantage of late in the season, and may be at least partially responsible for a lot of the zone coverage we saw at the end of the season that everybody has been complaining about.

I'm sure injuries have something to do with it, but I think there is more to Justin King's trouble this year than an injury not serious enough to be reported in the general media or to cause him to miss any playing time.

I have checked with several team sources...
these rumors are unfounded...King has not yet made his decision and several people who are close to him expect him to be back next year.

I promised not to reveal any names...
and I intend to keep it that way...All I can say is if this rumor turns out to be true ALOT of people on the team are going to be shocked.

I will try my best...
but be aware I did not speak with Justin himself and my sources did say he hasn't made his decision YET. So this could still go either way, but he has not moved out of SC.

Yea
he's not even in the class for this draft on nfldraftscout. If he was going to leave, he would've came out already, look at Mendenhall. Everyone says it about a few days after the game, around 3 or 4. King still hasn't said anything, he should stay he needs to improve his stock and work on his game.

Big Ten update
OSU has a few guys who are going to come out.

MSU is losing a WR early.

Hardy is leaving Ind early.

Mendenhall is leaving Ill early.

Manningham is staying at Mich.

Let him go
If he wants to go let him.  He hasn't been all that impressive.  Sure he did some things his sophomore year, but look at how much pressure that was put on opposing team QB's.  That much pressure makes any DB look good.  He should go and not let the door hit him on the way out!!

by nittanyjo on Jan 9, 2008 5:51 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

That's a bit harsh
He give him a little for being injured for awhile during the year, and who knows if Bradley putting the corners 10 yards off the ball was the fault of his injury. Plus during games where he was getting beat they never sent everyone over to double team they guy.

Plus we really need the secondary depth. With transfers and charges coming from various players our secondary is pretty then after King, Wallace, Sargent and Davis. We need him around and I think he's a good asset to the team.

re:
Like I stated above a couple of my sources say they would be "SHOCKED" if King left. These are legit sources. I am not saying it won't happen, but if it does people will be shocked.
