So what...

they’re no Syracuse?

LOL!

I just wanted to see how well we could do on the road in a key Big Ten game. After what we’ve been through in previous seasons, I was just a little hesitant to go all in. Wondering if we’ll get up to #2…

Michigan

That was a great game, but I am not letting myself think the word “championship” until we get that Michigan monkey off our back.

Amen

What a day! That was an asswhipping of magnanimous proportions. Nice work by everyone all around!

Sadly...

I don’t see us getting higher than #3- 1/2 will probably be Bama/Texas in some order, inertia plays waaaaay too big of a part in these things.

John Madden told me 90% of the game was half-mental...

by TheK-GunNeedsReloaded on Oct 11, 2008 11:48 PM EDT   0 recs

I dunno

You never know what those computers are going to do. Alabama’s looking less impressive with every Auburn loss.

Texas has a tough schedule from here, so I think they’ll drop one somewhere. Alabama still has to play Tennessee, Auburn, and at LSU. And if they survive that they have to play probably Florida in the SEC championship game.

I think we’re in a good position. We just have to keep on winning.

by BSD on Oct 11, 2008 11:57 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Sorry

Alabama is looking less impressive with every Clemson loss.

by BSD on Oct 11, 2008 11:57 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

So true...

Man does Clemson suck. I wonder if Bowden and co will keep their jobs through the season. I think we’ll see quite a few coaching changes after this season

by TheMightyErik on Oct 12, 2008 12:01 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I totally agree Mike

I just don’t think that they’ll drop Bama on a bye week. Now, if we were talking about the Blogpoll, I think we have a shot. AP is too based on inertia, we would have had to beat tOSU by that score to jump Bama. Of course, give it three weeks and some part of the SEC will cannibalize them. So we’ve got that going for us. Which is nice.

That's ok for now...

Texas and Bama still got a lot schedule ahead of them. We do but it isn’t near as bad as what they will be looking at. I like us being right here. I just want the guys to keep focusing the way they have and I love Clark’s composure… calms the whole offense, it seems

by TheMightyErik on Oct 11, 2008 11:57 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Clark

I got to agree with you about Clark and his composure. He seems like he is often in complete control. And when he is not , like when he threw the pick while up 30 some odd, he was completely disgusted with himself. I like seeing that in a qb.

by VVeRPennState on Oct 12, 2008 12:10 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I was just going to say that

I was so impressed that he took it that hard. It shows that his head is in this, and how much this means to him, which gives him more fire to improve himself (although the way he’s been playing, that in itself will be a challenge, regardless of who he’s facing).

by dawsonPSU10 on Oct 12, 2008 2:06 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I can aleady here the spin from Bristol

“Well, Wisconsin obviously sucks. Blah blah blah SEC SPEED blah blah.”

Anyway, I haven’t had that much fun watching a Penn State game in a long time. My favorite part was when they pulled their QB only to have the backup throw a drive-killing pick.

Michigan is so getting owned next week.

by ReadingRambler on Oct 12, 2008 12:07 AM EDT   0 recs

Thanks a lot RR

As much fun as I had watching it you reminded me that I have to hear about the wonderful SEC and how we, as human beings, are all lucky it exists to entertain us with the only quality football in the universe (just ask a southerner)… Sorry, I am just so sick of hearing those people blow their horns all the freakin time

If you can smile when things go wrong, you have someone in mind to blame.

by TheMightyErik on Oct 12, 2008 12:21 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

It's kinda funny

You can tell they’re starting to move the “Greatest conference in the history of ever!” banner to the Big 12. Makes sense when you think about it. The media always overhypes teams with good offenses.

by ReadingRambler on Oct 12, 2008 12:33 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Yup... fleeting fancy

They fall quickly in love and leave in as much of a hurry. Our O and D lines really showed me a lot today. Our individual numbers aren’t as gaudy which has hurt us for heismans in the past and doens’t draw a lot of media love. While Clark, Royster and co may not blow their skirts up they are the embodiment of PSU football.

Win as a team boys!

If you can smile when things go wrong, you have someone in mind to blame.

by TheMightyErik on Oct 12, 2008 12:40 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Exactly

They don’t show up in fancy or outright ridiculous (See Ducks, Oregon) uniforms. They don’t showboat. They don’t get hyped. They just show up and knock your teeth in. Love it. Always will.

by ReadingRambler on Oct 12, 2008 12:46 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Oregon uni's

Yeah, I am watching those abominations run the field as we speak. UCLA is my 2nd favorite (home for me now) and seeing our team, then switching to this is like going from the NFL to the USFL. Pac10 ball is just….. different

If you can smile when things go wrong, you have someone in mind to blame.

by TheMightyErik on Oct 12, 2008 12:49 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

It's really amazing

If you look at Oregon’s “uniforms”, and then think about what Joe would do if Penn State put a stripe on the pants.

by ReadingRambler on Oct 12, 2008 12:52 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I expected

a comfortable win but not necessarily 48-7. Great performance, this alleviates whatever concerns I had about Purdue being an “off” game. Hope Clark can avoid some of these big hits in the future.

The losses in the Top 5 help us but Illinois and Michigan losing is a blow to our SOS.

F**cking Mark May...

Another back handed comment. “We still haven’t beaten an impressive team”. I guess we still have some work to do.

by OMEGAMAN on Oct 12, 2008 12:15 AM EDT   0 recs

May

is a blowhard. Most the national comments I heard so far have been supportive of PSU and the Wisconsin win.

by Touchdown on Oct 12, 2008 12:17 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

And Yet

He picked Wisconsin to win the game. How do you call for the other team to win and then when you beat them handily, say it wasn’t “that impressive”?

by skarocksoi on Oct 12, 2008 8:23 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Screw May

If we beat friggin’ Bama he’d still claim we haven’t played anyone.

I’m terrified when Lou is the voice of reason- and when Rece goes out of his way to note the one OOC that goes against May’s point (OrSt.). May and Skip Bayless should put in a BioDome until a date to be determined.

John Madden told me 90% of the game was half-mental...

by TheK-GunNeedsReloaded on Oct 12, 2008 1:15 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Rece was great

He laid the smack down on May. You could tell May felt like a jackass when Rece pointed out that Oregon State beat his love fest team of USC. Zip it May. We crushed the team you expected to beat us. Give PSU the respect they deserve ass hat.

by cmdpsu15 on Oct 12, 2008 11:41 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I need to go to bed.

I’m gooned up and I’m on an adreneline rush. We are the real deal. And we’re positioned right where we need to be. God willing, if we do get to Miami, I’d rather go in as a number 2 (Beat #1 Georgia in ‘83 Sugar and beat #1 Miami in ’87 Fiesta) as opposed to a number 1 (Lost as # 1 to ’bama in 79 Sugar and ’86 Orange). Lot of football left. We need a little help, but not much. All we have to do is keep winning, and we’re there.

These are the moments I’m thankful I’m alive.

by Ab4PSU on Oct 12, 2008 1:39 AM EDT   0 recs

If this game doesn't speak volumes for this team....

then i don’t know what will. Beating a tough Wisconsin team (I do believe they are a solid football team) in a tough environment by 30+ points SHOULD be enough to warrant some respect. this Penn State team is the best I’ve watched in quite a while. Daryll Clark pacing the sidelines in disgust after the lone interception goes a long way in defining the character of this team….

by paul bucci on Oct 12, 2008 6:03 AM EDT   0 recs

the thing about Clark

he was pissed with himself for a minute, and then got himself under control to be a leader of the team again. I do not miss anything about the Morelli era.

by PSiriUs on Oct 12, 2008 8:12 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

And

I really like how Shipley got in his face and calmed him down. This team just oozes leadership.

by BSD on Oct 12, 2008 9:16 AM EDT to parent up   0 recs

No doubt

I still worry when people say it is because it is JoePa’s ‘last dance’ and all but that may not be true. This is a bunch of guys who sat back and ate two years worth of shit sandwiches while you-know-who had us underachieving in grand fashion. These guys have been living near the bottom and are now focused on making this their year with an awesome result. Man I will miss all of these seniors….

This is absolutely hilarious. My wife will laugh like hell to. Hopefully you can do this next weekend (Please do if things go according to plan. And make sure Michigan sees it too.).

Wisconsin would never lose two home games in a row

especially at night.

Man that was fun.

The spin is very typical…one of the announcers last night said something along the lines of “well I’d like to see this defense tested against a good offense”, what a stupid thing to say. Here is the thing, though, it doesn’t matter what all these idiots say. When it comes down to it this team just needs to win their games and things should turn out just fine.

Penn State Dominates a Down Big Ten...

Isn’t that what they said in 1994? I almost worry when we win too big…

by dontcallmescooter on Oct 12, 2008 9:56 AM EDT   0 recs

That's what they say anytime anybody other than OSU or scUM wins the Big Ten.

The Big Ten seems to feel that the conference is going to suffer a lack of exposure and ratings if it’s any other Big Ten school in a bowl game. But guess what?: we have more bowl wins than any other Big Ten school.

Also, don’t worry about winning too big. Just kick ass, and don’t bother to take names. If people want to say the Big Ten sucks because the Big Ten’s precious darlings in Columbus and Ann Arbor are down, then beat the living shit out of them. You don’t want a nailbiter against an inferior team; you want a

BLOWOUT!!!

by Ab4PSU on Oct 12, 2008 2:30 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

the sad facts are

most of these announcers love the SEC so much theyd like to have an illegitimate child with it. they feel unless michigan and those cave dwellers from columbus are playing undefeated at the end of the season, the big 10 is down. dare i say, we have a balanced conference with good NW, minne, Mich st. teams. i personally feel osu is a middle of the pack team this year and the only thing that scared me was the time of the game and the venue, which was somewhat alleviated tonight.

by kajpsu on Oct 12, 2008 11:03 AM EDT   0 recs

Unreal

What a feeling to wake up this morning and realize that we are now one of the best three teams in the country. This team is SO focused… and you have to hand it to JayPa for finally convincing his old man to move past the conservatism to the 21st century.

One thing that no one is really talking about: look at the difference to what we did in Camp Randall to what the Buckeyes did…. they needed a 4th quarter comeback; while we wrapped up the game in the 2nd quarter (DWill’s punt sealed it!).

Let’s put up 60 next week (David Jones said it best – 12 years’ worth of punishment all rolled into three hours next week)… and then roll into Columbus and SMACK the Bucks!

by Bstoner52 on Oct 12, 2008 12:02 PM EDT   0 recs

Great win!

Watching that game last night it struck me that Wisky had some pretty good talent on defense…they were still popping players in the 4th qtr even though they were down big…I mention this because we outright owned them (not pwned!!!)…

What’s particularly scary about this team is that they are getting better each week.

Go State!!!

by pennst92 on Oct 12, 2008 12:12 PM EDT   0 recs

Yup... Mauti pwned some poor bastard

Late in the game it was great to see him crack that kid. This team is running with a lot of fire and those kind of minutes bank nice dividends in the years to come

PSU ranked #3 in new AP Poll

I am pissed that we still aren’t getting the respect we deserve. NOT ONE single vote for #1.

I take no offense to being #3 with no #1 votes. Texas beating OU was definitely more impressive than us beating a 2 loss UW team.

Now, we win the next two, and I guarantee we’ll see some #1 votes coming our direction.

Ohio State

Doesn’t necessiarly have to shit the bed to lose at Michigan State this week. From what I’ve seen of both teams thus far, I think you can make a legitimate argument that Michigan State is better than them.
