The way the media is treating JoePa

Great win tonight, but one thing that kind of annoyed me is the Paterno injury sistuation.  Honestly, I am kind of disappointed the way the media is treating it.  It seems like they are assuming that he is no longer coaching the team just because he is up in the booth during the game.  I heard a few times the ESPN anouncers referred to Bradley as the coach during the Wisconsin game.  This is in addition to a few times over the last week I have seen the national media referred to Paterno "watching" the game from the booth as apposed to "coaching" from the booth.  My question is, "Do you think the leg injury had effected the way Paterno has coached this team?", and if not "do you think the national media is portraining this injury the way they should be?"

Look at these facts.

We are 7-0. We won 48-7. We will be at a minimum #3 in the country.

Does it really matter if Joe is “coaching” or “watching?” He had the headset off before half time. Have you ever saw a shot of him talking into the thing? The only thing they kept showing last week was the headset falling off his head and looking silly.

Lets be honest here. Bradley is running the show. You think Joe called down for that coaches review on Scirrotto’s alleged INT? You are getting a glimse of Joe sticking it to Spanier because when we go 10-2 or 11-1 or whatever and Joe retires, he is going to say to Spanier, how about that young buck Bradley to be head coach, he already has some experience the past few years and has done well. What is Spanier going to say? No, we are going to go get Shiano or Rich Rod or Golden???

No offense, but you lost a lot of credibility when you threw Rich Rod into the Golden and Schiano group. That said, while I haven’t really seen Paterno talking into the headset while he is in the booth, has anyone seen him talking into a headset on the sidelines over the last 10… 15… 20 years?

As an aside, has anyone heard ESPN refer to the fact that we haven’t won back to back Big 10 road games since 99. I can’t help but wonder what what they consider what happend to Illinois and MSU in 05.

2nd that

I would take a Paterno’s ashes in an urn in the coaches box over the awesome job Dick Rod and Schiano are doing. Staff looks great and confident. With a few minor disagreements I like what we are seeing.

Also, good question VV. That sounded too long a stretch when I heard it

I’m guessing they meant in consecutive weeks? Maybe?

John Madden told me 90% of the game was half-mental...

No headset on sideline

That is exactly my point! Joe isn’t exactly standing there (or sitting there) running the show so what does it matter what they say? He coaches during the week which is when you prep guys. Then you hire coordinators to make the play calls. He is doing what any good boss does, lets his people work.

As for the Rich Rod, I was just saying about a National search, which I think some of you will be surprised to find out that Spaniers potentail canidate list doesn’t exactly match our lists :-)

Do you have some info we don't

or is this just a hunch? I agree Spanier is going to try and “be his own man” and bring in who he wants. I just hope it doesn’t lead to a culture change.

Success without honor is like an unseasoned dish, it will fill you up but it won't taste good. - Joe V. Paterno
