Television: Michigan vs. Penn State

Another week, another great television experience.  According to gopsusports.com, "The contest will be televised by ESPN to a national audience with Sean McDonough, Chris Spielman and Rob Stone calling the action."  Sounds like a perfect day to break out my "Ann Arbor is a Whore" tee shirt and kick back at home.  Two weeks in a row with no television drama or coverage maps...it almost seems too good to be true.  Go State!

Some people may be scrambling to see the Ohio State game. And either Iowa or Indiana are going to be on the BTN.

TV

No one is struggling to see the tOSU — it’s a national game on ABC.

Unless it is a split telecast

Like Illinois, and the Ohio State game last year.

Except it's not a split telecast

That’s my point, the game against tOSU has already been designated as a national game. Everyone will get it on ABC, much like everyone got the tOSU-USC game earlier this year.

I guess you're right

Looking at the listings I don’t see any other 8 PM games on ABC. A couple weeks ago for the Illinois game they made everyone in Texas watch Nebraska-VA Tech. I ended up having to drop $21 for the Gameplan on that one.

You live in Texas?

El Paso for me

At least you live in a decent part of the state. I hate it out here, doesn’t even feel like I live in America anymore. But I signed on the dotted line so I have to go where the Army tells me. Just sucks that I’m not going to see a game in Beaver Stadium for a long time.

OSU/MSU

is a big game. It is nice to see OSU have a tough game before we come to town. It will also show if MSU is the real deal, or just hasn’t played anyone yet. I think they are a strong team if Hoyer can do his part.

who do we want to win that game?

I mean do we want OSU to win so it is a big game on the road. Or do we want MSU to win so it is a big game at the end of the season at home. Part of me wants to see MSU win just for that last game of the season going out on a high against a team that has beat OSU. What do you guys think?

by jetskijoe on Oct 15, 2008 12:53 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I think Michigan State.

That gives us the best chance to win the league if we get beat somewhere along the line.

Pondering what voters / BCS would like better

Think it may be better if MSU only has one loss when we close out our season against them or better if we play the one loss OSU next week?

If you can smile when things go wrong, you have someone in mind to blame.

Beating Ohio State in Columbus

Is big whether thay have one loss or two.

If Michigan State beats Ohio State it sets them up as a top ten team going forward.

We always joke about the land grant game, could you imagine how great it would be if that was for the Big Ten title and Ohio State and Michigan were just a cuople of also rans? That’s some irony baby.

I would love that...

It would also mean I am coming home a week early for thanksgiving so I can attend the game…I hope it comes down to that game for a National Championship shot and Big Ten title.

National Audience...

sounds great, except I need to know how easily I’ll be able to watch the game at the wedding I’m attending on Saturday.

That’s right, not only am I going to a wedding, I’m in the wedding. One of my best friends growing up. He’s an ND grad; they’re on a bye, but I nevertheless have no respect for this decision. And, oh yeah, someone offered me a ticket to the game this morning. Can’t take it, sorry, will be in Florida, acting like a dipshit in rented clothes. thanks.

I wouldn't trust old rooster me neither.

If he was really your friend

he would change the wedding date.

Also, his unmentioned bride sounds hot

This will come back to haunt him

since they’ll likely be celebrating an anniversary sometime down the road, and it likely won’t be on a BYE weekend.

My girlfriend has been trying to talk about marriage lately. I told her the only thing I’m going to discuss at this point is that it WON’T be in the fall, since I don’t want it to interfere with Penn State football, or to force guests to come during their favorite team’s game (plus any weekend travelling could interfere with pro football and there is always the chance of playoff baseball)

She tried to counter that she has always wanted a spring or a fall wedding, and that we could do it on a BYE weekend, I told her to better start looking at spring dates, since even if we do it on a BYE, there’s gonna be a fight sometime down the road for one of our anniversaries.

That's impressive forethought

re: the anniversary.

I try to keep my political views off this site, but my opinion of Barack Obama dropped significantly when I heard that his anniversary was in October. As you state, even if your team isn’t playing, it’s disrespectful to your guests to ask them to choose between the game and the wedding festivities by hosting a fall wedding.

I wouldn't trust old rooster me neither.

I got married during the Purdue game in 2005

There was a bar with a TV, I left every five minutes to check the score, and relayed the score to the DJ who announced the score to my friends who came.

I got several regrets and nice gifts from people who told me that they had a “prior engagement” that day. I didn’t blame them at all.

I feel your pain

I was at a wedding during the Michigan game in 2005. Yeah, THAT Michigan game. I spent 30 mins outside on the phone with a buddy who gave me the play by play of the final 5 mins of the game. After Manningham’s TD, I spiked my empty drink glass off the ground in disgust. Needless to say, my girlfriend wasn’t too pleased with me that night. Luckily she has grown to understand the madness that is Penn State football.

Also, my bro got married during the PSU @ ND game in ’06. I was getting score updates in the church via text message. At the sign of peace, I let all PSU fans in attendance know the score.

I'm hoping

you didn’t spike the wine chalice to the floor when you learned that final score.

Funny

I was at a Wedding during the 2005 Michigan game too. As the couple was up there exchanging vowes I was sitting in the back frantically updating the score on my cell phone. The damn thing sat on 20-25 PSU with :01 to go forever. When it finally came up 27-25 Michigan FINAL I just closed my cell phone and put it in my pocket. My wife was sitting next to me and could tell I was pissed. Yet she still had to ask, “Did they lose?” Why do women do this? Isn’t it obvious by the vein sticking out of my temple that they lost?

I sat through the rest of the ceremony with steam coming out of my ears. Then I went outside and kicked a bush to death. Feeling better I told myself I was going to blow it off and just go get drunk at the reception and have a good time. But my wife had to keep telling everyone I was upset because Penn State lost. So all everyone wanted to do was talk about the game to cheer me up and make me feel better.
