There is a strong rumor going around at PSU that Joe Paterno is announcing his retirement tomorrow and they are naming Tom Bradley the coach. Anyone have anything to match up with this? Also there is supposed to be a fly over.

A strong rumor
is still a rumor.
Also, why would JoePa decide to do it in the middle of a season where distractions are hard enough to avoid?
And what are the sources for this rumor? Anything more than “a friend heard it from a friend who read it on a message board that someone posted that they think it would be a perfect time to announce his retirement” type thing?
Anyway, seeing that I also don’t have any inside info, and my guess is good as anyone else’s, and this has nothing to do with whether or not he’ll actually retire after the season or not, but my rumor-senses say no about announcing it tomorrow.

same here
this comes from staff attached to the university. Now, i’m sure it would involve him retiring at the end of the season, however I would hope he would wait until after the bowl game. What motivation for the team. not that they need more than the 9 year streak.

He gets to name the replacement, and retire ahead of Bobby Bowden, all at once. In a way, it’s a brilliant move that totally checkmates Spanier’s national search plan.
This is not going to happen though.

Would be
I think all anyone ever wanted was for Joe to go out on top, to retire in a position that is fitting of one of the all time greatest coaches — not slink away after a few rocky seasons (this is undoubtedly going to happen to Bowden).
I have already told numerous people, that our players are playing for something this season and it’s uncanny. It’s not one thing you can put your finger on, well this might be it…

Not buying it
Even if Joe has made the decision and Bradley has been informed he will take over, why now? Why make an announcement like that just before the biggest game of the season?
Doesn’t make sense to me. On the plus side you will find out how credible your inside information is.

I think that guy
flew a transport plane, like a C-17 or something and was in the Air Force

Correct
Our guy flew the C-17. In fact if you click on the link Cairo provided that’s him in the picture associated with the article.
He still emails me every once in a while, but I haven’t heard from him for some time. Here is that story.
