We want the Siren! We want the Siren!
Anthony Fera commits to PSU!
It's not often that you see a kicker get 3 stars by the recruiting sites so it's safe to say that we got a good one in Fera! It doesn't hurt that he decommitted from THEM and committed to the good guys! Welcome aboard Mr. Fera! You're a part of the family now! I wish you all the best on and off the field!!
WE ARE!!

just think
if it doesn’t work out at kicker for him…he is 6’2’ 230…LB or DL could be in his future…Hey as long as he can keep a kick off in bounds he is good in my book..
PSU Softball
its hard to shank a free kick as bad as that

Yes.
Because of him I know where the ball is spotted if you hook a free kick OB. Never knew it before Saturday.
Simple
it is 30 yards from where the kick took place from; unless it goes out before covering the 30 yards, then it is a spot foul. The receiving team can also elect for a re-kick, but I have only ever seen that once and it was because it was the end of the half and they wanted another chance to run it back.
If you get a celebration penalty or something and get moved back to the 15 for the kick and it goes out of bounds, they get it on your 45!!!

No one sitting by us had any idea where the ball would be spotted – never saw a free kick get shanked before!!

From all reports Newsome had a GREAT visit
I think things are shaping up with him but we’re still making up ground(VaTech). I think Justin Brown will eventually commit to PSU but he’s going to make us wait until he goes through the entire recruiting process.
sounds like more than a great visit....

I like that we're getting commits
but this is one of the things that bugs me about college football recruiting: all the fair weather commits. I understand wanting to go to a team that can at least be mentioned in the competition for the national championship year in and year out, but something’s gotta be said about loyalty and sticking to your word, as well. I’m sure these guys are all good players, but I wonder if something can be said about the mental fortitude of top level recruits who keep flip flopping.
It at least shows some immaturity (what do you expect from 17-18 yr olds), but I wonder if there’s more of a tendency to break down under pressure (See: Anthony Morelli), since they are only used to success, and apparently don’t fully believe in themselves to bring success to wherever they go, and will bail on a team if it looks like they’re having some tough times (which is already apparent by their decommitment from a struggling team).

Fera
We are very very lucky to have Anthony Fera on our team for the next four years….
Kid has a pretty strong leg

mgoblog
is suffering a minor meltdown over this, although it seems to be a pile-on-the-author affair.
lol
A Michigan blogger calling for recruiting reforms. I bet this is the first year THAT’s ever happend. I don’t read mgoblog ALL that often, though I do find it to be one of the better college football blogs out there. Still, I wonder how often he’s called for recruiting reforms in past years, when just the name of Michigan has landed them top classes. Heck, just the name of Michigan is about the only thing that will get them a somewhat respectable class this year.

Reading comprehension
Do I get to make the reading comprehension joke now since Brian didn’t write that?
I actually noticed it was by MGoAndy
and not by Brian. Still a Michigan “blogger” or at the very least fan who wrote on a blo. I wasn’t quite sure what the “diaries” section they were talking about, since again, I don’t read mgoblog THAT often (mostly for the blogpoll extracurriculars which are on cbs sports now, and for occasional other interesting stories).

Diaries=Fanshots
I suppose you or I are bloggers in that context since we are writing stuff that shows up on a blog. Really, I was just kidding, tring to get you back for noticing my stupidity last week.
I realize that I’m horribly biased as a UM fan, but I think Mgoblog is second to none in terms of sportswriting on the internet. Part of that is I think Brian, while obviously a UM fan, takes a fairly objective view of most things, and is critical of UM coaches, players, fans, etc when it is warranted. BSD is similar in that regard, which is why I like coming here even though I am the enemy.
I agree that Mgoblog is excellent
I enjoy checking in from time to time. The format of the site has gotten more confusing over time, you have to link to different things to get the same content. Examples are his evals of the blogpoll and in game discusions. Otherwise it is outstanding.
I don't know, Mello Yello is pretty awful. What's the worst that could happen?
Yeah, it is a little wacky now
I generally only see the google cached version of the site these days. My work blocks access (it has “blog” in the URL) and I don’t use the computer at home much anymore (8 month old baby). So, the format I see is even worse, and I can only see what is on the main page anyway.
I agree about mgoblog
which is why I read them, even though they are the “enemy”. I even read them in weeks that we aren’t facing them. I guess my biggest “gripe” about it is that there are a lot of longwinded posts about things I don’t care about (small details about the Michigan program). Perhaps it is similar to you reading BSD, though :-D

Brian
His game analysis and handling of the Rodriguez affair have been outstanding, and at one point I was hoping for an all-out throwdown between him and the ‘Bama bloggers. But his recruiting coverage, especially lately with respect to decommits, has taken a pro-M bias that has seemed to blow up in his face regularly. But guessing the intentions of these kids is a crapshoot anyway, so it’s hard to fault him.

This was my favorite part:
"If you do not BLEED Maize and Blue, do not commit to Michigan. Do not commit to Michigan if you could just as easily go to OSU, MSU, ND, or PSU. I want someone who HATES OSU. I want someone who wants nothing more than to run out of that tunnel and touch the MGOBLUE banner in front of 110,000 screaming, maize and blue clad fans. "
Correction:
….and touch the MGOBLUE banner in front of 110,000 screaming golf-clapping, maize and blue clad fans. "
another correction
…and touch the MGOBLUE banner in front of 110,000 106,201 (1,081 less than the 107,282 cappacity Beaver Stadium) golf-clapping, corn and blue clad fans"

We're still getting $110K +
They are printing the same # of tickets, it seems. Just squeezing everyone in a little tighter. And the golf-clapping is starting to disappear in favor of actual noise and stuff. One benefit of this hellish season is the fair-weather fans/blue hairs are starting to leave the bandwagon.
lol, but according to wikipedia
the capacity of Michigan Stadium is 55,000,000,000 ;-) Gotta love wikipedia. I’m not even gonna bother trying to revert that, cuz it is amusing.

Two Words
Michael Shaw.
This MGOBlogger has a really short memory. In retrospect the Shaw decommit is not a big deal since there’s plenty of depth at tailback. But the way that Shaw approached it (or perhaps was instructed to approach it) was very shady. He switched his commit at the last minute, leaving PSU with zero options for filling the scholarship.
These early decommits aren’t that big of a deal. A kicker isn’t going to make or break their class, and they have a long time to fill the slot. Even if they have a few ‘stealth’ decommits on signing day, there’s nothing they can complain about.
What's up with not getting the siren?
Now we need two sirens because the basketball team picked up a 3star PG out of Houston!! We’re on a roll!!
WE ARE!!!
