It is the greatest Saturday in 2008

Good Morning Penn State fans today is the first day of the rest of ouir season. I ask you all to be confident just as we want the team to be confident. This game is ours and the Buckeyes will not take it from us. We Are!!!!

Watching the Big Ten network this morning, Glenn Mason, Jerry Dinardo, etc....

and they were comparing PSU and OSU and picking who has the advantage in different areas of the game, and they actually said that OSU had the advantage at Quarterback, Running Back, Offensive Line, Linebackers, Secondary and said it was a toss up at head coach.

Advantage at Quarterback…..are you kidding me? Offensive Line….what?

The haters are up early this morning.

by Lovethosefreakinnittanylions on Oct 25, 2008 8:46 AM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I saw that last night...

Unbelievable! Giving them the QB edge is pretty bad, but O-Line?! What?! We may have the best O-line in the nation, let alone the Big Ten. It’s all good though… we’ll change all that hate tonight…

by Bstoner52 on Oct 25, 2008 9:43 AM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Todd McShay

has talked twice this week about our O-Line being a weakness. I’m starting to wonder if he’s seen any of Penn State’s games…or looked at a stat sheet and seen Royster’s ypc. How do guys like him work for the “WWL?”

I can't think...

of another Quarterback I’d rather have leading the Lions in Columbus today. This will be a defining moment in Darryl Clark’s career at Penn State.

Coach Tressel has called for a "Scarlet Out" and "Scarlet Fever"?

My advise to them is to be careful…..a bull charges when he sees RED!

And, better be careful asking for Scarlet Fever, because you might just end up with a bad case of Laurenitis instead, which is the cousin of Jock Itch!!!!

by Lovethosefreakinnittanylions on Oct 25, 2008 9:20 AM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

It's also

a HUGE day for Derrick Williams. He has a real shot at achieving what he set out to do when he came to Penn State…He’s going to be up for this game. No doubt about it.

Yo I just thought of something....

Pryor is getting sacked alot to start off his career. If evans, maybin and co. can keep that trend going there can definitely be “TPS Report” posted. Mostly for the comedy but it could also chronicle the impact that each Terrelle Pryor Sack had.

I hope this comes off, it will be classic!

In '74

I lived in East Halls and had an 8 am Saturday (ugh) golf phys.ed class at Rec Hall. At 7:45 on the way across campus I’d pass Joe every home Game Day (he walked to the Beav) and would say “Hello, Coach”, and he’d say “Hey, how ya doin’?”. It was a huge kick for me even then.

So yeah – Joe and I have had at least six 1-on-1 personal conversations. We are tight.

OT: I made every golf class that year, for 2 reasons:
              1) I was always done throwing up by then, and
              2) I was assigned to help classmate Jennifer Shenk, as I’d been playing since age 6.

She made it well worth my hangover-plagued trudge across Parking Lot 80. And back.

I hope our boys were watching that, as the entire GameDay cast picked OSU. LOu Holtz and Mark May did too. 2/3 of the Big Ten Network said Buckeyes had this one.

I still laugh when I hear the ‘no respect’ talk coming out of OSU. How many times this season have we heard “is PSU for real” or “PSU needs to prove themselves” “we need to see more from PSU”

by millzners on Oct 25, 2008 12:23 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

The theme for the week I’ve noticed is Penn State is going to lose, if Penn State wins they may not make it into the NC game. You definitley don’t hear them say that about Texas or Alabama. Matter of fact, most keep mentioning a 1 loss team getting in. What gives?

by pslion on Oct 25, 2008 12:35 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Dude

The national perception of the Big Ten is horrible and has not gotten much better this year. We are fortunate at how bad the ACC has been. Going into the season a second BCS bid for the conference was far from a given. If we lose today, I’m wondering whether there is at least a chance we’re staring at the Capital One bowl. Especially since I totally agree with Herbstreit saying an 11-1 OSU has no chance of playing in the title game.

But it was cool seeing all those old mills and factories from the river level, and all those crazy different bridges too. Then turned around and went out to the Lake and opened er up. Was a cool way to be a tourist.

PSU O-line

I was watching one of Todd Mcshay’s videos about the game and he called our o-line decent. He said that they wouldn’t be able to protect Clark enough and that Clark would collapse under the pressure of his first road night game in a big stadium. What about the Wisc. game and the fact that the line has only let up something like 5 sacks all year? I really hate the media.

by Grapenapalm on Oct 25, 2008 4:06 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Well

That was a weird call- if you hit the pylon but never touch inbounds, it’s a touchdown catch? I’ll need to write that one down…

John Madden told me 90% of the game was half-mental...

by TheK-GunNeedsReloaded on Oct 25, 2008 4:17 PM EDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Yeah, WTF?

I’ve never seen that call before. It is Michigan, and the calls do tend to go their way. Three times PSU arguably had the ball in the end zone last week, and one was ruled incomplete after a foot down and two others were spotted on the 1 foot line.

If one foot down with the ball in your control until you hit the ground isn’t a touchdown, how is tapping the pylon with your foot a TD? I need to see the rulebook on that one.

by gcdyersb on Oct 25, 2008 4:22 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Pylon

I can’t vouch for the college rulebook, but in NFHS/high school rules the pylon is considered an extension of the field. It looked like a touchdown to me. The reactions of the commentators were great.

by gumbercules on Oct 25, 2008 4:28 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Yeah, but . . .

I thought that the pylon represented Vertical extension of the sideline in the endzone. For example, if the goal line is the x axis, they sideline is the y, and the pylon is the z. I can see the argument if the ball hits the pylon, but Minor’s foot was easily 15 inches out of bounds.

Also, did anyone see how scUM got the ball on that drive? The ground obviously caused the fumble by Hoyer. I knew Michigan got calls at home but two blatantly obvious calls like that have got to have D’antonio beside himself.

by psdeuce on Oct 25, 2008 4:37 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Whoops.

Rule 4, Section 2, Article 1.b. A player or an airborne player who touches a pylon is out of bounds.

Anyone else watch the college football live halftime report at half of the Texas game?

Epitome of the Big XII

Oklahoma State is down by four points with eight minutes to go. Texas is driving the ball and they have entered OSU territory. The Cowboys need a defensive stop.

But OSU coach Mike Gundy is away from the sideline sitting on the bench with a clipboard planning his next move on offense. His team is in the middle of the biggest defensive stand of the game and he’s still thinking offense.

i'm a wear t-shirt/jersey

and my tradition is to where the same colors as the team. It’s “blue” at home and “white” away. Which put me in a very big dilemna at the IL game. I have always believed that wearing “white” (as in the white-out games) is almost a show of support for the visiting team. I went along with wearing a white t-shirt that day, but went with a lot of blue as secondary colors. Blue sweats, blue ballcap. I even had a blue turtleneck on hand to wear underneath the t-shirt if it got cold later on.
