Around SBN: The Worst Team Ever Projected?

My thoughts on the game

Star-divide

Every team has tough games like this. These games really test the character of your team. We knew that the Spread HD would come against a defense that could stop it, the question was, could we gut it out enough to win. We stayed with the run game, the defense stopped OSU enough and got two huge TOs. One led to the go-ahead TD, the other iced the game. We hadn't had to win using defense all season and we had to this time and we won.

Now, its an off week then we go to Kinnick Stadium for another huge test with Iowa. Every week now is a huge test, teams will be gunning for us. We have to have our A games ready, our minds focused for the prize. The playoffs are just beginning for us. Time to keep it up boys.

WE ARE PENN STATE!!

I agree 100%

My one issue with the game was with the referee and the "referee" in particular. There were 5 to 6 plays in the game where our DE’s outright beat their tackles and literally received a two armed bear hug from behind. I understand that holding occurs regularly and it cannot be caught on every play. However, repeated holding in the open field right in front of the man responsible for calling nothing but holding and roughing the passer has to receive a penalty at some point. Seriously, calling it one out of four plays at least shows you are not condoning the behavior.
But…………..who cares, WE WON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

really?

there was holding that game? I never would have known. Especially on the one play where one of our DE’s had a straight line at Pryor, only to be tackled (from behind no less) by 2 of their OL (right in front of the ref!…though perhaps he was too busy staring longingly at Pryor’s butt). Now perhaps I didn’t see things too clearly from the uppder deck, but I don’t see how their OLmen could be laying on top of him in a way that they were if they didn’t tackle him from behind.

if you are engaged

from the front and they get pasted you like that, there is some good tolerance on the holding in the Big Ten. The replay offical did awesome as did the field and line judges on getting the in-bounds/out-of-bounds calls and clock rolling/stopping stuff right all night.

There was a lot of holding that went uncalled

both ways, sadly. At least it was even-ish…and I love when they just let ’em play.

John Madden told me 90% of the game was half-mental...

and that statement

is also true (and perhaps why some of their blatant holds got ignored…since they did pretty much the same to ours).

With that said, you gotta wonder how amazing both defenses actually played, if they were able to perform that well while basically being held the whole time

Did anyone notice

the great performance by defensive player of the year James Laurenaitis? He had to have had 30 or 40 tackles during the game…at least according to the OSU scorekeepers. It seemed like if he was within 5 yards of a tackle, his name would be flashed up on their big screen.

From the box score on gopsusports...

which you can find here: he had 2-10, with the 2 being unassisted & the 10 being assisted (or, I guess, he assisted).

"assisted"

in the same way that the piece of paper I taped to the outside of my house “assists” my walls in supporting the roof.

This just in...

I think he just had another unassisted tackle for a loss while causing and recovering a fumble. (Practices count, too yanno)

If you can smile when things go wrong, you have someone in mind to blame.
