Students "celebrate" win
There was another fanshot where the poster said there were "some pretty cool" celebrations happening downtown. I don't know. I read this and I think, what a bunch of morons. Don't they get it that doing stupid crap like this just makes their lives miserable in the long run? Dumb, dumb, dumb. I was a student in '90 when we beat #1 Notre Dame. Yes, a goal post from the practice field came down, but as far as I can recall, no reports of huge damage or anything stupid like this. The cops definitely did not have to use pepper spray. The students act like idiots and complain when the cops pull out the pepper spray. Be a little better behaved and it wouldn't happen, Penn State!

Watch the video. Unbelievable. Special mention must be made of the guy in the chicken suit.
I'm the one who said 'pretty decent'
and I stand by that. I hung around for a little while and the atmosphere was great. People were just happy to release, and slap high fives and shout ‘We Are’ etc. After a while, some people got bored and pushed over a street light. That’s when I left.
I used the word ‘decent’ to indicate the extent of the event, not in the sense of ‘cool’ that would indicate approval.
My personal take on the whole thing is that the property damage is regrettable. But it could have been a lot worse. I was told today that the police assessed damage around $10K. Honestly, that is very tame, considering the number of people around, and the number of cars, streetlights, storefronts that could have been smashed.
What that should tell you is that out of 5,000 people, a very small number were drunk and acting stupid. The rest of us were there to share our pride at being part of a special football season.

I'm glad to hear.....
that most of the students were just having a good time celebrating and enjoying the win. Isn’t it always the way – a few bad ones stand out and make everyone look bad (read: PSU football team). And for the recorcd, I have no problem w/ students boozing it up – it’s just the violence and damage I don’t understand…. Why are so many students today so agressive? Can’t they just eat, drink and be merry?
GO STATE!
$10K
10 thousand dollars is not a riot. 10 thousand dollars is vandalism. Honestly, 10 thousand dollars is petty vandalism.
It is very unfortunate that stuff like this has to happen, but this is something so overblown by the local media because it’s Centre County. Take the poor/dumb bastards that actually got a citation, and make them replant the bushes and do some community service work along those lines.
Or, the university can just tack on 25 cents to every student’s activity fund and write the borough a nice check. Problem solved!
As far as the students go… you got pepper sprayed. That’s hardly an abuse of power. It serves you right for hanging out in a crowd consisting of some drunken assholes.
good old Cedarbrook
some of that was definitely filmed from my old abode
"It was an attrition football game and you know we like that."
Update - from Today's Collegian
“To destroy property and that sort of stuff is really not something that ought to be identified with a celebration is the way I’d look at it,” Paterno said. “There’s no need to jump on cars and things like that.”
