Ahhh.....
I love the smell of Game Day in the morning. That, and good coffee. Mmmm.
Not to be a douche, but are there 2 kickers named Chris Summers? Brothers, maybe? Named liked George Foreman’s kids?
Where is everyone? There’s only 3:45:00 til kickoff!

YAAAAAAAAWNNN
Not used to this noon game stuff. I hope the team is awake! Remember last year’s “11am” start in Wisconsin? Morelli still had eye crusties on his first possession.
how dare you speak thy "M" name.....
It will be stricken from our vocabulary forever more.

Yeah that's odd
Not sure what the deal is with the kicker’s evil twin. I just pull these stats from our stat service. They seem to mess up a lot of stuff.

Dave Jones saying that JoePa will be in Pressbox today
…or to be fair and specific, that they are setting up a space for him in the Pressbox.
Heard it would be a ‘game time’ decision. Regardless, this team should beat Purdue by 342 points, I predict.

Personally
I think we need Ohio State to win. Let them work their way back into the top 10 so they look more impressive when we play. I would rather play one great team and one good team than just two good teams.

Pregame Updates
Donnie Collins is reporting from the Press Box. Sounds like a chilly day. Norwood is dressed for the game. Sounds like the local media wants a new quarterback. He also predicts the Black Out is going to suck.
Mike
Black Shoe Diaries
Norwood
Will Norwood play? Should he play? Or should we give him another week to rest his hammy?
My guess
is we don’t see him play. We should have plenty of weapons to beat Purdue.
Mike
Black Shoe Diaries
Zug or Brackett
Who gets the better chance to prove himself on the field? Zug’s been getting more PT than Brackett, right?
What about
Chaz Powell? I’d like to see him get some touches. Maybe the coaches are keeping him under wraps until Wisconsin.
Mike
Black Shoe Diaries
or Quarless?
Doesn’t it also open up the passing opportunities to Quarless? or Schuler?

Black Out
How is a Black Out supposed to make it seem like a night game environment when they only have one level of seating?
Breaks my heart
to see Joe in the booth. I guess we are probably looking at his last season.
I hope the boys win him NC #3 for his swan song.

Announcers
Sure, I am a homer, but these guys were (a) pretty stoked on the 3rd and 1 stop by Purdue; (2) high on Painter’s cadence (3) down on folks anointing PSU as a favorite (I agree, but still); and (4) pretty muted on Penn State’s offensive plays, at least in comparison to Purdue’s 1st downs.
Am I just overly sensitive?
For a neutral person to watch the game
they have to think Purdue can win.

As for the over-the-top to the 1, anyone catch the Eagles and Bears last week? Nothing like an over-the-top from the 4 to the 1. :)
I am concerned that
they seem to be playing very conservative. They have so many weapons on offense and other than a turnover problem the last few weeks the Spread HD has looked great.

The play-calling hasn't been that bad..
Bread and butter stuff.. We actually threw an out on 2nd and 1 on the first drive.. This looks like a typical sleepy noon game. I can’t really fault the execution so far. And right now Purdue’s offense is designed to get 30 yards and punt/miss a FG. They are draining the clock and shortening the game, our tackling has stunk too.
Tony Davis
Classy move by Davis to keep that kid up instead of dropping him into the benches
Damn that was nice.....Florida.........
just ran a play where Tebow appeared to be running an option with Harvin and instead shovel/shuttle passed the all inside to Brandon James for a TD.

based on purdue's games so far this season...
i expect us to blow the game away mid-late 3rd quarter
Disappointed
Why do they sound so disappointed that Clark just made something out of nothing?
I wouldn't call this a hard time..
This is exactly how Purdue has played us in the past and failed repeatedly. Purdue needs to score a lot to have a prayer in this game. Playing back and limiting them to 2 FG attempts in the 1st half is exactly what we should be doing.
We are using Williams too much..
Is Norwood out there for this game? I’d like to see Quarless get the ball.
Williams Williams Williams
I’d ride him all the way
what do u guys think...

I think we will be fine
I will miss them because they are exciting but I really like Clark this year
Run the ball for 300 yards a game..
And emphasize the TE, we’ll look more like an elite Wisconsin team.

Just win and move on.. I don’t even think this has been an ugly game for PSU, the defense has contained Painter, the offense has run the ball, protected the QB, and not turned it over.. It’s just a slow, ugly, clock munching game.
Right
And our average field position is probably around our 20. We’ve had to go the length of the field for our two scores.
I’m not worried. Purdue is working for every yard. We’ll get some big plays in the second half and blow this open. I predicted the first half would feature some back and forth, but we’ll wear them down in the second half.

What ever happened to the option? It seemed like a bread and butter under Robinson, but a last-page-of-the-playbook call with Clark. Is Royster not a good enough blocker for Clark to keep it? (I doubt it.)

We’ll never test it if we keep passing on first and second down. This would wear them down and open up the passing game to let us blow things open in the second half. The passing game hasn’t looked bad though. Maybe im just frustrated cus we should be up by a lot more. I think purdue layed KY jelly all over the field before the game. Why the hell are we slipping all over the place.

We need
to keep running the plays we’ll be using all year. Practice and repetition, baby.
I heard one announcer mention early that PSU had their short spikes on.
Bet they don’t now.

Griffin gets a guy hitting him at the knees 5 yards out of bounds.
I’d like to see more ejections for egregious late hits.
Then again
He’ll probably doing something insanely idiotic like sneak in some Mexican hasish from across the border and get the boot from BU as well.

what good did the punt do that netted 12 yards?
by Lovethosefreakinnittanylions on Oct 4, 2008 1:40 PM EDT up reply actions
Agreed
It makes no sense to punt from inside the 40 yard line. The risk/reward always favors going for it.

Time to lay down the hammer
And get a TD on this drive.

We are still wearing them down, though
This is how Notre Dame blew the game open last weekend. It’s apparent that Purdue’s D is just getting worn out on this drive as well, bodes well for us despite that sack.

It shouldn't get overturned
Evidence is inconclusive to overturn it. He got one foot down and dragged the toe of the other.

they used a to on that third down—certainly worked out
I wouldn't trust old rooster me neither.
Still don't know why they punted from the 32
a 49 yarder is within Kelly’s range.

but Royster needs to break that outside. He probably scores if he runs away from the defense instead of trying to make th einside cut.

We aren't a stinking turf team....
There is no excuse for our guys slipping like they are. They should have been prepared and brought multiple cleats.
Purdue doesn’t seem to have a problem slipping.

Is it just me
or does Purdue’s field really look like trash. Chunks here and there. Looks like Heinz or Gillette (before the fieldturf)
It's definitely the cleats
Why hasn’t our coaching staff told our players to put on longer cleats? They should’ve done that after the first several times we slipped in the 1st quarter. We’d be up by at least four scores if it weren’t for our guys slipping all over the place.
Let's Go State!
Kickoff
Nice coverage this week. Hopefully they have turned that around.

I cannot take these announcers.
Sure, if PU had a different QB, maybe it would be closer. And if PSU didn’t slip so much, it’d be a blowout.
Worst case scenario
Is they get the ball back with a few mins to go and get another garbage td to make the final score look like it was a close game
no, worst case scenario
Clark gets tackled out of bounds on top of devlin.

…what are these replay guys looking at? It was pretty clear that Royster got the 1st down, how can you not change the spot of that ball?

Even though they won and put up 400 yards of offense
I felt they played very conservative and will lose to Wisconsin if they play like that next week.
At least they are the first Bowl Eligible team!!!!
by Lovethosefreakinnittanylions on Oct 4, 2008 2:55 PM EDT reply actions
I want to see how Wisconsin does tonight
That will tell me a lot about the next 3 games
The loss to THEM last week had to take the wind out of their sails
We’ll see tonight what kind of heart they have
Keep it in perspective
PSU didn't show too much
Because they didn’t have to. I’m a-okay with the coaching staff not busting the playbook wide open, because they didn’t need to. Why show your playbook when you don’t need to? Save it for Wisconsin. And besides, the playcalling wasn’t actually that conservative today. It was quite a bit more open than I remember it being the last couple years. What was killing us today was cleats that weren’t long enough!
Let's Go State!
Seriously man
I was yelling at the TV watching that. There should have atleast been another one or two 1st downs and probably a touchdown that were sacrificed by slipping. Damn, that’s frustrating to watch.
Right now I think we can beat both
I think we would have a great shoot against OSU and Wisc. We will see but so far this game both teams look bad.
