Spurrier

Just called JoePa and Bowden figureheads. Sure, there’s a degree of truth to that, but Bowden is infinitely worse than JoePa. I guess it’s just the easiest misconception to come up with when talking about OMG LOL OLD COACHES!!

Maybe he shouldn’t have left Florida…

I heard that as well

but I think going by what I think his definition is (playing the calls on the field) he is pretty right. There’s a lot more to coaching (recruiting, administrating, gameplanning, etc) than just calling plays, but that is probably the most “recognizable” part, and neither JoePa nor Bowden really do that anymoe.

While I Don't Share.........

the Free Shoes University mentality that some of my PSU buddies do………I must say that let’s face facts……..Bowden has done very little over the last 4 years with a whole lot.

4 and 5 Star Recruits since 2003 for FSU – 97
4 and 5 Star Recurits since 2003 for PSU – 39

Bowl Record FSU 1 – 2
Bowl Record PSU 3 – 0

2007 GSR FSU 58
2007 GSR PSU 76

Just sayin. No big deal.

I forgot..........

Overall Record since 2005

FSU 29 19
PSU 39 9

The bowl records were from 2005 as well since I figured that gave each school a chance to get the recruits from 2003 into the mix.

What does a head coach do?

Has any ever actually thought about that? Bobby Bowden said it best, a head coach oversees the other coaches. If you want to get on them for “not calling plays” as people do, then why the need for an offensive or defensive coordinator?

Doesn’t mean Clark becomes benchwarmer for life, but like I said…just give him a series.

But we’ve now seen Clark play 3 poor games in a row. There was plenty of opportunity today to get Devlin some meaningful playing time, but it didn’t happen because We didn’t achieve separation until the 4th quarter.

Devlin handing off to Chaz Powell and throwing to James McDonald isn’t going to pay any dividends for us.

2. to stay sharp
3. he’s different from Clark, it makes teams prepare for both
4. it would help us win (remember Ohio State?)

Hey everybody...

I hate not having the BTN even if the camera ‘people’ are hobos… just got caught up by reading the thread so I can have the real skinny on what has been happening out there.

So how has Clark been doing? :)

It's all fun and games against a team like Indiana

But we’ve now seen Clark play 3 poor games in a row. There was plenty of opportunity today to get Devlin some meaningful playing time, but it didn’t happen because we didn’t achieve separation until the 4th quarter.

Devlin handing off to Chaz Powell and throwing to James McDonald isn’t going to pay any dividends for us.

Fuck them

I want to see these SEC/Big 12 teams take on one of us up North in blistering November Big Ten weather. If they can still run their hi-octane offenses and light us up, then they’ll be worthy of all the fellating from ESPN.

one of the better arguments

that you never see made on ESPN. Seeing the way the Big 10 offenses always slow down once the weather gets cold, it isn’t a big surprise that the big, traditiional winners and powerhouses are usually solid defenses and running teams

by The JuggerNitt on Nov 15, 2008 8:56 PM EST up reply actions

Absolutely

We won 33-7. I would hardly call that struggling. We saw the little mistakes, but the game was on the BTN so most voters aren’t even watching the game. Besides, you rarely drop for ugly wins unless you are in the top two or three.

by BSD on Nov 15, 2008 3:10 PM EST up reply actions

yes

Yeah, I’d say so. Most voters probably didn’t even watch this one and just will see the score. Iowa won, so that helps too. We won’t be moving up unless someone else loses, but we’re still in the top 10.

Winning by 4 over that tough Auburn team. UGA is a fringe Top 20 team, at best. There are only two very good/great teams in the SEC this year (UF and ’Bama), too bad the media is blind to this.

after the ND game due to the fact that we all see that Florida appears to be on another level at this point ?

I am a Penn State fan and a Steelers fan…….I hate the Gators more than I hate the Browns or the Cowboys……..but what they have on the field is ridiculous.

They are like the college Italians………..they have the girls, the academics, the weather, the football team, and the basketball team. Its nauseating.

Just got in, turned the game on, see they’re up 10-3 with about 9 min left in 2nd quarter. Go Trees (or Cardinals…you know…whatever)!!!

by The JuggerNitt on Nov 15, 2008 7:55 PM EST reply actions

2 things

1) Cards win, we play the other OSU in the Rose Bowl. That’s our BEST case scenario.

2) If USC loses this one, and I read one more article about how great their team is, I’m gonna puke.

by Mr. Rosewater on Nov 15, 2008 8:04 PM EST up reply actions

GO STANFORD AGAIN!!!

and I’m still hoping that FSU beats Florida, who beats Alabama (who also hopefully is beaten by Auburn). That would likely put is in the National Championship game (assuming they wouldn’t put 2 Big 12 teams in, and wouldn’t put a non-BCS team in). USC is actually the least likely loss, so them losing would be big.

by The JuggerNitt on Nov 15, 2008 8:07 PM EST up reply actions

I don't.

Do you really think we are going to get any respect of we beat Oregon State a 2nd time ?

We have to play the game. If the rest of the world thinks USC is the 2nd coming of Christ…….then we need to play and beat USC. Otherwise, we are just another half assed Big 10 team.

Do I really not get Vs. on DTV?

I can never find the channel on DirecTV, and I’m starting to think that I don’t actually get it.

Anyway, I’ve been in a car absolutely all day, so I missed the PSU game. Sounds like good luck on my part.

The BC-FSU game has sprung to life, and Alabama just scored a TD to take the lead back from Mississippi State. Could be a fun night, who knows.

by Run Up The Score on Nov 15, 2008 9:00 PM EST up reply actions

man I really want Alabama and USC to lose today

then we just need to hope for Florida to lose to FSU (or even to Alabama in the SEC champ game…but we might need Alabama to drop ANOTHER one…but maybe not) and that would basically put us back into the NC game (unless they want an all Big 12 rematch National Championship game, or they want Utah in it).

Of course we still need to beat MSU.

by The JuggerNitt on Nov 15, 2008 9:06 PM EST up reply actions

I dont like this

i Dont want to end up playing OSU in the Rose Bowl. We would get little respect for beating OSU in the rosebowl, but beating USC would turn some heads.

And this is interesting. Poor Joe.

Penn State coach Paterno may have surgery after regular season

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3704583

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — Penn State coach Joe Paterno may have hip replacement surgery following the regular season.

After the 34-7 win Saturday over Indiana, the 81-year-old coach said he would not be on the sidelines for next week’s season finale against No. 15 Michigan State. The No. 8 Nittany Lions can go to the Rose Bowl if they beat the Spartans.

“I’m probably going to have to get something done with this thing as soon as the Michigan State game is over, the next day probably,” Paterno said. “I’m probably going to get a hip replacement or something like that, I don’t know.”

Paterno’s contract runs out this season, and he and university president Graham Spanier have tabled talks about his future until after the season ends.

They also have said a man who has had his job a record 43 years doesn’t need something in writing to stay on the job.

Paterno brushed off a question that the next game might be his final one at Beaver Stadium.

“No, haven’t even thought about it,” Paterno said to a few laughs before hobbling away.

Paterno got hurt in August, two days before the season started after trying to demonstrate an onside kick in a typical end-of-the-week practice ritual.

He hasn’t been on the sideline since the Sept. 27 home win over Illinois. JoePa monitors practice from a golf cart and uses a cane to get around the stadium.

Defensive coordinator Tom Bradley said his boss never brings up the injury.

“We all worry about coach, but he gets mad at you if you worry,” Bradley said. “He wants you to stay focused on what you have to get done.”

since they’re obviously so fast and talented in that game against LSU.

Not one of those OMG ESS EEE CEE homers will even admit that they are getting their asses handed to them (at home) by the mighty Troy. btw… for those who don’t know, they are NOT a bad team. I would rather face the garbage teams we do (OrSt excluded) in our NC games as Troy fears no one and will play anywhere. Good program and I hope they keep giving it to LSU

On ESPN's Top 25 overview

Penn State 34, Indiana 7
It was over when… An angry group of Nittany Lions showed up to make amends for the loss to Iowa.
Gameball goes to… Daryll Clark. The Penn State QB passed for 240 yards and two touchdowns.
Stat of the game… 6. The Nittany Lions’ defense held Indiana to only six first downs.

Glad no one actually watched the game, and this is likely the way most of the voters will think about it. Had they actually watched it would probably have bee nmore like
It was over when… A struggling Penn State made key adjustments in halftime to finally overtake a weak Indiana team.
Gameball goes to… Deon Butler. This former walk-on is the new career receptions leader at Penn State…though you probably didn’t see it if you were watching the wonderful camerawork of the Big 10 Network
Stat of the game… Either 172, the number of carrer receptions by Deon Butler, or 3, the number of turnovers made by Daryll Clark, practically equalling the season turnover mark.

Nice work on the flipside

I was one of the masses that didn’t see the game but enjoyed reading Mike sticking up for DC and everyone killing the camerapeople while listening to the game on the webcast. The person who wrote that obviously didn’t watch the game and I was shocked to not see Butler’s name anywhere on ESPN mentioning his achievement.

Mike, Ruts, or Kevin:
Can you guys post something on the frontpage honoring Butler’s accomplishment? Good kid who really deserves a moment in the sun
