the sad part is, it’s 5:06am here in LA and i haven’t gotten off work yet…
so THAT's how the legendary paul bucci was able to start his immortal fanpost
on the company’s dime!

Just called JoePa and Bowden figureheads. Sure, there’s a degree of truth to that, but Bowden is infinitely worse than JoePa. I guess it’s just the easiest misconception to come up with when talking about OMG LOL OLD COACHES!!
Maybe he shouldn’t have left Florida…
"We heard all that talk all week about the SEC and their speed, but we knew personally that they weren't nearly as tough as us."
-Tony Hunt
I heard that as well
but I think going by what I think his definition is (playing the calls on the field) he is pretty right. There’s a lot more to coaching (recruiting, administrating, gameplanning, etc) than just calling plays, but that is probably the most “recognizable” part, and neither JoePa nor Bowden really do that anymoe.
by The JuggerNitt on Nov 15, 2008 11:07 AM EST up reply actions
I don't think you can say Bowden is infinitely worse after last week's press conference and the fact that Paterno is the head coach from the press box...
While I Don't Share.........
the Free Shoes University mentality that some of my PSU buddies do………I must say that let’s face facts……..Bowden has done very little over the last 4 years with a whole lot.
4 and 5 Star Recruits since 2003 for FSU – 97
4 and 5 Star Recurits since 2003 for PSU – 39
Bowl Record FSU 1 – 2
Bowl Record PSU 3 – 0
2007 GSR FSU 58
2007 GSR PSU 76
Just sayin. No big deal.
Eric Watters Atlanta, Ga.
I forgot..........
Overall Record since 2005
FSU 29 19
PSU 39 9
The bowl records were from 2005 as well since I figured that gave each school a chance to get the recruits from 2003 into the mix.
Eric Watters Atlanta, Ga.
What does a head coach do?
Has any ever actually thought about that? Bobby Bowden said it best, a head coach oversees the other coaches. If you want to get on them for “not calling plays” as people do, then why the need for an offensive or defensive coordinator?
Hoosiers, eh?

Oh, you mean the football team. Sorry.

it's a noon game
and it’s raining that doesn’t really surpise me
Just as a point of reference...
Illinois’ 2005 first drive looked very good and got a FG out of it. I think we remember how that one ended.
Not implying anything, just noting that it’s very early.
Man I would like to see new players in
lets get some underclassmen some playing time
Agreed
After the way Mauti and Gbadyu saved us against Michigan I was hoping to see more of them.

I'll never forget Tamba Hali
destroying their QB in that game. That was one of the rare moments I felt sorry for a kid on the other team.
Mike

Yes we are
I was really hoping for a blowout
nice pass rush there
Josh actully looked good
Hull
ALMOST got there on a blitz just now, forcing a throw-away. If he played for OSU he would’ve just been credited with 2 sacks and 3.5 TFL.

Wow #10 with a block
where was that last week
signs of life
I think I see some but I am not sure yet…
Clark still not sharp
That’s the second wide open receiver he’s missed this drive
Keep it in perspective
nice play call
I am happy with that playcall
doubtful
If we did not see Clark last year at the end of the season, it is doubtful we will see Devlin.
Rubin
Catches a lot of crap this year, but I think he’s been pretty solid.
And then Clark fumbles…time to bring in Devlin.

Did anyone else see the play clock...
on that interception? It sure looked like the one they showed on tv was at 0’s for a good second before the ball was snapped. There could be a difference in the onscreen clock, but still.
Onward to the Rose Bowl!!!!!

One good thing
Our performance today is taking a lot of the sting out of the Iowa loss. We don’t deserve to play for the national championship.

You are right. The play clock expired like five seconds before they snapped the ball.

Devlin........
this is the kind of game, in my opinion, that we should win by at least 2 TDs no matter who is under center. I would be rotating Devlin in with Clark. Nothing personal. Just business.
Eric Watters Atlanta, Ga.
Touchdown Indiana
Can we send them some sort of message telling them to zoom out? If there was a defender nearby I wouldn’t have been able to tell.
They just said that was Clark's first TD toss in 11 quarters
That’s almost 3 games

This is embarrassing
I’ve been a strong proponent all year of our guys, but maybe…just maybe…other teams are figuring us out, and we’re not quite as good as we all thought.
I hope I’m wrong.
"We heard all that talk all week about the SEC and their speed, but we knew personally that they weren't nearly as tough as us."

I disagree. We never come into a game with no game plan but a ridiculously stupid game plan, most definitely and almost always.
I prefer that

Keep it in perspective
spark?
BTN announcer just said PSU players on the sideline are looking for a spark. How about the Rose Bowl??? Wake up guys.!!!!
Devlin
I’ve been a Clark backer all year long, but seriously. 7 points against Indiana? Just put him in and see if anything get better. If it doesn’t, at least we tried to mix it up.
"We heard all that talk all week about the SEC and their speed, but we knew personally that they weren't nearly as tough as us."
-Tony Hunt
Now hold on
Clark seems to be getting things going. His last few passes have looked pretty good. Leave him in I say.
Mike

Shonn Greene
126 yards and it’s not even halftime. If that man isn’t on the Heisman short list, it’s a crime.
"We heard all that talk all week about the SEC and their speed, but we knew personally that they weren't nearly as tough as us."
-Tony Hunt
He's sitting on the sidelines sulking,
and no one can talk to him. So says the BTN sideline reporter.
Clark
If Clark is going to be your starter, you have to get his confidence up and get him back in form. Problem is, it really ain’t happening. I’d like to call for Devlin, but I’d be worried what it would do to our actual starter.
Clark
When the defense doesn’t play well, everyone clamors for the backups to get more time. Well, what about the offense?
I’m not saying Devlin is a cure-all, but he should see some time. At least a meaningful series or two to see if we get that spark. Doesn’t mean Clark will never play again, but well…we should just see if things get better.
"We heard all that talk all week about the SEC and their speed, but we knew personally that they weren't nearly as tough as us."
-Tony Hunt
Nice play calling
Why is it whenever we get a 2nd and short we just run up the middle for three yards? I see that as a free down. Play action and let’s take a shot deep.
Mike
Black Shoe Diaries
Clark is playing pretty good right now
IMO it’s the offensive line that needs to step it up.

Announcers
Boy, are they playing up IU as lovable losers or what?
Clark
Clark looks like he’s given up. I guess his tears are clouding his vision.
8 YARDS?!?!?
What the fuck is an 8-yard pass going to do when it’s 3rd and 28?
5 yard out
On 3rd and 26. Great play call.
Why not go downfield? We’ll be punting anyways. Long INT is just as good.
"We heard all that talk all week about the SEC and their speed, but we knew personally that they weren't nearly as tough as us."
-Tony Hunt
C'mon guys
Clark is not playing that bad. He had a rough start but he has settled down I think.
Mike
Black Shoe Diaries
Like I said
Give Devlin a series. See how he does. Maybe the rest of the offense will pick it up, who knows? You never know the psychological effects on the rest of the offense in such a situation.
Doesn’t mean Clark becomes benchwarmer for life, but like I said…just give him a series.
"We heard all that talk all week about the SEC and their speed, but we knew personally that they weren't nearly as tough as us."
-Tony Hunt
Lewis
Good, maybe he’s injured. I never thought I’d be hoping for injures against INDIANA.
Oh, I'm totally aware
I’m just getting frustrated with Lewis and his Superma-er, Tebow-like play today.
No field goals
A FG on this drive would be a failure.

a reluctant +1
just because i want so bad for Clark to be sharp.
Onward to the Rose Bowl!!!!!

I would like to see a change of QB in the 2nd 1/2
maybe just for a spark not saying clark isn’t playing bad but a spark would be nice.
Get Clark out of there
He is taking too long to throw. He can’t hold onto the ball. And he just doesn’t seem poised anymore. He is not in charge of this team right now. Terrible clock management on the final drive as well.
Hey Mike can we get another thread.
this one is getting slow
On a realted note...
I LOATHE the Big10 Network. This is the worst camera work I’ve ever seen in a game, and my TV screen has been locked on the same image of the 3rd & 5 play from the 14 for like ten minutes now.

Well I dont know if you know
But its raining a little hard. Wet balls tend to slip (thats what she said) and go a little high. And he missed him by inches.
Okay
This week rain, last week wind. Enough with the excuses. He was wide open and Clark just missed him. Another overthrow, it’s becoming a trend.
"We heard all that talk all week about the SEC and their speed, but we knew personally that they weren't nearly as tough as us."
-Tony Hunt
Im not going to argue that he overthrows guys
But this was just a little high. Maybe he expected norwood to break more toward the endzone and instead he cut it short. I can live with that kind of overthrow. Now when he sends it 5 feet over someone’s head on a swing pass, thats all on him.
It's all fun and games against Indiana
But we’ve now seen Clark play 3 poor games in a row. There was plenty of opportunity today to get Devlin some meaningful playing time, but it didn’t happen because We didn’t achieve separation until the 4th quarter.
Devlin handing off to Chaz Powell and throwing to James McDonald isn’t going to pay any dividends for us.

1) Clark knows he doesn’t have to stare down the receiver and go to his first option everytime right ?
2) How many times has he thrown to a wide open receiver ? I have counted once and that was the over throw.
3) Way to go for the throat on first down after turnover.
I don’t care how this turns out. This wasn’t impressive. This is a HORRIBLE Indiana team.

Our coaching staff is retarded
Devlin should’ve been in after Clark’s TD drive. Now Clark’s psyche is going to be down again. Not what we need going into MSU.

This is getting to be ridiculous
Clark should not be in this game. He should not still be needing to get his confidence back in the 4th quarter against Indiana.

That second fumble
was just a good play by the defenseman. Clark had both arms wrapped around the ball, he just knocked it out.
why have a QB controversy in a game like this.
We need clark to be good next week. Even if Devlin comes in and does great then it kills the team.
I don't buy that for one second
We need to have Devlin ready and capable to take over just in case. The coaches need to stop being so wishy-washy about emotions. This why Morelli was never benched last year when he should’ve been picking splinters out of his ass a long time ago.

We’re up 20 points in the 4th. Get the backup some reps.

I dont know if 20
is enough to be clearly garbage time. 27 with minutes to go probably is.
Onward to the Rose Bowl!!!!!
Traped in the SF Bay area.....nothing like kickoff at 9 am.
If Clark plays like this next week
You better believe we’ll be down 2-3 TD’s. We’re lucky this is Indiana.
If he’s not getting the job done, I want to know that Devlin can.

Is Devlin injured or in the doghouse?
It’s almost like they don’t want to use him
Keep it in perspective
he's warming up

Yup
Handing off to Green, Beachum or Suhey, no doubt.

I love how everyone is getting down on clark
Look at the score. I know he didn’t play a great game but this is better then what I expected the score to be. I expected it to be a very close game. Ind always plays us hard.
It's not just this game
It’s the past three games.
Don’t confuse me for a Devlin proponent, I’ve been on Clark’s bandwagon all year long. But he hasn’t played great lately, and has shown terrible ball security today. This type of play will get us killed against quality teams.

Devlin needs to play
1. to get experience
2. to stay sharp
3. he’s different from Clark, it makes teams prepare for both
4. it would help us win (remember Ohio State?)
Keep it in perspective
drunken hobos
that play would have been alot better if i had been able to see more than the 5 feet of space around d-wills body. cameremen still suck

Haven’t heard that name as much as I thought I would this year.

Hey everybody...
I hate not having the BTN even if the camera ‘people’ are hobos… just got caught up by reading the thread so I can have the real skinny on what has been happening out there.
So how has Clark been doing? :)

purdue down 5 to iowa
56 seconds left and about 70 yards to go
Agreed.
What’s he doing in there? He’s been playing horrible. Put in Clark!

It's all fun and games against a team like Indiana
But we’ve now seen Clark play 3 poor games in a row. There was plenty of opportunity today to get Devlin some meaningful playing time, but it didn’t happen because we didn’t achieve separation until the 4th quarter.
Devlin handing off to Chaz Powell and throwing to James McDonald isn’t going to pay any dividends for us.

Fuck them
I want to see these SEC/Big 12 teams take on one of us up North in blistering November Big Ten weather. If they can still run their hi-octane offenses and light us up, then they’ll be worthy of all the fellating from ESPN.

one of the better arguments
that you never see made on ESPN. Seeing the way the Big 10 offenses always slow down once the weather gets cold, it isn’t a big surprise that the big, traditiional winners and powerhouses are usually solid defenses and running teams
by The JuggerNitt on Nov 15, 2008 8:56 PM EST up reply actions
Absolutely
We won 33-7. I would hardly call that struggling. We saw the little mistakes, but the game was on the BTN so most voters aren’t even watching the game. Besides, you rarely drop for ugly wins unless you are in the top two or three.
Mike
Black Shoe Diaries
yes
Yeah, I’d say so. Most voters probably didn’t even watch this one and just will see the score. Iowa won, so that helps too. We won’t be moving up unless someone else loses, but we’re still in the top 10.

Boy how about "mighty" Georgia?
Winning by 4 over that tough Auburn team. UGA is a fringe Top 20 team, at best. There are only two very good/great teams in the SEC this year (UF and ’Bama), too bad the media is blind to this.

I was laughing a lot at that
still not sure if the refs or TV crew messed that up, though (did Navy really use up their 3 TOs prior to that, or did ABC just mistakenly think so.
Also loved how Navy recovered 2 onsides kicks, both with free gifts of 15 yard penalties, so they got to kcik on a shorter field, too

Is The Silence..........
after the ND game due to the fact that we all see that Florida appears to be on another level at this point ?
I am a Penn State fan and a Steelers fan…….I hate the Gators more than I hate the Browns or the Cowboys……..but what they have on the field is ridiculous.
They are like the college Italians………..they have the girls, the academics, the weather, the football team, and the basketball team. Its nauseating.
Eric Watters Atlanta, Ga.
I would like to see Florida handle central PA weather in November
They’d probably still be awesome – I’d just like to see it happen.
GO STANFORD!!!!
Just got in, turned the game on, see they’re up 10-3 with about 9 min left in 2nd quarter. Go Trees (or Cardinals…you know…whatever)!!!
2 things
1) Cards win, we play the other OSU in the Rose Bowl. That’s our BEST case scenario.
2) If USC loses this one, and I read one more article about how great their team is, I’m gonna puke.

GO STANFORD AGAIN!!!
and I’m still hoping that FSU beats Florida, who beats Alabama (who also hopefully is beaten by Auburn). That would likely put is in the National Championship game (assuming they wouldn’t put 2 Big 12 teams in, and wouldn’t put a non-BCS team in). USC is actually the least likely loss, so them losing would be big.
by The JuggerNitt on Nov 15, 2008 8:07 PM EST up reply actions
I don't.
Do you really think we are going to get any respect of we beat Oregon State a 2nd time ?
We have to play the game. If the rest of the world thinks USC is the 2nd coming of Christ…….then we need to play and beat USC. Otherwise, we are just another half assed Big 10 team.
Eric Watters Atlanta, Ga.
Do I really not get Vs. on DTV?
I can never find the channel on DirecTV, and I’m starting to think that I don’t actually get it.
Anyway, I’ve been in a car absolutely all day, so I missed the PSU game. Sounds like good luck on my part.
The BC-FSU game has sprung to life, and Alabama just scored a TD to take the lead back from Mississippi State. Could be a fun night, who knows.
by Run Up The Score on Nov 15, 2008 9:00 PM EST up reply actions
man I really want Alabama and USC to lose today
then we just need to hope for Florida to lose to FSU (or even to Alabama in the SEC champ game…but we might need Alabama to drop ANOTHER one…but maybe not) and that would basically put us back into the NC game (unless they want an all Big 12 rematch National Championship game, or they want Utah in it).
Of course we still need to beat MSU.
by The JuggerNitt on Nov 15, 2008 9:06 PM EST up reply actions
I dont like this
i Dont want to end up playing OSU in the Rose Bowl. We would get little respect for beating OSU in the rosebowl, but beating USC would turn some heads.
And this is interesting. Poor Joe.
Penn State coach Paterno may have surgery after regular season
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3704583
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — Penn State coach Joe Paterno may have hip replacement surgery following the regular season.
After the 34-7 win Saturday over Indiana, the 81-year-old coach said he would not be on the sidelines for next week’s season finale against No. 15 Michigan State. The No. 8 Nittany Lions can go to the Rose Bowl if they beat the Spartans.
“I’m probably going to have to get something done with this thing as soon as the Michigan State game is over, the next day probably,” Paterno said. “I’m probably going to get a hip replacement or something like that, I don’t know.”
Paterno’s contract runs out this season, and he and university president Graham Spanier have tabled talks about his future until after the season ends.
They also have said a man who has had his job a record 43 years doesn’t need something in writing to stay on the job.
Paterno brushed off a question that the next game might be his final one at Beaver Stadium.
“No, haven’t even thought about it,” Paterno said to a few laughs before hobbling away.
Paterno got hurt in August, two days before the season started after trying to demonstrate an onside kick in a typical end-of-the-week practice ritual.
He hasn’t been on the sideline since the Sept. 27 home win over Illinois. JoePa monitors practice from a golf cart and uses a cane to get around the stadium.
Defensive coordinator Tom Bradley said his boss never brings up the injury.
“We all worry about coach, but he gets mad at you if you worry,” Bradley said. “He wants you to stay focused on what you have to get done.”

I know, right?
Not one of those OMG ESS EEE CEE homers will even admit that they are getting their asses handed to them (at home) by the mighty Troy. btw… for those who don’t know, they are NOT a bad team. I would rather face the garbage teams we do (OrSt excluded) in our NC games as Troy fears no one and will play anywhere. Good program and I hope they keep giving it to LSU

On ESPN's Top 25 overview
Penn State 34, Indiana 7
It was over when… An angry group of Nittany Lions showed up to make amends for the loss to Iowa.
Gameball goes to… Daryll Clark. The Penn State QB passed for 240 yards and two touchdowns.
Stat of the game… 6. The Nittany Lions’ defense held Indiana to only six first downs.
Glad no one actually watched the game, and this is likely the way most of the voters will think about it. Had they actually watched it would probably have bee nmore like
It was over when… A struggling Penn State made key adjustments in halftime to finally overtake a weak Indiana team.
Gameball goes to… Deon Butler. This former walk-on is the new career receptions leader at Penn State…though you probably didn’t see it if you were watching the wonderful camerawork of the Big 10 Network
Stat of the game… Either 172, the number of carrer receptions by Deon Butler, or 3, the number of turnovers made by Daryll Clark, practically equalling the season turnover mark.
Nice work on the flipside
I was one of the masses that didn’t see the game but enjoyed reading Mike sticking up for DC and everyone killing the camerapeople while listening to the game on the webcast. The person who wrote that obviously didn’t watch the game and I was shocked to not see Butler’s name anywhere on ESPN mentioning his achievement.
Mike, Ruts, or Kevin:
Can you guys post something on the frontpage honoring Butler’s accomplishment? Good kid who really deserves a moment in the sun
