Our last "sexy" bowl game?
It looks more and more likely that PSU and Oregon State will meet again for the Rose Bowl, which if that happens, I'll forever think of PSU as cursed into picking the short dull stick.
Sorry, I'm looking ahead again. BUT, it had me thinking:
What was our last "sexy" bowl game?
2005 Florida St? That's just off the top my head, but I don't recall them being at all highly ranked. It was just the two Grandpas (or "figureheads" as the "Old Ball Coach" called them) duking it out and chasing the all time win record that made the headlines.
No offense to the Beavs, of course. I truly think they could beat us if we meet again.

FSU
I considered it a pretty sexy game, even before it went to multiple OTs.
JoePa vs. Bowden!
Of course, living down here in Florida it made it even better for me.
by The Mess on Nov 18, 2008 8:01 AM EST 0 recs
It ended up a good game,
but all of us were disappointed to be playing FSU going in. They were barely ranked, and it was a lose / lose sitch for us. If we win, so what. If we lose, we suck.
Plus, FSU had nothing to lose, and we had…… well…..more.
The only positive was beating Bowden, and burnishing Joe’s ridiculous bowl record.

07 Outback
Considering the whole SEC-Big 10 argument, I thought this was pretty ‘sexy’.

A&M in the Alamo
Not sexy. But I agree the ‘07 Outback and ’06 Orange were very sexy bowls. But 7-4 FSU wasn’t a very sexy opponent that year.

i think
the OB would’ve been sexier if VaTech wouldn’t have worn their “oops i crapped my pants” to the ACC championship game. Im going to have to go with the Outback Bowl, UT came in there with their “holier than thou” approach and got smashed in the mouth

ah.
it was almost like they were afraid to tackle me.
God bless Tony Hunt. It was fitting that he kept his mouth shut for 4 years, and the one chance he got, he took FULL advantage of it.

Besides Hunt's pounding them,
and Davis’ TD fumble recovery and sprint, it was Scirrotto just completely PAVING that receiver that got us leaping off the couch, punching the air and yelling “LET’S SEE THAT AGAIN!”.
Great moment of TV.

Better question than you think
If you go back over the last 15-20 years, there aren’t many. The 1995 Rose Bowl was a bit of a disappointment because we knew we were about to get hosed. The 2006 Orange was a bit of a letdown because FSU had so many losses (good game, of course). There was a Fiesta Bowl (1997) against a pretty average Texas team.
I don’t know, maybe the ’93 Fiesta Bowl against Tennessee? Am I that jaded?

What constitutes a "sexy" bowl game
What are we looking for? Just a highly ranked opponent? with it not mattering a win or a loss? Any game but against an SEC or Big 12 school? a win?
I think any BCS match up is a "sexy game, because as we saw with FSU, even if a team has 4 losses, they step up their game.
by MrBrianPSU on Nov 18, 2008 10:11 AM EST 0 recs
What bothered me
was that no one took that win seriously. And they really shouldn’t have, it was maybe the 4th toughest game we had that year.
It was nice knowing that Paterno would gain on Bowden, though, and beating him straight up also helps create some kind of divide between them. I probably take this rivalry between the two too serious.
As for “sexy”, I understand the question completely and don’t really have a good answer. I think for it to be an attractive game in needs to be a now-known-as BCS bowl, and there has only been two since pre-Big Ten play. PSU v USC would be sexy to me, PSU v Or St would be more like that chick in the nut commercial. God I will be mad if that happens.

Still a long road ahead for Oregon State
They have to win at Arizona and at Oregon. They’re three point underdogs on Saturday in Tucson.
I wouldn't trust old rooster me neither.

Blame the Orange Bowl on the ACC
That conference has been continuously crappy for a while. Never any clear front runner and their conference champions seem weak. I thought VTech and the Marcus Vick Choir Boys would win the conference (they had a decent record), but they blew it and we ended up with FSU instead.
My cousin goes to VTech and I was really hoping for a Beamer/Paterno Bowl for the ultimate in special teams and defense…(exciting , right?)

I have to keep reminding myself
That it was in fact Va Tech that was ranked #1 by the BCS computer(s?) at the end of the regular season last year.

The last sexy bowl
The Johnson & Johnson K-Y Jelly Bowl…man there were a lot of fumbles in that one. The cheerleaders were definitely hot, though.
What? That bowl game only existed in my mind to help me through 2000, 2001, 2003, and 2004? Psh.

Why does it matter for "others" to take our bowl wins or regular wins seriously
I don’t know about some of you, but I get tired of hearing the talk of “reporters have no love”, SEC doesn’t respect us. Its beginning to sound like a high school, which i work in. If we take care of our business that we can control, then we will be rewarded in some fashion. That is all we can worry about. There is no point in worrying about the other things.
And if other schools or reporters don’t take us serious, why don’t they can Tim Curley or G-Span up and schedule a game. I am sure something could be worked out to replace a “Eastern Illinois” with USC, Texas, Florida, etc. on the schedule. We did it this year. Arkansas State was originally in place of the Oregon State game, something came up, so we welcomed the Pac 10 team to Happy Valley.

I agree
My sense of pride for Penn State football has little to do with whatever respect we receive or don’t receive from “others.”
You could get the whole crew from Gameday and a bunch of other jokers all to say, with a straight face, that Penn State stinks and that whatever bowl game we go to isn’t “sexy.” And that winning the Big Ten is meaningless.
I really, really don’t care. Why others do is beyond me.
I wouldn't trust old rooster me neither.

and for the eleventybrazillianth time, I love it
on a semi-related note:
Bush is receiving the president his daily briefing.
It concludes with: “Yesterday, 3 Brazilian soldiers were killed.”
“OH NO!” the President exclaims. “That’s terrible!”
His staff sits stunned at this display of emotion, nervously watching as the President sits, head in hands.
Finally, the President looks up and asks, “How many is a brazillion?”
