I call BS
Even in the slight chance that Paterno is going to announce his retirement at/after the game on Sat (I don’t buy that he’ll retire at all; I think he’ll be the coach in 2009 and beyond), there’s no that I’d believe some random annonymous internet poster on it. Basically, that’s just hacks trying to make their message board “name” by making a prediction they have no idea about and making it seem like they have some insider connection.
If there really was some big to-do going on and there was inside information to be had, some legit media type would have gotten it by now and run away with the story. We haven’t heard anything because there’s nothing to be reported.
I call BS too
That’s not Joe’s style. In the middle of a game for the Big Ten championship he’s going to be on the field announcing his retirement instead of addressing his players and thinking of adjustments? He’s going to drop a distraction like that on his team just to grab the spotlight for himself? No way.

The rumor
Is based on the fact that the Blue Band will not be playing at halftime. Ummm weather issues? I know I’ve been to a few games in the past where the Blue Band hasn’t taken the field before, after or at halftime because of the weather. Thats about the only legitmate reason I can think of that the band wouldn’t be playing. On the other side of the coin, I can’t imagine Joe announcing retirement anytime but during the offseason, whether it be this year or the next, etc.
I was in the Blue Band
and the band doesn’t do a halftime show when the field is wet. All the stationary pivots would tear up the field. Has anyone ever looked at the IM field where the band pratices? It looks like graph paper.
However, a halftime performance never got cancelled in advance. If the weather was bad we didn’t know if we would go until right before the game at the earliest.

And then he's going to eat pop rocks, drink coke and blow up?
That is the stupidest rumor I ever have heard. What has Joe ever done to suggest that he would take time out of coaching to make a public announcement?
