Correct me if I'm wrong but, I believe this the first time there has been a game played at Beaver Stadium that was for something. I know all games played mean something. There have been memorable games Nebraska, Ohio State 2005, games against Pitt, Notre Dame, LJ 2000 yards, etc.. But has Penn State ever played a game at Beaver Stadium to win a Big Ten Title? The last Big Ten Title Penn State played for was at Michigan State in 2005. before that 1994. There was not a league title to play for prior to that. I am hoping with the title on the line, this goes down as one of the greatest game atmospheres ever at Beaver Stadium! Cold or not this team deserves a record crowd, loud, racous, ass kicking crowd. What do you say? Let's Go State!!!!!

Hell yeah

I can’t wait…I think the atmosphere is going to be awesome.

I also think Sparty will be well represented this weekend in Happy Valley. I work with ton of MSU grads and 20+ of them all making the trip to State College (fortunately they don’t have tickets). This should be an obvious one, but don’t sell your tickets to MSU fans this weekend!!!

Just off the hip

I think the MSU game in ‘94 was at home, but I’m not sure what the Big Ten standings were that year or if we had it clinched by that time.

by blogue20 on Nov 18, 2008 9:21 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

Nevermind

Ohio State had two losses in conference in ’94 and they finished alone in 2nd. We were clinched by then.

by blogue20 on Nov 18, 2008 9:32 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Good

proper use of the term CLINCH! I HATE it when I hear people and announcers say things like TeamXYZ Clinched the Western Conference Finals or the Divisional Series or any other playoff series. You can only clinch things when there are more games to be played!!!! You clinch playoff spots, division titles, things like that.

###END CRAZY RANT HERE###

Onward to the Rose Bowl!!!!!
Traped in the SF Bay area.....nothing like kickoff at 9 am.

Stupid Question...

I went out and bought some silk roses for the game — do I have to turn in my man card?

by dontcallmescooter on Nov 18, 2008 11:57 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

No. . . I was gonna buy real roses

Silk ones are a much better idea. . .where do you get those?

by The IC Lion on Nov 19, 2008 9:04 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Michaels

I got mine at Michael’s – $0.99 a piece.

by dontcallmescooter on Nov 19, 2008 9:49 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Ok stop it! Stop it right there!

Real men don’t go out buying roses to take to football games. That’s just wrong.

Now if we were going to the Poulan Weed Eater Independence Bowl it would be perfectly acceptable to bring a weed eater to the game.

by BSD on Nov 19, 2008 10:14 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

weed eater?

Seriously, how many Evans/Koroma jokes are you guys going to set up for me this week?!!?!?

More Evans/Koroma jokes, please!

Good call, I'm jacked for this game.

I’m doing my best to pump up other students as well. I’m worried that people will be turned off by the cold and the fact that they could go home before the game because classes are over on Friday.

Let's Go State

by rmcmillen50 on Nov 19, 2008 12:30 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

Any student who goes has tickets and goes home early, or complains that it is too cold, shouldn’t call themselves a Penn Stater. This truly is the most meaningful game in a long time at Beaver Stadium. Don’t sell your ticket to anyone wearing anything green.

Throw down some alcohol, grab a winter hat, and grow a pair. You can go home on Sunday. I promise it will still be there. Back in my day, we didn’t have this week-long break crap that the kids have today. Hell, I remember classes where we had quizzes on Tuesday afternoon just to prevent people from taking off early… I would have much rather been held hostage by a football game!

by shadowfax on Nov 19, 2008 10:29 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I think it's funny

that while a number of students are heading home for the extended break, there are a TON of alumni who are just revving up to get into that stadium this weekend.

(BTW – most meaningful game since an October weekend in 2005….)

by IcersGuy on Nov 19, 2008 10:39 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

ooops

I wasn’t even really thinking…but my nice warm winter jacket is green. Guess that’s being left at home. I suppose that just means I’ll have to go shirtless and painted white (and/or blue).

Also, I had teachers schedule friggin Wed AM tests/quizzes/mandatory attendance, since we only had half days on that Wed.

How could anyone even think about going home early to hang with mom and dad instead of stay up on what might be one of the biggest games/party weekends at Penn State in a while.

by The JuggerNitt on Nov 19, 2008 2:54 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

actually

I’ll probably do what I did for the Iowa game

wear 3 pairs of socks, 3 pairs of pants, and I think 4 long sleeved T’s, 2 short sleeved T’s, a hoodie, and a windbreaker

by The JuggerNitt on Nov 19, 2008 8:41 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Are you going to the game..

or on a spacewalk? Dear lord, man… how does one take a leak wearing all of that?

by TheMightyErik on Nov 20, 2008 2:41 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

lol

technically 1 pair of pants (and shirt) were long underwear.

the other were pajama bottoms that seemed like they’d stay warm.

I was surprised at how mobile I actually was during the game. I thought the layers would constrict me, but I guess I had enough loose clothing to put on the top layers that it wasn’t noticeable

Dude... this is what I pictured the JNitt as in that configuration

I can’t put my arms down!!!

I too am worried

It’s no secret that enthusiasm goes down in the cold and the wet. Maybe the student section was still jacked up last week (once it filled up) but from my seat in the north endzone upper section, last weekend was a pretty miserable atmosphere. That’s just going to happen when it’s cold and wet. I’m hoping because this week’s game is at 3:30, not noon, and hopefully no rain this week, It could still be a better game atmosphere against MSU even if it’s 4,000 degrees below zero.

by NewJackCity on Nov 19, 2008 10:42 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I think you forgot the main reason(s) the enthusiasm was down last week

1) we just lost to Iowa the week before
2) the game was against Indiana. Even if we didn’t lose to Iowa the week before, the environment would have been less than stellar for the Indana game…in the cold…in the rain.

by The JuggerNitt on Nov 19, 2008 2:56 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Lots of reasons

Yeah, any game against Indiana is going to be a little less electric than other matchups (like this week’s MSU). The slow start in the first half also took a lot of fans out of the action early (and again, noon kickoff took people out of it). That all being said, I’m optimistic that Saturday will have a great crowd and get us that home field advantage.

I think the start time factor

outweighs the weather factor.

a 3:30 crowd in the cold will still be rowdier than a noon crowd on a sunny day.

8pm games could be played in a windy freezing rain storm and the crowd would still be wilder than a noon crowd.

Don't be wussies

buy some long johns and if you are a real weenie, some of those things that keep your hands and feet warm. I’ll be there, warm or cold, snow or rain.

Wow

called out wussies and weenies in the same post. Nice work. Your Man Creds remain in tact.

Not a man

I am a chick, but my daddy raised me right. Only a football loving dad would give his 8 year old daughter blackberry brandy (just little sips, he was not an idiot) at games to keep her warm. I miss my Dad, and his flask,

by letsgopsu on Nov 21, 2008 1:07 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Fired up....

I can’t wait for Saturday. You are right this should be a crazy crowd.

Another thing to keep in mind, this could be JoePa’s last game at Beaver Stadium.

I am unable to attend the game….but wouldn’t it be cool if everyone started a “One More Year” chant at the end of the game….student section…get it done!?!?!?!?!?!

WE ARE.......PENN STATE!

I don’t even know who you are talking about. That doesn’t sound like a real person at all. (end of conversation on the subject)

Wow

That is the ugliest most beautiful and impressive trophy I’ve ever seen.

Seriously, who the hell designed that stupid thing?

looks like something I would have made in woodshop. I really sucked in woodshop… you have no idea

A former MSU coach.

Seriously. George Perles was the MSU coach in the ‘80s and early ’90s and came up with the only trophy I’ve seen with den shelves.

This is my thought for a trophy – the Abe Lincoln Land Grant Trophy:

NEW AND IMPROVED

I have saved a picture on my PC which is much better. It’s the same picture, but the Former Defensive Tackle Who Shall Not Be Named is no longer in the picture. Unfortunately, I can’t figure out a way to post it.

by ReadingRambler on Nov 19, 2008 11:02 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

This Trophy

needs to be replaced with a chunk of sod. I think that would be pretty interesting. Get it? “Land” grant…

by whiteoutonly on Nov 19, 2008 12:08 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

How about this?

“On this day, in the year of our Lord 1865, I, General Ulysses S. Grant, present to the victor of the foot-ball game between The Farmers High School and the Agricultural College of the State of Michigan, this roll of fine Kentucky Bluegrass. I hence forth christen this the ‘Land-Grant Trophy’ and decree that every time these natural rivals take to the foot-ball field, this lush carpet of greenery shall serve as the yearly spoils. Now, gentlemen, without further ado, let us commence this scheduled skirmish.”

by shadowfax on Nov 19, 2008 1:03 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I think Evans just got something to play for

“fine Kentuck Bluegrass”. Evans will be playing his butt off for that. Boy will he be disappointed. shhhhhhh.

Dear god!

We’re burning through these jokes this week!

Keep your Fight Club, I see a Half Baked/How High combo on the horizon…

Evans/Koroma would like it.......

this is a cross between Kentucky Bluegrass, Featherbed Bent, ah, mixed with Northern California Sinsemilla……

best thing about this is, you can play 60 minutes of football on it and go home and get stoned with a bejeezus belt…
