BCS Rules
I can't seem to find the information anywhere online, including the BCS' official website, so does anyone know the rule regarding a team not winning its conference and still playing for the NC? Can USC really play for the NC if it doesn't even win its own conference? I can see the other required events happening in order to move us up to #2, but I can't really see USC losing again this year. Granted stranger things have happened, but that one seems to be the most unlikely to occur.

There is no rule…it’s permitted and has happened.

Nebraska in the January 2002 game
It was 2nd in the Big XII North but made the BCS title game after a series of upsets.
If it’s going to happen again, I’d bet the chances of it occurring this year are high with USC and the Big XII South 2nd place team in the background.

USC
would be co-champions anyways. Oregon State just wins the tie-breaker for the Rose Bowl.

Go ND and UCLA?
UCLA is my homer team out here but after watching them all year and the wonderful showing by the ND “Dying Irish” every week I can’t really see USC tripping along the way. Even though I have no love for them, I really think they are a helluva lot better than the OU and Neb teams that lucked into that spot and I will take them over any SEC team should they play one

The rule
The #1 and #2 team in the final BCS standings before the bowls play for the National Championship.
Not that hard.

correction
I thought it was “The #1 and #2 team in the final BCS SEC standings” but with a Notre Dame/Big East type rule that allows for either the Big 12 champ (or highest BCS standings team) or USC to secure one of the slots if they meet certain requirements ;-)

And don't forget subule 2.1.33.1.a
“No team, undefeated or not, from a lesser conference may even be mentioned in BCS title game scenarios (that means you BSU, Utah, Hawaii, etc)”

Yeah, I dunno how I'd feel
if we did wind up going to the NC game ahead of those undefeated non-BCS schools. I mean I’ll take it, but I’ll feel a little guilty in doing it.

I really think that BSU
has one of the best coaching staffs in the country and I am blown away by the effort they get out of those kids who are generally on nobody’s recruiting radar. Great program and I tip my hat to all of those teams for winning with what they are given

I almost feel bad for them this year
since they’ll probably get snubbed in favor of Utah (because Utah has wins over some ranked and BCS teams), but from what I’ve seen of Boise State, their wins have been much more convincing.
