I Hate The BCS!!
I guess with the BCS, hating it is a given. But this week sure takes the cake! I just don't see when you're #6 in all of the human polls and still end up #8 in the BCS. Frankly, although I think most will disagree, we should be ahead of USC. I think we all have to do a lot of praying, plus make different deals with the devil as far as rooting interests are concerned.
I feel bad, but we have to root for Okie State, Florida State, perhaps Florida in two weeks, Texas A&M, Missouri, Notre Dame or even UCLA. I hope that's not too much to ask!!

I haven't seen the new standings anwhere, yet
you sure you aren’t looking at last week’s BCS?

It is this weeks.
Here it is. I also hate the BCS, they now have Texas Tech above us after getting blown out of the water by a team that played some defense. The entire thing is completely arbitrary. If the point is to pick the best 2 teams in the country it will never get it done. One of the problems with using the records in college football is that every team plays so much better at home. How would we have done on a neutral field against Iowa, or TT on a neutral field against OK. The home field advantage is great, but the teams should be given the chance to play in a playoff at neutral sites. You will know who the best team is then.
Also, I actually feel bad for UTAH and Boise State, they are playing the best they can and have no chance at the MNC game. They are supposed to be in the same league as PSU or any of the teams above them, but in reality they aren’t.
We just needed a couple players, a couple people to buy in to the fact and we were able to do it. --A.Q. Shipley

If the point is to pick the best 2 teams in the country nothing will get it done. Not even a playoff. There just isn’t enough connectivity in college football to have any chance at figuring out who the best two teams are given only 13 games.
If you want to figure out who the best 2 teams in the country are, don’t whine about the BCS. Complain about the fact that games played against Division IAA schools count towards bowl eligibility (and in the BCS at all). Complain about the fact that certain conferences (the Big Ten and the MAC, for instance) play something like a third of their out-of-conference games against each other.
Those are two simple changes that could be made, that wouldn’t cause a financial implosion, and would have a real, tangible effect on helping to determine who the best teams are.

sounds reasonable to me ;-)

Yes, they do
Go look it up.
They used to count a maximum of 1 every 4 years. That restriction was removed last year.

Florida wasn’t penalized for the Citadel like USC was for beating UW earlier this year..

Amen
Once again Penn State is being kept in the back room by the good ol boys. There isn’t another major conference team that exists that would be and have been treated as bad as Penn State. 1994 we get screwed, 2005 we get matched up against 8-4 Florida State, and now we are 11-1 and are ranked behind a team that got killed. I am very proud of Penn State and Joe Paterno and what Penn State has always stood for. Coach Paterno worked hard to make Penn State what it is today. The Grand Experiment is costing us again. We are being controlled by those who have always controlled college football. Get your hands on one of Paterno’s biographies. Joe is being punished for standing up for what he believes in and has spoken up for. I wouldn’t trade what Penn State stands for but in my opinion it is why we are 8th in the BCS. And will get the short end of the stick in a fair matchup. (again)

Interesting notes...
Computers love the Big XII – Texas, Oklahoma, TTech are 2-3-4 respectively. It’s also the reason TTech is behind us in the two human, but ahead of us in the overall BCS.
Also interesting to see that the win over a ranked MSU team, combo’ed with an idle week for them, has allowed us to jump USC in the computers. Will be interesting to see how games against two weaker teams will effect USC with the computers for the next couple of weeks.
Computers like Utah (#5, not far behind OU and TTech), humans not completely sold – Harris still has them behind TTech by the slimmest of margins. Fox Mindless Talkers mentioned that Utah was ranked #2 by one of the computers (not in the one’s currently updated thus far).

Computers love the Big XII – Texas, Oklahoma, TTech are 2-3-4 respectively.
Because in the Big 12, those three teams have only lost to each other. Other than that, they’re unbeaten teams – so there’s no ceiling to how high those three teams collectively can rise.
The Big 12 is the only conference like that: in the SEC, Alabama’s unbeaten, but Florida lost to Ole MIss. In the PAC-10, USC lost to Oregon State, but Oregon State lost to Stanford. Obviously, Penn State lost to Iowa. And of course, the Big East and ACC are a mess.
So it’s not really that the statistical rankings like the Big 12 more than any other. It’s that the Big 12 is the only conference where the top teams are unpinned.

What sucks the most is
if all the upsets happen that we would like for the NC Utah will still be ahead of us because of the computers unless the voters start putting 2-loss teams ahead of them

I have come to the conclusion
that the Rose Bowl is all we can be happy for as it seems no matter what happens above us we will be right behind the same slate of teams. When I saw TT still ahead of us after the viking rape they had just endured I threw my hands up and started to look forward to Pasadena. See you guys and gals there…

well, we can be happy for that
but we can also root for the outside chance we sneak in (still _possible_) or we can just root for there to be 7 1-loss teams (plus the undefeated non-BCS team(s)) and say “hey guys, thanks for the BCS where you guys guess which 2 of those are the best…thank god we couldn’t decide this on the field”

see you there...
The thing about going to hell is that I think I will know more people there. The problem is we may be forced to watch Laurinitis highlights, Mich’05, Iowa’08, and other moments of torture on a loop using BTN footage and commentary to the sound of the USC or ND bands while being forced to drink non-alcoholic beer served with british food…
