The article does make some good points
Recruiting gurus say Weis recruits well because, for years, players had stars added in front of their names because Notre Dame was recruiting them.
I swear recruiting websites don’t do any work themselves, and just rely on who is interested in whom, and makes up stars based on that

I just don't buy it
I just don’t buy that recruiting is the limitation at Notre Dame. USC doesn’t continually succeed because they have low admission standards. They succeed because they have succeeded, and thus have high prestige. They also succeed because they have fantastic facilities – NFL-level – and so they can actually do things with the talent they get.
Low admission standards are just a convenient excuse. Notre Dame’s problem is that people kindof realize that Notre Dame’s football program isn’t that great. Really, how many people are there that Notre Dame can’t recruit that would be a top-level player? Not that many. One guy is not going to make or break the team.
I’m also not that sure that Weis is in any way capable of developing kids. Coaching kids who have already developed, sure. But developing kids is a totally different skill.

How does this explain PSU?
More academic all-americans than any other school, consistently in the top 10 of football player graduation rates, and 11-1 going to the Rose Bowl.
I just don’t buy ND’s excuses. The problem, plain and simple, is Charlie Weis can’t coach college kids.

OH Really???????????????
“…how many of Notre Dame’s other recent recruits would start for a perennial top-10 program? The Georgias, LSUs and Penn States sign five game-changers every year. Notre Dame, fishing from a much smaller pond, can’t match that depth.”
- Nice to know that someone considers us a perennial top 10 program.
- Are we signing 5 game changers a year?
- Is Notre Dame’s pond smaller? (…before or after Charlie jumped in?)

The pond
Well, if Charlie jumped in, there’s no more water in the pond, so is it even still considered a pond?

It would be just like
if he jumped on a dry piece of land, a large lifeless depression.

What are 3 words to describe Notre Dame football?
