65-38 Ducks Win
Go USC, beat Uckla

I'm fine with this

Although I would have liked to see USC not even win their own conference, I’m sure this is good for us. After all, no one was going to punish USC for losing to a cupcake, they’re “the best team in the country”. It’s really encouraging to here that Sanchez threw two (2) interceptions against NOTRE DAME.

So until then: Mr. Sanchez, meet Project Mayhem, Lavarro, and the Penn State Defense, they’re dying to get to know you

Just to point out again

USC at 11-1 would have won their conference — even if the beavers had won out — because they would have been co-champions. It’s merely that Oregon State would have won the tie-breaker for the Rose Bowl/BCS berth.

true

However, we still consider ourselves to be B10 champs even though technically we’re co-champs, you still are losing out on the privileges of the champion by being the co-champ with the head-to-head loss

UCLA

Doesn’t USC technically have to beat UCLA before they’re declared PAC-10 Champs? I have very little doubt that they will win, but if they lost, both USC and OSU would be 7-2 in the PAC-10, with OSU having beaten USC head to head.

If USC loses

it is a 3 way tie between USC, OSU and OU with OSU getting the Rose Bowl trip.

Pac 10 Tie Breakers are confusing

From Pac-10.org

(1) When three or more teams are tied in Conference play, if one has defeated all others, it shall be the Rose Bowl representative. If that is not the case, a comparison of the tied teams’ records against the other tied teams shall be made and the team having the best record against the other tied teams shall be the Rose Bowl representative. If two or more teams are still tied after this comparison, the appropriate two-team or multiple-team tie-breaking procedures shall be repeated among those teams still under consideration.

(2) If more than two teams are still tied after the process above is completed, each remaining tied team’s record against the team occupying the highest position in the final regular season standings shall be compared, with the procedure continuing down through the standings until one team gains an advantage.

So, as far as I can tell, if USC loses to UCLA the teams would meet the requirements of 1 and have to go to 2 for the tie breaker. I think that means their record against Cal would eliminate Oregon who lost to Cal, OrSU and USC beat Cal, so then Oregon State would go to the Rose Bowl.

Of coruse, I could be reading that wrong. If anyone has a better read on it let me know.

UCLA sucks...

my 2nd favorite (homer team) but they have no shot. I watched em last night and that QB Craft is awful. USC will be them quite badly , IMHO

I refuse to join any club that would have me as a member

by TheMightyErik on Nov 30, 2008 12:06 AM EST up reply actions   0 recs

You have to wonder though

It’s a rivalry game, so anything can happen. A pretty crappy UCLA team beat them in 2006 as I recall.

Plus, USC isn’t really thrilled about playing in the Rose Bowl again. They’ve played a ton of Rose Bowls in recent years. Plus, it’s kind of like a home game for them. Now if they lose to UCLA, they might fall to the Fiesta Bowl and play Texas. You think maybe they want a rematch for 2005? MIght USC throw the UCLA game to get it?

by BSD on Nov 30, 2008 10:31 AM EST reply actions   0 recs

Only problem...

They would need to stay BCS eligible and with 2 losses (a late one to a crappy team) it would be hard for the bowls to justify taking USC over OSU even though USC beat them head to head. Not saying it wouldn’t happen, but that would have USC losing to two unranked teams and OSU losing to two top ten teams. Honestly, while I think USC would be a good game, I also wouldn’t mind it if USC fell into the title game and PSU ends up playing an SEC or Big 12 team in the Rose (USC v. Florida would be a great football game). I don’t think any of the other Pac-10 teams would be BCS eligible so the Rose would just pick in order. I know USC is a media darling but getting a shot at either of those two conferences would be equally as satisfying and eliminate the home field advantage that we have now fallen into in both of our BCS births.

We are not normal. We are legends.

PSU vs. USC

has 1986 good guys vs. the bad guys written all over it, sans the national championship implications

USC

Should be a great game, although it’s basically a home guy for the trojans.

I loved when we played them in the 90’s, Todd Marinovich was awesome.

I also remember our 94 team killing them in Happy Valley. I hope our younger/faster LBs are ready to play, USC got some stud RB’s…we need to be faster

If USC loses to UCLA

There would be a 3 way tie (all 7-2) between Oregon, Oregon State, and USC
So the first tie breaker (after head to head, who everyone beat everyone in this sense) would be how the teams fared against the NEXT best team in the Pac10 (in this case, Cal)
Cal beat Oregon, lost to Oregon State and USC, knocking UO out of the picture
So then it goes back to head to head, which OSU beat USC, so Oregon State would get the nod

All this being said, I don’t think any Oregon State fan wants the Rose Bowl anymore after last night. That was the most embarrassing disappointment of a game ever.

USC vs. PSU

A win against the Trojans would completely put the dark years in the past, no? It was the disgusting loss to USC in the 2000 season opener that kicked it all off.

JoePa presser this week?

I’d like to hear what he thinks of the likely matchup with SC and what the players are thinking.

I also hope he’s starting to get mobile again.

Don't you think

They should make Galen or Bradley or Both available for the weekly press conferences if Joe is unable to do one? If the football program isn’t obligated to have weekly pressers I have no idea why Joe does them in the first place…
