Bednarik Voting
ESPN has a page where you can vote for the Bednarik Award along with other awards. Apparently, the polls will count towards the official tally. Go vote for Project Mayhem, who is trailing Laurenitis by 2% right now. There aren't any other Penn State players up for any other awards, so PSU needs this one.
Let's have a Penn State winner for the fourth year in a row.

Think about this
Mayhem is down by 2%. There are only 20,000 votes so far. So he’s down by less than 400 votes.
BSD gets over 3000 hits/day. We could sway this thing if everyone goes and votes.

To be fair.
Laurenitis gets credit for 1.5 votes for every 1 vote actually cast.

and also
for any vote cast for anyone he’s ever stood next to (including any players on opposing teams, or even someone he just happened to pass on the street once).

It's not by ip address. They use cookies.
If you have more than one browser installed on your machine, you can vote once on each browser. You can also use a different logon if you have that on your machine. You could probably also just delete the appropriate cookie file from system to vote again, but could lose some other personalization on their site. I just voted four times.

121 total tackles, of which, 75 (or about 62) are assisted. I repeat, 75 ARE ASSISTED. Maybe is behind by about 8 now…

Maybin down to 3rd place
I just invited everyone in my friends list to a facebook group so hopefully get some votes flowing.
Right now
Laringitis 38.9 % 22,997 votes
Maualuga 31.2% 18,467 votes
Maybin 29.7% 17,558 votes
teach me how to delete a cookie(yeah im definately computer illiterate)…..I am good for several hundred votes if i know how to vote again. I can’t even stand to think about Lauren getting the Bednarik…it makes me sick to my stomach.

This will let you vote multiple times, but I'm not sure they will all be counted
When I tried this, I noticed that the vote total listed at the bottom of the popup didn’t change from one time to the next, but when I went from FireFox to IE and back to FF, the total for the popup from FF was lower than the total for IE. So I don’t know what that means. Anyway, here are the steps to allow yourself to vote multiple times. I tried these & they work on my machine, but your milage may vary & I take no responsibility for what happens on your machine when you do this.
FireFox: From the Tools menu, select Options. Select the Privacy tab. Click on the Show Cookies button. Expand the item for go.com. Select the item for “POLL377”. Click the Remove Cookie button. (Be sure not to hit the button which says something like remove all cookies.) Click Close. Click OK. You should probably exit FireFox & restart it, but I’m not positive you need to do it.
Internet Explorer: Exit all instances of IE. (You probably need to exit anything that runs an IE subprocess like Outlook or Word.) In your favorite file manager, like Windows Explorer, go to the documents and settings directory for your login ID. Most likely this is “C:\Documents and Settings\{LoginID}” where {LoginID} is replaced by your login ID. Go to the “Cookies” subdirectory. Find a file called “{LoginID}@go1.txt” where {LoginID} is replaced by your login ID & the digit “1” might be “2” or something. Edit that file with your favorite text editor, like NotePad. The sections are separated by asterisks ("*"). Find a section that starts with “POLL377” and highlight from that line up to and including the next line with just an asterisk. Delete the highlighted lines, save and exit. Restart IE.

come on!!
I voted yesterday, but can’t vote today, and Aaron Maybin is now in last place, behind Ray Maualuga. Watching that guy play linebacker reminds me of when I pretend to throw the tennis ball to my dog.
by jimbo2psu on Dec 2, 2008 2:48 PM EST 1 recs
Let me get this straight
Maualuga has all of 68 tackles on the season from the LB position and he’s up for the best defensive player of the year???
by psuquinn on Dec 9, 2008 1:05 PM EST 0 recs
Well
He does have the entire west coast vote to himself. And probably most of the South. I can’t imagine many people in SEC and ACC land have heard of Project Mayhem. Likewise, I doubt any of them have any respect for Laurinaitis.

Other awards
FWIW, Maybin is also up for the Hendricks Award (best DE) so this isn’t the only possible award left for PSU. Oh, plus Paterno being a apossibility for coach of the year.
by Laaaaazzz on Dec 11, 2008 1:11 PM EST 0 recs
I stand corrected
I see that it’s already been announced that Orakpo has won the Hendricks (which I expected to happen, but I didn’t think it was official yet). It’s interesting to note that Orakpo isn’t even a finalist for the Bednarik Award despite pretty much dominating other similar awards — he’s won the Nagurski, Lombardi and Hendricks trophies already.

I don't think Maybin wins.
I’m just impressed he’s a finalist.
I would imagine there’’s some degree of blowback to be expected after 3 consecutive Bednariks being awarded to the same football program. It’s a testament to Maybin’s talent that he’s on the list.
Or maybe there’s no semblance of defense being played anywhere else outside of PSU, USC, O$U, and Iowa.
by Cairo on Dec 11, 2008 3:00 PM EST 0 recs
Or maybe it’s a testament to the Philadelphia-based Maxwell Club as being biased towards PSU?

and im fine with that.

Really....I personally would have preferred laura win....
Let’s not forget that the Big 10 has a bad image nationwide……we need to do as much to change that as possible. Laura winning the Bednarick would not have been a bad thing and actually would have been in the best interest of the conference. Personally I dont see how you give that award to a linebacker who only amassed 73 stops on the year and plays in possibly the most lopsided FBS conference. PSU needs to take care of business with USC using its D to create field position (No F*n bend-dont-break bradly….freakin USC will be marching all over the field on us if you go that route!) and likewise OSU needs to play tough defense to beat Texas! Yes it is the best interest of the Lions and the conference for OSU to pull the upset. It is time for Tressel to get his sh*t together and have his team ready to play!
I thought only safeties played 15 yards off the ball?
by pic15 on Dec 12, 2008 11:40 AM EST 0 recs
i would rather
have a talented linebacker in another conference with the award than an overrated pilejumper.
i see your point; i just think laura is a horrible misrepresentation of the LB prowess of the big ten conference.
