Laura Nitis will give you a concussion
I just read on SI (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/football/ncaa/11/05/pennst.clark.ap/index.html) that everyone's favorite OSU LB has now been credited with giving Clark his concussion. Is there anything that this guy CN'T do? If he doesn't win a bunch of post-season awards, there is no justice.
Also, the article states that Clark was pretty messed up (didn't remember several minutes of the game, acted irrational, etc), so Devlin best be ready. But thank God we won't be playing Ms. Nitis again this season.

He's right
JL put the hit on Clark. Came in head down and hit him with the crown of the helmet. I paid particular attention to it when I rewatched the game. Of course someone else already beat him to the ball carrier and it was another case of him swooping in to get an assist ten yards down field.

when I rewatched
I think JL was actually the third man on the scened, and Clark was already basically down. Obviously merits lowering his head and plowing in straight on.

Yeah, I noticed that during the game.
Clark was on his way down before taking a hefty shot from Nitis. I thought it was more of a body-on-head scenario, I didn’t see the crown-of-the-helmet shot. That’s real nasty if that’s the case.

Bob Flounders
I watched that little video he and Dave Jones do after the game for Penn Live. He said he talked to AQ, who held up 2 fingers to Clark. Clark waved and smiled and said “Hello!”.

Geez
That’s a little excessive isn’t it? I mean, I think he’s overrated, but I don’t see the need to be that vitriolic. Frankly, the deeper we go into this season the more disappointed I become with our fan base’s behavior.
When a fine gentleman like Peter Bean from Burnt Orange Nation is getting profanity laced hate mail it’s time to step back and look at ourselves. (Not saying you were responsible for this, millzner)

Well said....
from someone who occasionally indulges in “fan” behavior after one too many shots of Jameson. I think its important to remember though, despite the gloss we like to throw on our program’s image that at its heart, football occupies the same space that gladiatorial contests, bear-baitings, ordeals by combat and that bizarre Afghan polo of antiquity involving the decapitated heads of the tribes’ enemies used to occupy. All the allusions and hyperbolic references to combat that are tossed around as easily as the rock in a Wishbone Sooners team doesn’t help either. I think the level of vitriol is proportional to the amount “Penn State hate” being thrown by the media and punditry. Some people are just sick and tired of being sick and tired. To paraphrase Chris Rock : “not saying I’d do it (even if I occasionally do) but I understand”.

although upon reconsideration...
if we could conduct ourselves with the focus, humility and understated (but nevertheless obvious) confidence that our team has displayed this year, i think we all would be in a better place

I get worked up when someone knocks our QB out of the game — even if it’s a clean shot — and the jury is still out on that.
I feel really (honestly) bad when an opposing player gets knocked out — and cheap shots really resonate with me (seeing the Jerome Hayes incident in person, for example, still burns me up).
Part of success with honor is bottling up a lot of angst and redirecting it. I completely agree with your sentiments though, about fan behavior in the wake of this success after having mucked around in mediocrity for 10 years.

Have there been other incidents besides the Burnt Orange Nation thing??
I haven’t really seen anything on this site (or nothing I can remember right now, at least) that I would think is over the top fan behavior. To me, this site hasn’t been any worse than the in-person ribbing between me and my OSU, Tennessee, Rutgers, Nebraska, Michigan and ND alum co-workers and friends: making fun of the over-rated (JL), the sad (UM, Rutgers), claiming our team will be victorious even when we know they won’t (did my UM friends really think they would win this year?) and defending PSU during this anti-State media onslaught.
And just like at the games and tailgates, PSU fans on this site should tell other posters when they’ve crossed the line.

Clark dropped the ball immediately
after being hit by JL. but its not a fumble cause the play was over.
He was obviously down and ol’ pilejumper probably picked up an assist for delivering a cheap shot late hit to give or QB a concussion.
I’d say that deserves just a tad of vitriol.

and with respect to the burnt orange nation column
I thought it was a good writeup and I think by neither you or he being completely convincing proved the fact that there isn’t enough information to really say either way. This is why polls exist, because there isn’t enough information to say definitively.

Yeah
I kind of felt blind sided by his post. I was just noting my observations from watching several Big XII games this season. He turned around and bombarded me with statistics. I wish they kept statistics for missed tackles and blown coverages because I think the Big Ten would blow the Big XII out of the water.

that was definitely the thing lacking in that argument
and while I agree with his assessment that their offenses being better make their defenses look worse than they really are, while the Big 10 has worse offenses, so the defenses look better, it isn’t quite that simple. Granted my views are biased, from a) being a Penn State fan, and b) only watching about 4 or 5 Big XII games, but the one thing that stood out most to me was the difference in degree of form, preparedness, and coachedness (I can’t think of a good word or way to describe this…basically their defense would be out of position often, and would make arm tackles instead of body tackles, and just a lot of mistakes like that).
You can say their offenses are the best ever if you want, but a Division 1-A defensive player shoud still be able to make a lot of the tackles that they were missing, and it had nothing to do with the speed, athleticism, or routes of the offense.

Ive seen better tackling at a pop warner game than some of what the Big XII has shown us.

I think this is a shot of JL's most recent tackle
As you can see, JL’s hair has grown out recently.
