JayPa to Toledo?
This is interesting. Looks like Jay Paterno might be on the short list for the Toledo Rockets head coaching job that just opened up.
Another guy being mentioned is Jay Paterno from Penn State. He is the quarterbacks coach for the Nittany Lions, and he was interested in the Toledo job back in 2000 when Gary Pinkel left for Missouri.
Jay, the legendary Joe Paterno's son, has alot of coaching experience now and is a more serious possibility for the head coaching job at Toledo. He has developed Penn State quarterbacks such as Anthony Morelli, Michael Robinson, Zach Mills, and current PSU quarterback Darryl Clark.
Jay started out as the tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator for Penn State, and has been considered a good recruiter for the Nittany Lions. He was also the quarterbacks coach at James Madison for one year, wide receivers and tight ends coach at UCONN for two years and a graduate assistant coach at Virginia for three years before that. He was a backup quarterback at Penn State during his playing days.
Jay would be a good fit for this program since he's been recruiting the Ohio area for Penn State and has surely made several ties to local high school coaches.

Jay can't go...
He needs to stay at PSU because the whole JayPa head coach in 2010 won’t work without him….and going to Toledo is like going to Temple or Rutgers back in the 80’s….JoePa only wants coaches to take good jobs

For a moment
Forget Jay is Joe’s kid. He’s at the point in his career where he is coming up on 15 years as an assistant coach. Most coaches dream of being a head coach some day. He’s not going to beat out Tom Bradley, Larry Johnson, or Tom Vanderlinden, or even Dick Anderson for the head job at PSU. So he’s going to have to go somewhere else or stay at PSU another 20 years.
Joe does like to see his assistants take good jobs, but in this day and age nobody starts out by coaching USC or Ohio State. Jim Tressel coached at Youngstown State. Pete Carroll had other head coaching gigs. A small MAC school like Toledo would be a good starter job for a PSU assistant coach. It’s a school with recent success, but the pressure wouldn’t be overbearing to win right away.
I doubt it will happen, but I hope he gets an interview. While we throw Jay under the bus often, he’s still a Penn Stater and I would like to see him do well. And if he gets the job you can pretty much count on a standing Temple-like rivalry with Toledo for years to come.

Toledo
Toledo actually has a decent football history (for a MAC team). In addition to wins over PSU and Michigan in the past decade (and Pitt too!), historically they’ve been good like going 35-0 from 1969-1971. I’m not saying they are a top program or anything, but they aren’t bad for a relatively nearby non-BCS team and Ohio is a pretty fertile state. A coach recruiter/coach could actually do well there (relatively).

Holy Toledo
It would be interesting to see how Jay does as a head coach, just not at PSU. If he proves his mettle at a MAC school maybe in 10 years when Bradley retires he could come back.
I don't know, Mello Yello is pretty awful. What's the worst that could happen?

English
I love how the dude writes:
Jay, the legendary….instead of:
Jay, the son of legendary….
Pretty funny difference….
