Let's try and pull ourselves together, people...
Man today hurt... we all know how much this loss sucked but throwing tirades about officiating or playcalling / coaching is getting us nowhere.
Let's come to terms with it... we made too damn many mistakes out there. Playcalling did not leave a receiver wide open down the field for a float pass for a TD. The refs did not make receivers drop ball or not hold blocks or have errant throws. (note: the refs DID give us that first Clark fumble back at the 1 and I still have no clue how in the hell that happened) Coaching did not commit a stupid penalty or poor block in the redzone to make us settle for 3's.
It just wasn't meant to be.
So let's get our minds straight and get to the Rose Bowl. I hope to see many of you out here as it is an hour from me and I know how well we travel. Let's keep rolling and shake it off and hopefully we continue to kill it on the recruiting trail for good years to come.
WE ARE....

Sure, it's a definite silver lining
But who wants to play Oregon State again? It feels like a no-win situation waiting to happen. The pageantry will be fun, but we will not be proving anything more about the quality of our team there.
Pretty sure we'll be playing USC
I’d be surprised if Oregon State won at home vs. California and Oregon, and on the road vs. Arizona. I think they fall somewhere in there and USC takes care of business.
My 4 year old baby girl calmed me down...
She came up to me right after they lost and hugged me and said:
“It’s ok, Daddy. They will win next time if we cheer hard for them.”
Right now she has no clue or care about the BCS and the AP or “ESSS EEEE CEEE” speed but she knew Daddy was sad but we would be happy next week if we won again. That’s what I will look forward to and chalk this up to just a bad showing.

4 years olds are good for that
but our 4 year old boy was pretty clueless as to why daddy was stomping around and mommy was crying. Mike says “we’re sad because Penn State lost.” and he replies “it’s ok, they’ll be back on later!” (Everything in the future is ’later’) He doesn’t really have a clue.
Did wonders for me
They’re too sweet to make me hold onto that pissed off feeling for long

agree
i used to be insufferable when psu loses. I just have a different perspective now a days. PSU has in the past just been awful on the road, and the staff just cant seem to get the boys ready to play on the highway. This one goes squarely on the staff. Congrats to Iowa for doing what they had to do to win. Besides…..florida looks soooo scary. just kidding. None of us expected this kinda run. psu coaches need to find a way to win on the road or this will happen every single year…
Exactly
PSU was screwed the moment it turned a half of utter domination into a mere 6 point lead. That’s not enough points against a very good Iowa team. The red zone offense and defense was awful today, and most of that was players not winning their individual battles. Or making outright bad decisions.
Iowa won the game where it counts.
we were
not jobbed.
There were too many lapses to reasonably say we deserved to win this game. Key lapses must be assessed to Scirrotto (blown coverage on TD, key interference call which was completely unnecessary), Clark (inability to call TO at key moment- equal blame to coaching staff on that one- very tough that we could possibly be undefeated yet save for one small mental error). Other lapses include terrible hands by various receivers, lousy punting when it really mattered, inability to stop a short passing game, and a couple of key holding calls on the O line.
PSU just didn’t rise to the challenge this time. I thought we were going to when we bulled across that 2nd quarter TD, but I’ve got to give credit to iowa for toughing this one out.

Pass Interference...
I thought it was a bad call. Scirotto was going for the ball. I can’t put that on Anthony, that was a horrific call.
WE ARE.......PENN STATE!
That was the right call.
The pass interference was the right call. You can not run over the receiver en route to getting the ball. Anthony clobbered the guy. That was text book pass interference.
He didn't run
over the wideout. He left his feet trying to make a play on the ball. He hit the wideout in the air while making a play on the ball. I’d understand if he dumptrucked the wideout, but it was coincidental contact. I saw far worse yesterday not get called.
And don't forget the numerous drops by Quarless
why is he even still on the team? Get him off the field and invest some game time in Shuler.
I bleed Blue and White.

Iowa...
….beat us today. They outplayed us. DWill and Odrick were studs and Royster played very well.
I dont understand why they switched Ornberger and Wiz, but that really hurt us.
I thought Clark looked like he was in a fog all game long. Quarless was absolutely horrible and should not see the field again as a Lion. Maybin just was a non-factor and Hull is completely overmatched as a Big Ten LB.
WE ARE.......PENN STATE!
Clark looked like he was in a fog
I kept thinking that he looked like he was still in his concussion.
I was hoping they would have pulled him for a series or 2 and given Devlin a shot.
It’s not like we were taking advantage of Clark’s running ability.
Too Soon
Clark has had two sub-par games. But before that he was excellent. He’s earned the chance to lead the team and deserves another opportunity to get the team rolling again.
"It just wasn't meant to be"
That’s a cop out. The team played poorly and paid dearly for it. In college football, you have to be perfect every week, and if you’re not, then you need as much luck as possible to win out.
Penn State was neither yesterday.
They are still a good football team (Clark included), and the especially stinging part of all of this is that each person who said “PSU doesn’t deserve it” now has the ammunition they need. That’s what sucks the most for the fans.
Clark
Can’t be on a roller coaster with his emotions. A great leader needs to stay even keel. I don’t care if he threw 10 TDs or 10 picks, he needs to keep his emotions in check. I know he took the blame for the loss, but it wasn’t a one man effort. You could point to a couple of different plays. The opening drive play calling, Clark’s INT, Quarless’ dropped pass, pass protection. It doesn’t matter at this point. What matters is regrouping and recapturing the magic that was the Spread HD from early in the season. Ever since the weather has changed we have had 3 sub par offenses proformances in 4 games. We need to get this thing corrected.
And calling for our backup QB is not an option. Clark gives us the best chance to win. If he didn’t, he wouldn’t play.
PSU Softball
So you're saying that our first-string QB last year was the best QB we had?
Just because he’s the starter and in the game does not make him the best QB and give the team the best chance to win…we learned that last year.
I do think DC is the best QB for our team this year, but his performance has been declining over the past few games. What harm is there in giving PD a drive or 2 to see if he can change the tempo of the game and give the D some different threats to account for.
I bleed Blue and White.

Exactly
Like someone said before, Illinois did it with Juice last year and it worked wonders.
It’s not a slap to Clark – it’s just a chance to let him get his head straightened out and maybe mix up the opponent’s D for a few series. It couldn’t hurt, especially since we know Devlin is good.
Clark's emotions
I raised this concern after he was beating himself up over the late pick against Wisconsin. I openly wondered how he would handle adversity in a close game. The answer in the last two games has been “not well”.
Mike
Black Shoe Diaries
Morelli
Joe stuck with Morelli because he was loyal and Morelli had the type of mindset that if you pulled him from the game beacuse of a performance, he would never recover. DC is the exact same as QB 14 in the aspect. He is highly emotional and would be destroyed if he was yanked from a game because of his performance. Morelli was what he was…a very streaky QB who didn’t show up in big games (Tennesse bowl game is the exception). He could throw a ball through a brick wall, but the mental aspect wasn’t there. We could argue all day how many more games we would have won with DC at QB (i would say at least 2, Ilinios and Michigan State) but 2007 is history and we are 2 games from a BCS Bowl game…
I have no problem with getting Devlin some looks, but in a close game, do you really think that is the right time to start changing QBs? It’s not like Devlin is a 4.4 forty running QB, he is a Athletic QB who is an advanced passer and can run the ball if need be.
DC’s stats and performance has gone down every week, but until the Iowa game, we have been able to pull out the victory.
PSU Softball
So, you're saying he (14) could throw the ball through a brick wall, ....
but he wasn’t much smarter than the bricks in that wall?

Early
Still too early in Clark’s career to know what he really is. A number of players failed to show up on Saturday, and it was evident as early as warmups. Also, nearly every QB in the top 25 (including Tebow, Sanchez, McCoy) has sucked in a meaningful game this year.
We learn more about this team in the next 2 weeks than we have YTD. PSU has benefited from a largely easy schedule, however, that does not mean they aren’t capable of beating anyone in the country. Either this team goes the way of 99, then those in the media that doubted them are right, but it’s up to the team, not the media, for PSU to win out, whip USC in the Rose, and write their own story

The Exam
Saturday We will know what kind of team we truly have.
They can go through the motions and win by 10 points or less ( Possibly lose) or they can stand up , make the plays and beat these guys by 4 touchdowns.
Personally I expect the latter. I think Joe motivates this team to go on and crush IU. That sets up next week’s game with the Spartans. The Big Ten Championship is on the line. We need to WIN that Championship. I don’t care who represents the PAC 10 . Let’s win the games and relax until Pasadena

Question for the Gallery
If Penn State and OSU win out; do they “share” the Big Ten title or does the result of their game break the tie?
Reg4
The share the title
and tOSU can print up their big 10 champions t-shirts like they did in 2005

winning co-champs...winning special olympics
you can fill in the rest of the joke
Also, we would share the Big 10, but Penn State would get the BCS bid due to the head-to-head win.

I hate how it officially goes down in history
And the smart-asses can stop you when you mention that we’ve won 2 Big Ten Championships in the last 4 years. Ugh.
Can they, tho?
Does being an official ‘Co-champion’ preclude saying that you’ve won the Big Ten Championship? Does omission of the entirety of the truth mean you can be stopped as a liar? I argue no, based on the boolean core, tho some BSD lawyers might quibble in terms of The Law.
And given this, I’m less worried about being called out by someone who is trying to insist that we selfdeclare as ‘co-champs’ (which I flatly refuse to do) than I am of the lesser co-champ who lost the head-to-head (jaOsu) declaring themselves champ or counting it in a series of years’ worth of championships. A real quick way to get my goat to be sure.
pax et amor
The only way I'd ever claim co-champ
is if there was either a 3-way (or more) tie with each team beating one of the other, who beats the other, or if there was a 2-way tie, but neither team played each other. If there’s head to head matchups, though, and one team clearly won them, then they should be the only champ

Big Ten Co-Champions
I agree “sharing” the Big Ten title with OSU when Penn State beat them in THEIR building is insulting. I guess that means we all have to root for the Illini and ( Heaven Forbid) the Wolverines to knock them off.
Reg4
co champs
that makes me so goddamn angry. twice this decade we win and both times these a-holes limp up behind us: (in retarded voice) “hey, we’re co-champs man. hehe we’re co-champs”
It wouldn’t be so bad if THEY DIDN’T WIN IT STRAIGHT OUT EVERY OTHER YEAR
damn it damn it damn it. I hate it. It makes me sick. I am rooting for michigan so hard next week…
then again, maybe we’ll choke it up next week and then this rant will be irrelevant.
"It was an attrition football game and you know we like that."
if we choke it up next week
I still hope that Michigan beats Ohio State. I would rather Michigan State get the full title after beating us than for them to tie Ohio State and lose the tiebreaker…though I guess I would rather have Ohio State representing us in a BCS bowl than Michigan State because a) they would have a better chance of winning, and b) if they lose again we can all still say “hey, Ohio State just chokes in the big games” while we go on to win our bowl.
