Why does it happen to us?

Why can't we close the door on the critics and haters? Why do we go so conservative on the road? Why does everything need to be so difficult? If you can, help me cope and vent my Kool-Aid drinking frustions. Get ready for all the "I told you so" reporters and haters stating this is why we don't deserve respect.

Star-divide

1.With a 20+ MPH wind, we attempt to begin the game passing. Was it to give DC confidence? Is Iowa that vulnerable from an air attack?

2. We march down the field. Running the ball the from the "New HD Offense" into the Red Zone. Once inside the 5 yd line, here comes the 3 TE's.

"Example" After recieving the ball on the 2 yd line following a pass interference penalty in the End Zone, we line up the 3 TE's and pound the ball between the tackles with no success. We settle for a FG after having a 1st and goal from the 2.

How many times have we seen this? How many time has it failed? How many times do we run the similar play back to back?

Lloyd Carr once said he didn't have to watch tapes of Penn State. We run the same plays from year to year. He was right?

3. It was apparent the coaches felt they needed to protect DC. I respect that. Head injuries are serious. So, we protected him by having DWill run all the typical QB draws. Did you know that DWill was going to run after a while? They did change it up by throwing to a TE down the middle of the field. Passing to the TE, that is an entirely different issue they need to address.

If you need to run the QB with DWill, then maybe your QB isn't healthy.

So. If DC needed protected, he probably wasn't 100%. I wonder if Devlin may have been a better choice for this game. Not saying DC is to lose his starting position. #17 earned the startring role. It is his, as long as he is healthy.

4. Did we select to be going into the wind in the 4th qtr? If so, why?

I know I'm whining about losing. I do know they played better than us and PSU was OUT-COACHED.

THANKS FOR GIVING ME THE OPPORTUNITY TO VENT. I FEEL BETTER!

Please

This “too conservative on the road” thing is starting to irritate me.

  1. If you get the ball on the two yard line and pound it 3 times, percentages say, especially with this offensive line, that we’re going to score more often than we will if we pass. If you can’t pound it in from two yards out, you don’t deserve to win. That isn’t on the coaches, its on the players.
  1. Relatively sure Mickey Shuler made a huge catch in the fourth quarter, which might have been our last 3rd down conversion.
  1. As you said, we came out passing in 20 mph winds. What is conservative about that.

This is a tired argument. The players committed costly penalties and dropped passes. The quarterback threw a late interception. These things happen.

Just because we lost doesn’t mean we got out coached.

1. that is pretty funny

1. I agree that coming out passing is far from conservative. This is college football, this happens to every team every year. Does anyone think TT and Alabama are going to be undefeated at the end of the year? Florida loses to Mississippi State, USC to OSU, and the list goes on. The problem is the system. WE NEED A PLAYOFF, that is it, then these college kids don’t have to feel like their career is a waste after one tough loss.

I don't know, Mello Yello is pretty awful. What's the worst that could happen?

Best post

With the all 1s fugi.

Maybe not out coached, but, look at the numbers before and after the half. Something for da**ed sure didn’t go right in the locker room at halftime.

And of course we need a playoff, and if they can do it at the lower levels, there isn’t any reason at all thet FBS can’t.

If the year ends with eight 1-loss teams

what do you think the BCS gurus will say then?

They'll say PSU is not one of the top 2 teams

They’ve been saying it all year.
And the rest of us will be screaming – even louder – for a playoff.

well I wasn't referring to where PSU would finish

since I don’t think we’d be in the top 2. I was more implying the playoff implications, since it would basically boil down to “which of these 8 teams do we guess are the best 2” which for some reason passes as a legitimate way to pick teams in division 1-A football.

As a note on how well the BCS performs, everyone was jumping out of their chairs trying to claim how the BCS works back in 2005 because there were only 2 unbeatens. Good job guys, 1/10 years ain’t bad. Also, if you need such a complicated system to figure out which teams go to the championship game, and it only gets validated if the choice is so painfully obvious a 3 year old could figure it out…well then you’re probably not very effective.

Playoff...

I would almost rather see a true playoff instituted in my lifetime over a Penn State BCS championship… I kid you not. I am beginning to think that the playoff will NEVER happen and it just makes me sad for college football.

If you can smile when things go wrong, you have someone in mind to blame.
