Laurinitis AP All-American
for the third straight year, the pilejumper gets the award.

maybe we are all wrong about him. maybe his prowess isn't reflected by simple metrics. maybe his influence reaches far beyond half tackles, and systematically getting owned by offensive lineman.
naaaaaaaaaa....
i seriously question any college football award at this point. how any "professional" can by guilted into voting him such an honor is beyond me, and i have to logically think that the above decision making rationalle is being applied to every award in NCAA football. The Heisman, the Bednarik, etc., are all shams.
the guys over at TNL did their job:

I agree with your points and say meh.
We just needed a couple players, a couple people to buy in to the fact and we were able to do it. --A.Q. Shipley

I find it odd...
…that the Butkus award winner doesn’t make the list?

Laura Nitis
got awarded an additional 15 assisted tackles for being named AA. Damn contract provisions.
Just out of curiosity – what’s his projected draft status? Are the pro pickers that high on him?

I hope they are
I can’t wait to hear analysts saying in a few years, “how the hell was this guy a first round draft pick?”, then watch him fade into mediocrity.

Wow!
Did you guys know his dad was a professional WWF wrestler.
It’s true, you can look it up.

This just in from Istanbul Times
James Laurinitis makes the All-Turkey team. A fitting award for a guy who’s 119 tackles included 75 assisted tackles. 75!

Promoting players like Lauren is just for the $$$ from the school’s alumni, who eat this crap up every year. Schools like USC, OSU, and the ND of ye old all get so many awards because the publications want that sweet sweet cash flow from large and lucrative fanbases.
If some more deserving player from a small school with less $$ potential wins, those publications don’t sell. People like OSU fans pay a lot of money to read about how great their team and players are…

I have failed you.
All this time searching for kids jumping on piles of leaves, and I finally found the perfect one.

There you go again, RUTS...
As I mentioned in the thread about Maybin’s mom, I will not be able to do yardwork without laughing at that asshole launching himself into the end of a play. This will most assuredly make me appear soft in the head when my neighbors see me giggle like a moron while raking leaves.

Eh
While I appreciate your determination, I prefer the one you’ve previously used of the little girl.
Goes better with the “Laura” theme, I think.

agreed
but this launch is a bit more Laurinaitis-like. Maybe we can photoshop the girl to be just a bit higher ;-)

I don't know what you guys are arguing about, Lauranitis is better than Posluzny ever was and doesn't get half the hype that he did
……before you kill me, I’m kidding.
I support Takimoto in his effort to support Roger Kieschnick in his quest to becoming the best Kieschnick ever to play professional baseball.

I don’t know why, but I think it’s going to end up being an instant classic

This AA decision
reeks of media laziness. They couldn’t have actually watched the football and come to this conclusion. They just looked at the returning member list and voted.

welcome to the world of college football
where every award and championship is determined by media laziness.

which is why JL getting the award is disconcerting
it tarnishes the achievments of others who are deserving.

I’m Curious
Are you including the past recipients or just present winners?
by WE ARE SC on Dec 17, 2008 4:17 PM EST reply actions 0 recs
In JL's case - both.
Aorund the Big 10, he’s known as a great story (Dad was a pro wrestler, blah, blah, blah), an OK LB, and a world-class piler-on. OSU’s stat keepers MUST be under orders to award him an assist anytime he’s within 5 yards of someone else’s tackle. Even the OSU blog community ridicules his numbers at times.
If you an find another player with a worse solo-to assisted tackle ratio, please let us know posthaste.

at this point, i'm not sure
i mean no disrespect to maluga or those listed alongside this abomination, as well as past recipients.
it’s just that i’ve been watching this guy for 3 years now, and i cannot possibly see how he repeatedly wins, or at least gets nominated for awards which are reserved for the elite of college football.
