I already hate arm-Pitt
So reading the ESPN conversations, and I've decided that Pitt fans are what you say they are. I was going to give them a chance, I really was. It's a natural Oregonian instinct to try and make friends first, enemies second. But the fans are ridiculous. And stupid. They run their mouth's about Oregon State like they have watched every game this year. They talk to us like WE have the second rate team. They tell us that we couldn't stop Oregon and YOUR offense's (both some of the best in the nation, mind you) that there is no way we're stopping Shady McCoy and coming out with a win. Well, I say, Bowling Green found a way. So did a crappy Rutgers team. But then they bring up Stanford and Utah. Apparently the same rules don't apply to PItt. Apparently, a loss at home to Bowling Green is better then a loss on the road to Stanford (who had 5 wins this year-- not a great team, but they were improved). Anyways, the point of this post is I am writing a "Top 10 Reasons to hate Pitt" article over at Building the Dam and I was hoping you guys would have some good, funny, and/or true reasons to hate the team known as Pitt. Something that us west coasters wouldn't know. Thanks a lot.
Go Beavs! YOU ARE...

Sorry you had to find out the hard way
See, in Pitt’s mind they are better than us. And since we beat Oregon State, they figure they will destroy you as well. Ask them what makes them think they are better than Penn State and they will quote you 12-0, the final score the last time the two teams played in 2000. Of course that game came during PSU’s worst five year stretch in a hundred years.
One reason I hate Pitt, whenever you ask for directions in Pittsburgh, the answer invariably always comes back, “It’s over the bridge.”
But hey, at least they have that nice NFL stadium they rent play in.

Even worse
The part I find most hilarious about Pitt fans with regards to PSU is how they love to quote “record since 2000” as though there is something “special” about the year 2000 and its relevence to teams today. And the reason why they choose that year is because it is the year that makes Pitt look as good as possible compared to PSU — even despite that, though, PSU has a better record since 2000 than Pitt at this point and far better in recent years.
What’s great is that they like to ignore how for 25 years, they’ve been irrelevent nationally in college football and how their “golden years” of the 70’s/early 80’s was the actual fluke — not the crappy years in the 90’s.

the time frame argument is always a mess.
We have the same thing with Duck fans. We go back and forth quoting time frames and the other group always pisses on whatever time frame the opposition is using. It’s great fun.

I still think..........
“looks like Pitt called for another Yellow Out this weekend” is one of the funnier things I have read on this website.
I hate to be sacriligious…….but that shirt they had back in the 90s that said “Not all Penn State fans are assholes” with a picture of Paterno with a dick for a nose was definitely hilarious.
Mark May. That is probably the best recent reason to hate Pitt.

They aren't worth hating
They are irrelevant. Look at the stands for their home games. My guess is they see you guys as being less relevant than them so they finally have someone to pick on. They like to tell us that they are better than us b/c they beat Iowa. It’s kind of like when they little brother kicks the dog because the older brother picks on him.

Reasons to hate Pitt:
Number 8:
Dave Wannstedt’s talking mustache and the stupid Pittsburgh accent that emminates from it.
Number 7:
College towns kick ass and Pitt is located within a large city.
(also sufficient reasons to hate USC and Ohio State)

Here's a few tidbits
This mediocre 9-win season is Pitt’s best in over 20 years, yet they talk more trash than any other fanbase I’ve met.
Their “campus” looks like Gothem City from the Batman comics, except in real life it smells like a wet ashtray.
The Pitt campus resembles the post-apocalyptic world featured in the Terminator series, except instead of killer-robots they have fat chicks and drunk assholes.
from their wiki page: “When the Pitt offense moves into the 20 yard line, two large, motorized Heinz ketchup bottles flanking either side of the scoreboard tilt over and beginning to pour out their electronic contents onto the JumboTron’s screen signifying the team’s move into the "red zone”. " — if that isn’t the stupidest thing you’ve heard lately, you’re probably a Pitt student.
In 1981 Pitt had QB Dan Marino and went on to go 11-1 with a trip to the Sugar Bowl. It was their last “great” season. That one loss came to Penn State. At home. 48-14.

+2 for that last line
48-14 is THE most memorable football score from my childhood. Thinking….yeah, the most memorable football score in my entire life. If somebody asked me (like at a Rose Bowl tailgate): ‘jp, dig back into all the football games you’ve ever watched and tell us what score stands out the most in your memory’, it would be this score. Yep. Mark Robinson running back a Marino pick for six in ONE SHOE!
In fact, that being their last great season, and that last great blemish coming on the last game of their regular season, at home, you could justifiably cite that Pitt hasn’t been great since 48-14. You would really, really dig at some shittonpitt oldheads over there with that.
Good luck VD. What a fun present to help a brotha out with! You always give us the fun puzzles!

The announcer even said that Pitt's schedule wasn't as strong
I miss the days of good non-conference football games taking place not in bowl games. Back when coaches weren’t pussies.
These coaches today seem to schedule like they are trying to win the national championship every year (I know, you will say, DUH) but how realistic is it to do that? You’re actually not doing yourselves any favors by scheduling patsies, because, then, you know, Ole Miss comes to town and boom, you lose. Imagine having played decent non-conference games, you would have been more prepared.

Ahh, my last home game as a Senior....
I was at that game. Everytime Pitt made it towards the student section, a rousing cheer of “Marino Sucks!” drowned out the signal calling. It certainly seemed to our PBR-addled brains that we were the catalyst for his demise. Anyone of that era remember the Jimi Hendrix banner on the green Chevy pickup at tailgate parties? We “Briarwood boys” were the only ones with beer left at halftime. (No, not due to a lack of skills, but prescience.) Anyway, that was a great game and a great way to cap off four years at a great school in a great town. Damn, I feel old tonight.

As if that somehow makes Duke relevant then too?
I dunno. Like I said, I was willing to give them a chance. I figured all the Pitt bashing on here was more a fact of in-state rivalry then anything else. But after talking with some Pitt fans online, I realize it’s so much more. They really are the epitome of horrible fans. I thought Duck fans were bad, but at least they have some history to back up the shit talking.
One of the most irritating things to me when a fan talks shit is bringing up history— what happened from 2000 til the present time has no relevance to this years team. Oregon State fans know this better then anyone: we had 28 CONSECUTIVE losing seasons. We were worse than Duke, worse than the old Rutgers, worse than the new Syracuse. But obviously, we field a competitive team (after September) now and I don’t give a shit what the Pitt teams in the ‘80s were doing. It’s my favorite thing to quote (especially to Washington and Notre Dame fans who can’t get over the fact they suck now) that if we were going by history, then really, Army and Navy trump ALL of our programs because of all the national championships they won in the early 1900s.
You guys have been awesome and I’m looking forward to seeing y’all in the Rose Bowl. I’ve always enjoyed PSU football, and I admire the crap out of JoePa (I honestly don’t think anyone could hate JoePa— if you do, you have no soul) but I have become a true fan of Penn State and will continue rooting for them the rest of my life. Here’s hoping we see you next year in Bowl Season.

Pitt is playing OSU in a bowl game? I didn’t see that. That’s FUNNY. The Beavers are getting a nice tour of PA football this year. First you get the class, now you get the ass.
It’s interesting to hear an unbiased opinion of Pitt fans from someone who’s never experienced them before. Man I wish those bums would get their mediocre asses out of the great Heinz Field.

So happy we played OSU
Really, I know it’s been said above, but thanks for being humble this whole season. Yes we killed you guys, but seriously, thanks for being good sports, and congrats on all of your success this season. I kind of wish we had signed a home and home with you guys. Hopefully Quizz gets better (if he hasn’t already) and you guys kick the shit out of Pitt (rhyme not intended, but I’ll go with it). Hopefully we can embarrass the “#1 team in the nation” like you guys did.
P.S. Now just imagine living in the same state as Pitt, and having to deal with their bullshit whenever we happen to be walking down a street with a PSU shirt on and some high and mighty “graduate” of that wonderful university tries to make sure you know that even though PSU has dominated the rivalry, your team somehow sucks and is somehow inferior to Pitt in all their Big East glory. Although I’m sure the majority of us PSU fans would rather play in the Rose Bowl, myself included, I know there’s probably a few that wish that we could have the chance to crush Pitt again, especially in a bowl, but best of luck, and kick some Panther ass.

That’s a lot more media coverage, you know, with Nike and all. But their fans would harass you ‘til death. They aren’t as much fun. Our game was nationally televised on ABC. They don’t put you on that channel at 3:30 if you’re some slouch, and I’m confident if we went to see you guys, we could expect much the same thing. College Gameday? Not exactly, but, Oregon St., with their wins over USC, and annual top 3 finishes in the Pac-10, has a degree of national respect that Pitt has nowhere near earned.

Its Not The Grads
The worst Pitt fans are the trash that live in the city. They don’t have a snowballs chance of hell of getting in there, but they say “we” and “us”, when referring to the Panthers. I find, most Pitt students and grads live in reality, and know they don’t have a very good program any more. Its the assholes that can barely speak in coherent sentences, and the slobs that have the slaw from their Primanti’s sandwiches oozing out of their dirty mouths, onto their Steeler sweatshirts from 1974 that are the ones to hate.
