USC's arrogance only gets better!
I just heard on ESPN Radio that Pete Carrol(sp?) is going to accept a 2 timeout penalty in the UCLA game in order to spice it up by having USC's team wear their home uniforms instead of their white away uniforms. This is their cross-town rival and UCLA has shocked USC before. It's pretty arrogant to give up your timeouts in order to wear a certain type of uniform and just say....oh well we do as we please and we don't need those timeouts anyway.
Seriously, these guys at USC might outdo Miami in 1987!!

yea...here's the article

It further proves that Peter and his team of arrogant pricks are all about the show. I couldn’t name one other team that would accept this sort of penalty just so they could wear a particular jersey.
This is ridiculous. Basically they are saying they don’t need all of their timeouts to win this game. Probably true….but it sends a real condescending message to UCLA…this should be bulletin board material for them.
I really do want to play USC with the hopes of giving the media a nice big shit burger to eat….however, it would be nice if USC loses based on the fact they gave up a timeout in the second half, just to wear some f*cking jersey.

LenDale White
did anyone else catch LenDale White hamming it up on the sideline during the game with the RBs and WRs? JoePa would never let that slide. yes we have former alumni (oh wait, he didn’t graduate) on the sideline during games, but they would never go to the bench and just start talking to the players…Peter runs a tight ship…

Ehhh...
I don’t find this overly terrible. It is bringing back a neat little tradition, doesn’t seem to be intended out of spite, and it is not like other teams don’t mess with their uniforms. And both teams and the conference seem to be on board.
LSU usually plans to wear their white uniforms as home uniforms. Schools do all sorts of crap with third color uniforms and the like. Notre Dame and the dumb green jerseys, and so on.
I think Oregon should be penalized anytime they wear the flourescent yellow uniforms, and remember those uniforms that Florida, Miami, and VA Tech wore a few years ago with 1 sleeve a different color?
All that being said, what a random penalty to assess. One timeout each half? Who made that up?
Finally, still, let’s wipe our asses with USC no matter what color jersey they wear.

I agree
it is stupid that it is a penalty if both teams agree to it. It would be different if UCLA didn’t give it the OK and USC just came in and said, “we’re doing whatever we want”
Also, it isn’t like it is a completelhy random thing, since apparently this was the tradition for a while.

Hm...
Actually, I think this is crap. I mean, cool tradition and all, but I don’t believe Carroll would do this unless he believes he’s going to win no matter what. There are several scenarios in which three timeouts can be crucial. Heck, if UCLA is winning at the end of the game, say in the last two minutes, and they run three times straight up the middle, USC would have, at best 1:20 to score rather than 1:50 or so… which can be ages in the game of college football. If they blow a time out too early, that goes down to 40 seconds.
I would be furious if Penn State chose to do this just to wear their blue against a rival. I hope karma goes and bites Carroll in the butt.

meh
I mean, I can see how this is Pete being overconfident, but I don’t see the point in us as PSU fans getting riled up about this. So he’s disrespecting UCLA. That’s what rivalries do. After they win the game there will be plenty of opportunities to get upset about USC taking us lightly. I can’t find myself getting worked up about this one.

People People People
Carroll and Rick discussed at the begining of the season and considered a gentleman’s agreement where the home coach would just call a timout at the begining of each half to make it even. It will probably happen this way. Anyway the white away rule is antiquated. It is a relic from black and white TV days.

Again I'll ask...
Can’t Coach Neuheisel just decline the penalty?

We're suffering from SFAVS (Scouring for a Villain Syndrome)
We have to accept that PSU is a very benign presence in the world of college football. A well respected one, but benign. It would be nice if a team disrespected us as it would spice things up (Michigan State was close), but USC would NEVER do this home uniform thing to us or any other team.
And USC is NOT Miami. Sorry. They’re confident, maybe a little pompous, but hardly a$$hole arrogant like camouflage dungarees, which by the way 95% of Center Pennsylvania’s population wears year round.

Oh
And how much do you want to bet that they’ll lose because of this? Whether the time out causes an adherence, or UCLA gets fired up to the point of running USC over?

Yeah, maybe
But we look extremely hip in it. Or would, if you could see us. That’s the good make-you-invisible camo I’m refering to.
I agree that this is a nothing. As noted, LSU gets agreement from its opponents to wear whites at home, and no penalty ever gets assessed.
What’s up with that? Why is this different?

Glad somebody brought it up...
I always thought the jersey color was home team’s choice, and it’s generally just tradition that teams wear their colored jersey at home.
…and I wholeheartedly agree with shadowfax that OU’s fluorescent yellow uniforms should be summarily banned. In fact I have half a mind to write the Lane County D.A.’s office and demand that Phil Knight be criminally prosecuted for supplying them.

I think for the Rose Bowl, PSU should go old school as well
and wear the old pink and black uniforms. FEAR THE PINK, USC…FEAR THE PINK!
I bleed Blue and White.
