In case you're interested
Conquest Chronicles posted a write up about the matchup next week. After reading it, I didn't come away frustrated or surprised like I did when I read tOSU's delusional pre-game writeup. This one is actually as fair as it could be for a Trojan blog and I thought I'd share it with you all.

Now, if only they could get people to post comments on their blog....it seems like NO ONE comments on Conquest Chronicles. In fact, QBsneak12 offered two Rose Bowl tix at face value, on Conquest Cronicles' fanposts, and the only comment was from BSD Mike calling him a traitor...ha.
I wouldn't recommend starting pissing matches with these clowns, but I thought you all would be interested in seeing what the oppositons' fans have to say about us. In short, they are not even close to being as delusional as tOSU fans are.
Thanks for the fanpost! Please do not post any content from a premium site that requires a subscription. Also, if you just want to share a link, quote, or video, please consider using fanshots instead. Thanks.

Interesting
Seems like a preview full of stereotypes.
Penn State mostly runs the Power I formation.
Evan Royster has “some” speed for a Big Ten guy
Penn State will mostly run the ball
USC has to watch out for Daryll Clark running with the ball. He won’t try to throw much, cuz, you know, he’s black.
I have a stat comparison set to run on Friday morning. I think you will all be surprised how well Penn State matches up with USC.

Come ON
I had my clown nose all ready to go, too, but apparently it was a wasted gesture.
More importantly, though: Implying that we’re making racist comments about your quarterback because he’s black? Please. I can understand why any Penn State fans would be pissed about the national coverage of this game, but there’s no need to misrepresent what we put out there.
Your readers shouldn’t be surprised at how well Penn State matches up with SC, statistically. I eyeballed the NCAA stats when the matchup was set, and it’s abundantly clear to me from doing so that the line is designed to move money. No more, no less.
Well
I was a little bothered by this:
Clark will have difficulty trying to use his god given skills to run the ball…
My biggest grievance with Clark has been his refusal to take obvious runs when they’re available, and turn them into pass play, if for no other reason than to prove he can throw the football. If you read some of the things he says, its obvious Clark IS NOT a run first quarterback, and its almost a fault of his at times.

Paragon’s a man of faith, so when he uses that phrase, he means it quite literally, not as a euphemism. None of us over there would tolerate any stereotyping nonsense about black quarterbacks.
As for whether or not Clark overcompensates for a perception that he’s not a passing QB, you all would know better than us.
Not seeing the problem here...
He is a great player and he does have some speed… you don’t teach speed, you have it or you don’t.
You know him better than we do, but the comment was structured that “if” he did run he would have some trouble against USC fast defense.
Nothing more nothing less…
for what its worth about speed,
I disagree. I think speed can be taught to a certain extent. Its called practice and a whole lot of plyometrics, strength training, and conditioning. Then if you run your playbook enough to be comfortable with the offense, you’ll also become ‘football fast’.
Let's Go State
I fear your science
I am willing to bet a shiny nickel that there is no trainer alive who could get my sorry ass even to “possession receiver” speed for a high school JV team. But your point is taken.
That's the line I had a problem with too
Clark hardly ran the ball at all this year. Not like Michael Robinson used to anyway. So I guess I’m not exactly sure where the bit about the “God given” talent to run the ball came from. To me it sounds like the typical perception that black quarterbacks can’t throw the ball.
It was not my intention to suggest the fine gentlemen at Conquest Chronicles are racists. I just found that statements curious since anyone who has watched a considerable amount of Penn State football this year can tell you Daryll Clark looks to pass first and almost refused to take the run even when the defense gives it to him. Though Paragon’s statement didn’t come out and specifically say it, he gave in to the stereotype that all black quarterbacks run the ball well and are quick to rely on that. That doesn’t make him a racist in my mind, so while we’re talking about putting words in each other’s mouths let’s not suggest I’m calling him one. We can have another discuss on what constitutes a racist offline over a beer some day.

that's fair
If it’s all just a series of misunderstandings, then by all means let it be done. I’ll be honest, the only Penn State game I really watched this season was the bludgeon-fest against Ohio State. I can’t say that I absorbed anything about your team’s offense from what I watched, but I remain convinced that the offenses of both teams are going to be mainlining Advil on January 2nd.
And on that note, I have to go and make some coffee to offset the 85 pounds of latkes while I finish wrapping Christmas presents (multicultural midwinter festivals pose their own challenges…). Merry whatever you celebrate to all of you!
that's been the thing I've been annoyed at all year
I can’t honestly remember a single good run by Clark, but everyone calls him a “good QB who can really run the ball”. Sure, he can run the ball, and is fast and supposedly agile, but you’d have to delve deep into the game tape to find a run by his that Pat Devlin couldn’t have made, yet Clark gets the label “scrambling QB” while Devlin was our “pocket passing threat”. It may not be intentionally racist, or trying to be “negatively” racist but it is giving into racist stereotypes.
Of course my favorite part about hearing anyone write about the running threat that Clark poses allows me to basically ignore any analysis that person gives since they obviously didn’t watch any Penn State football this year.

oh, and I'm not saying conquest chronicles DID say this
since I haven’t read their analysis yet, but just saying that about any “analysis” that I have read that talks about Clark like that.

Conquest Chronicles = THE MAN... keeping us all down
just kidding! As long as we all have this straightened out let’s put it behind us and look ahead to seeing each other at the tailgates and then on the field next week. See you guys soon and have a wonderful holiday!!!

Wow!
I will address the obvious issue first. Where in my post does it say anything about "USC has to watch out for Daryll Clark running with the ball? He won’t try to throw much, cuz, you know, he’s black." I am frankly disappointed that you make that sort of connotation. This is the last blog I would expect to see that sort of generalization, as PSU fans have shown to be some of the most sophisticated and knowledgeable fans out there.
As for my write-up on your offense I have based my writing off of some of the things that your own coaching staff has said as well as data that I found on my own. I don’t consider PSU some lumbering Big 10 team but you do run the ball more than you pass it so I am having a hard time understanding how you think I am throwing around stereotypes.
Secondly (to the author of the fan post), we have been nothing if not respectful of PSU over the years and we certainly are now so I guess I am not sure where the "clowns" remark is coming from. I am not sure if you are making a general comment about all SC fans or if its directed towards Conquest Chronicles. I seems a little ambiguous to me.
Anyway, sorry you feel the way you do. I look forward to a great match-up
Happy Holidays to you and yours!
Clowns
is most likely referring to the “sports experts” who claim USC is going to crush PSU so badly that it’s going to be a joke of a game. Check any sports page for an example.
Anyways, Merry Christmas and we look forward to a great New Year’s game.
NJ Lion is correct...
it has nothing to do with all SC fans….just the ones who do not have respect for their opponent.
PLUS….what’s wrong with calling the opponent’s fans “clowns”? I call my friends “clown”, “donkey”, and “douchebag” all the time…..it’s all in good fun.
No hard feelings.

I dunno
I’ve had a bit of back and forth with these USC guys, and they’ve treated me well.
I guess I can see the point about that specific line, but that’s not way I understood it when I read it.
I got played when CC posted a blurb by some dickweed writer that made Carroll seem like the second coming of Charlie Weis, not knowing the joke. They gently pointed out my misunderstanding.
I, too, was surprised at the lack of comments on what I consider a quality blog. Where the hell IS everyone out there? CC deserves better.
Maybe I’ll become a semi-regular there – unless we lose. Honestly, though – with The Zug on active duty, we all know losing this game would only be because Zug has determined it would benefit us in some mysterious long range plan.
Hail The Zug. Beat the Trojans.
Merry Christmas, CC guys.

Agree with Stately
Paragon keeps it fair over there. A little staid, maybe, which could account for the limited community participation, but it’s clear he works real hard to stay classy. And he included enough disclaimers about his familiarity/knowledge with us in this writeup, too.
The matchups I’ll be tuning in on are in the trenches. Remember how Wiz was a little banged up (ankle, I think?) and our coaches thought Ohrnberger would have a better go against Mitch King? And, ummm, he didn’t, and got pwned all day? And how that among other things brought our rushing avg down to 3.9 and helped contribute to keeping us out of the all-important end zone? But how we also managed to still get 24 first downs and dominate time of possession?
I’ll be watching to see if Moala, Spicer & Griffen can stuff the run blocking & pulls of Wiz, Cadogen and Shipley.
