Charlie Weis Firing Pool
There was some scuttle-butt in the fanshots about Charlie Weis getting one more year to Return to Glory at Notre Dame. It got me thinking what we need around here is a Charlie Weis firing pool. Here is my prediction.
Looking at that schedule I could see ND starting out 1-3. But let’s say they go 2-2 losing to Michigan State and either Michigan or Purdue on the road. That’ll be the end of Charlie right there. The wheels will be set in motion behind the scenes, and when he’s blown out 45-3 against USC they’ll pull the plug on Monday.
Mark it down. Charlie Weis will be fired on October 19, 2009.
So what do you say BSD? When will Charlie Weis be fired? Please provide the exact date. First come first serve.
Second question is, what should we award the winner?
Thanks for the fanpost! Please do not post any content from a premium site that requires a subscription. Also, if you just want to share a link consider using fanshots instead. Thanks.

It would be entertaining to elaborate a little bit like I did on how the scenario will be played out. The more outlandish the better of course.

I'm not sure of the date, but I know how they'll do it.
He be in the office & a moving crew will show up. Actually, now that I think about it … they will probably have a second moving crew for his stuff, too.

Charlie: Is that forklift here to take my desk away?
Worker: No Charlie, that forklift is here to take you away.

After the Irish open with a victory, they drop 4 straight, including a tough home loss to the Mike Leach led Washington Huskies. With the bye week up next, the Padres decided they had enough of Weis and his inability to coach kids with a lot of *’s after there name…

Charlie ain't going nowhere
My guess is that he’ll have won just enough games next season to hang on. We’ll put that number at 8. Yes that’s optimistic, but they do have the athletes to beat teams based purely on talent. I see them winning 8, getting dismantled in a bowl game, and coming into the 2010 season with BCS dreams.
Charlie will lead them to 9 wins, and he will get his BCS bid. He will again, be completely dismantled.
2011 – 6 wins. December 03, 2011 (exactly 3 years from today) Fat Charlie is finally put out of his misery.

Upon further thought
Sept. 5 NEVADA (Win)
Sept. 12 at Michigan (Win – Poor RichRod)
Sept. 19 MICHIGAN STATE (Loss)
Sept. 26 at Purdue (Loss – This will feel like a big win for Danny Hope)
Oct. 3 WASHINGTON (Win – But only because the Huskies miss a last second field goal)
Oct. 17 USC (Auto-loss)
Oct. 24 BOSTON COLLEGE (Close loss)
Oct. 31 vs. Washington State (at San Antonio, Texas) (Loss)
After originally planning on waiting to see if Weis could fight it out for a bowl bid, Notre Dame decides enough is enough after a blowout loss to a truly bad Wazzu team. So, November 2nd, 2009 will be the end of one of Notre Dame football’s most glorious errorsas.

Here's how it goes down
Notre Dame begins the preseason ranked 5th and Chuck Weis promises nothing less than a National Championship.
Sep. 5 Nevada (loss)
Chuck says he meant a MNC in 2010.
Sep. 12 at Michigan (loss)
Sep. 19 Michigan St. (loss)
Chuck says he’s pretty sure that losing back-to-back to schools in the same state only counts as one loss.
Sep. 26 at Purdue (loss)
Chuck guarantees victory at his Tuesday presser.
Oct. 3 Washington (win)
Chuck is doused with Gatorade by a freshly-benched Jimmy Clausen.
Oct. 17 USC (loss)
Chuck claims that since he had his eyes shut the whole game, it doesn’t count.
Oct. 24 Boston College (loss)
He’ll get the axe on Oct. 26, 2009. Once BC proves that they’re better Catholics, it’ll be all over. Once that’s done, Ron Powlus will take over the program.
Oct. 31 Washington St. (San Antonio) (win)
Powlus immediately signs a 10-year $20 million contract on November 2.
Nov. 7 Navy (loss)
Nov. 14 at Pittsburgh (loss)
Nov. 21 Connecticut (loss)
Nov. 28 at Stanford (loss)
Repeat.

ooooo.... Ron Powlus
Wasn’t he a 3-time Heisman Trophy Winner?
Or is that just what the media told me was going to happen after his freshman year?

They can't afford to fire him
They signed a dumb contract. He will be there 3 more years till Willingham is finally paid off on his back pay and they can afford it. Also, their new AD is from Duke and he values grades and Weis is actually getting good GPAs and Grad rates out of the kids.

I like the concept
Of ADs having any power when it comes to revenue sports. Would be nice if that were true.

Corso had a funny comment on Game Day last week....
The way the collection works in the Catholic Church:
First part goes to the Vatican
Second part goes to buy out Charlie Weiss
Third part goes to ??? (I can’t remember what he said, but it probably goes to litigation against the sick pedophile priests)
Then he said that the Vatican should just sell one or two of their paintings and buy him out.
I don’t normally listen to what Corso says, but that was funny.

It hurts to lose to BC too much.

After an 0-5 start, punctuated by an OT loss to Washington at home, Weis is let loose. The university decides to bring in another big name alum to replace him. For the USC game, the team bursts out in the green(y) unis…with Mike Golic as head coach (see what I did there? Greeny! SO WITTY).
They immediately lose 56-2, with their only points coming on a play which USC’s 4th string QB runs backward 59 yards, into his own end zone. Petey drives the point home by burning a cross at midfield during warmups and throwing Stars of David into the stands.

After leading his team to 32 consecutive losing seasons (including a run of 20 winless seasons, and a move into Division 1-AA) “Charlie the Chococlate Factory” (a nickname given to him after a game against PSU where he does his best JoePa @ OSU 2006 impersonation, yet fails to make it off the field in time) finally decides to step down.
People still look back fondly to 60 years prior, what were the “glory days” of Notre Dame football, and compare them to the other greats who have fallen so low: the Princetons and Yales and Lehighs. Notre Dame fans try to bring up their superior academic standards as a reason for their athletic decline, but unfortunately after they lost all their free advertising that came with their good football program, everyone realized that they really don’t want to go to school in Indiana, and the academic standards fell as well.
If Charlie “the Chocolate Factory” is to remembered for 3 things, they will be his chocolate producing moment, his failure at losing weight even after gastric bypass surgury (hey kids, take the easy way out!), and the time he spared the lives of 9 children while rationing himself and only devouring one

doesn't mean I can't hope!
besides, I already feel he’s on borrowed time, and wouldn’t be surprised if he got canned during their equivalent of the Blue White game when one of his squads “loses”

December 24th, 2008…
Chuckles is release this year on Christmas Eve… AD Jack Swarbrick is forced to rethink the decision of bringing him back one more year after the Fighting Irish was trounced by BYU 38-6 in the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl just a day earlier…
Jack has this to say… "I feel bad about what had to happen but I have to do what’s best for Notre Dame… Merry Christmas College Football fans!"

Ooooo nice
I hadn’t thought about the post bowl game embarassment scenario. Much better chance of keeping the recruiting class together that way. Most programs will have their rosters full and not a lot of time to schedule visits between then and signing day anyway.

That was my bet.
I added a few days after the bowl game beatdown and the 6-7 record sinking in. They’ll stretch it out a few days, leak contradictory statements, and bungle the thing until early January.
