You'll Never Guess Our RPI
If you said "better than 142" you are wrong.

Wow
It looks like our strength of schedule is killing us. Northwestern is surprisingly #10, so we should have a chance of boosting our RPI tomorrow when we play them.

The thing is
when you have an 11-2 record and an RPI that bad, you aren’t even trying.

Does your RPI
get a boost when you lose?
We played 2 teams in the bottom 9. I’m surprised we are that high.

Honestly, it sounds about right.
…and people are giving PSU grief about the football non-con schedule?

Hey
it has us higher than 60% of the teams in the country, including a couple of teams you’ve heard of. I only skimmed the list, but saw Georgia and Mississippi State. They are both usually at least kind of competitive.

Jesus! Duquesne is above us!
Seriously, Cairo — That’s a good point. It does nothing for the fans, the team, the momentum of the program. Nothing. It’s a fucking embarrassment.

Well....
If we’re talking about the RPI of the law school we went too…….

If law schools had RPI rankings
I think Duquesne’s would be about right.

Can we pick this apart a little?
There are no teams with double-digit wins below us.
Cornell, with a 5-6 record, is #100.
Texas A&M Corpus Christi is #108.
We’re #144, and 2-7 Gardner-Webb is #145.

Take that, LSU!
Honestly, this could need some further exploration with a full post. With the non-con season and the easiest (on paper) Big Ten game on the schedule complete PSU is at a crossroads. On the one hand, they are much improved from years past. They have a discernable offense and have been effective enough on defense. They have shown that they can win close games. The win at Georgia Tech was a quality win in my book, and DeChillis does have a core of guys that can compete for two halves.
On the other hand, they are incredibly thin – an injury to Battle and we’re done. They have been inconsistent and have all of the hallmarks of a young team – sloppy passes, poor shooting percentages, occassional flat play. They’ve also played one of the easiest schedules possible, with a Strength of Schedule of 293rd on the RPI. Maybe the 12-2 record is a result of it being so easy. Can you transition to a Big Ten schedule and get results?
They are 12-2 and have 17 games to go. These are the possibilities:
3-14 or worse and they’re under .500. This is not unlikely even without injuries.
4-13 the rest of the way with one quality win and they’re likely in the NIT.
8-9 and they’re on the bubble. I doubt they make it unless they have some dramatic upsets.
11-6 and they most likely make it to the tournament. If they’re 0-6 against the top teams they would still probably need to win 1-2 games in the Big Ten conference tourney.
