LOS ANGELES -- Penn State junior defensive end Maurice Evans said Tuesday he has submitted his name to the NFL draft advisory committee and may leave school early if he's projected to go high enough in the draft.

Evans, a preseason first-team All-American by some publications, would not say what round would be enticing enough to lure him to the NFL. If he's considered a first-rounder, his decision likely would be made for him. The decision would be tougher if he's told by the advisory committee he's more likely to go in the second or third round.

Evans was asked if he'll be back at PSU next year.

"I have no idea," he said. "We just have to see. I have to sit down and talk to some people."

Understandable

Since getting placed in the infamous doghouse earlier in the season, I’m sure he is somewhat anxious to move on. If he works out well for the scouts, I could see him being a 2nd or 3rd rounder. I get the feeling that his lackluster performance this year is a combination of still being in the doghouse and just plain sandbagging. Well, that and Project Mayhem is a manchild.

I don’t know the projected depth chart on the d line, but I gotta imagine a worst case scenario would be Maybin and Evans both going pro. What would our cupboard look like?

Who can know for sure...

The coaches obviously love Jack Crawford. Eric Lattimore is another guy they’re expecting good things from.

Big step down if Maybin and Evans both go. I actually think that Maybin is the guy more likely to stay.

FWIW...

I hope to have them BOTH back and both enjoy an outstanding & healthy year. If that happens, they’ve both will have demonstrated that their past individual “standout” years were not a fluke; but of pure athleticism & skill @ their positions. Obviously, this point (in fruition) will have provided and proven their worth & future draft status will not be in question. In one more year, both could be top 10…(among other future PSU players!)

Evans projects better as DE compared to Maybin

at the next level…Today

At this point Maybin is way to small but if put on 15 lbs and kept speed would be a nice 3-4 LB.

Long term I think they will both be good pro’s.

I see Evans like Dwight Freeny type and Maybin like Jason Taylor…but what do I know. There have been plenty of dude awesome in college that never did squat in the pros

I think we'll be okay

If at least one of Maybin or Evans stays. If both go, that lowers my expectations for next year a notch. Although there are a lot of people who think Crawford could be just as good as them.
