I've come to a harsh realization...
Whether or not we beat USC in the Rose Bowl, PSU will still continue to be the Rodney Dangerfield of the mainstream media and get "no respect."
If USC wins, you'll hear the same old "the Big Ten sucks" garbage followed by more "USC got screwed out of the title game" talk. Slobber, slobber, slurp, gulp.
However, if PSU wins, then the media will blame it on USC's being disinterested in playing in the Rose Bowl for the 4th straight year, blame it on the team's pre-game meal, blame it on distractions from Steve Sarkisian taking the Washington job, and will do everything possible to avoid giving PSU any credit for the victory.
I'm sure I'm not alone on this sentiment either...

You're not alone...
Everyone always thinks their team gets slighted worse than everyone else.
You’re not necessarily correct, but you’re not alone.
Alabama: We’re undefeated and a 10 pt underdog to Fla?
Oklahoma: Everyone is saying Texas is better than us, but look who we played out of conference, and look at how much we beat everybody by in conference!
Texas: We’re behind Oklahoma and we beat them?!
Florida: How can we be #4 in the BCS? We’re better than all these other teams…we play in the SEC!
USC: We deserve to be in National Championship contention! We’ve got one loss like the rest of them and our defense is amazing!
Utah: We’re undefeated and don’t get a whif at being the in top 2?!
Texas Tech: We’ve got the same resume as OU and Texas but we’re all the way down at #7? And everyone thinks our coach is going to bolt because our program isn’t good enough!
Penn State: We get no respect!
Boise State: So we finish undefeated yet not even a chance at a BCS game? WTF.
Ohio State: We’re better than everyone else in the entire universe. We are special. We dot our eyes better than anyone. With Prior and Wells we’re a different team than what our 2 losses show.
Should I keep going?
Everyone thinks they’re disrespected. Welcome to that harsh reality.
Check out #1...
Do you really think we won’t get respect if we beat USC? Maybe i’m naive, but I have a hard time believing that. And if we do lose, why should we get respect?
We are… the perennial underdogs — the super-power everyone underestimates. We’ve joined the 800 win club, we’re top 10 in every historically meaningful statistic in the NCAAF. We’re one of the greatest football schools ever — but we don’t get any respect or recognition.
that’s our pathos — it’s our identiy.
Let’s just be honest — people not respecting or recognizing us is a Penn State tradition. Let’s just be happy about it — accept it.
And just like another tradition, our jerseys, I like it, I’m comfortable with it, and I wouldn’t want it to ever change.
God bless you...
Its one thing when you continue to see PSU fans bitch about the fact that we are not OSU….but at least someone else sees it too!
My only reamining gripe with how OSU is treated, and how it has impacted us, is the free pass that Oklahoma gets. They have shit the bed in their fair share of big games recently (seriously, when you’re losing to the Big East you’ve got issues) but no one seems to care. Just seems odd. Hell OSU won a MNC not all that long ago.
We are not normal. We are legends.

As longhorn fans
we just laugh at OU.
we win all our bowl games and thats what matters…
(and we beat OU)

It's a template
Anything that makes the Big-10 look bad is magnified.
Anything that makes the Big-10 look good is instantly forgotten. Florida got beat at home n their bowl game against Michigan last year and no one cared.
Penn State beat Tennessee in their bowl game a couple of years ago and no one cared.
Meanwhile, SEC heavyweights lost quite a few non-conference games this year, Georgia losing to Georgia Tech being the latest, not to mention that SEC teams rarely play any OOC teams of any significance and most certainly they don’t on the road.
Oklahoma got pasted in two mind-numbingly boring NC games just a few years back and that’s forgotten. And that’s because the Big 12, where defense is a four-letter word and giving up 40 orr 50 points is just another day at the office, is SUCH a great conference.
Sportswriters and sports commentators are lazy and go with what is the template of the day, to avoid doing any actual work.
