Here is an open thread for discussing the games today. I'll throw up a thread later on for the men's basketball game at 6 PM tonight. If you can tear yourself away from football, the game against Temple will be televised on the Big Ten Network.

Army Navy Game

I love watching this game… I am an Air Force vet but you gotta hand it to army/navy for their rivalry. Sad part is that most people don’t realize how much goes into that rivalry and what it means to be part of it

Saw on the news this morning
Apparently on the day of the game the cadets run the game ball up from Anapolis to Philadelphia. That’s 125 miles! On the day of the game! They hand it off from team to team like the Olympic torch, but still. That’s amazing.
Army does the same thing running the ball from base or something, and they run it 137 miles!

I love the Army Navy game.
Another thing I love about this game: the lack of eyeblack messaging, gold teeff, and hair hanging out of the back of helmets. Kinda like us at Penn State!

I think you're right.
I didn’t quite catch it, but it may have been West Point. I know they said 137 miles though for the Cadets. Seems to me West Point is further than that from Philly. But maybe not.

Great Game
to go to . . . although lately, Navy’s been blowing out Army.
But the walk on of the cadets/midshipmen, the President switching sides at halftime, the flyovers, etc.
Really something to see. And it’s usually in Philly. I recommend it highly.
Navy has a great stadium to watch a game as well and Annapolis is a great town to spend a weekend in.
I’ve never been to West Point but I imagine that’s a great place to see a game and to tour as well.

I am obviously a big fan of our kids in uniform (I used to be one) and the rivalry has no real animosity to it and is filled with mutual respect for one another. Watching them all gather after the game and pay respect to the cadets while taking turns listening to each other’s alma maters being played is awesome.
Just a note: This holiday season if you are out traveling and you see a kid in uniform just say a little ‘thank you for your service’. You’d be surprised how little they hear that. When I see a soldier in the Starbucks in my airport I always buy their coffee and tell them thanks and you have no idea how much that means to them. I know what it was like to live dollar to dollar while willing to sacrifice so much and it means worlds to them when someone thanks them for it.

Short answer – no. They have an ACHA D2 team, and our D1 team doesn’t usually play D2 teams (lack of open space on the schedule and our coach’s desire to have a tougher regular season schedule).

Siemens is an interesting company. I did some subcontracting through them on a big Training contract they had with the postal service. They had this massive software engineer contingent from Konstanz, Deutschland and a huge team of mechanical engineers from Arlington, TX. Made for some very interesting culture intersections.

What’d I miss so far?
I spent all morning hanging curtains. Once I had them up the wife didn’t like them because they were wrinkled. So I had to take them down so she could iron them. Then I put them back up again.
After lunch I started putting up the Christmas tree. Then I realized half of my lights didn’t work. So that was a trip to Target and Home Depot. So then I watched the basketball game on and off while trying to hang lights and watch the kids. That game sucked donkey balls.
I just now got a chance to sit down and I feel like I’m going to fall asleep. But I have to put kid #2 to bed in a minute.
This Big XII game is a joke. Missouri can’t tackle. They just hit guys with their shoulder and hope he goes down. I liked the play where Oklahoma rushed just two guys and still got the sack.

I have been to that place and spent the night in their billeting while I was active. Did the same at Hood when she lived in Waco (yeah… real winner spots to move to. Then again, I was stationed in Clovis NM, Cannon AFB, for 4 years)

I qualified for Pararescue / Combat Control
for the Air Force and didn’t do it… those dudes were a different breed and it wasn’t what I thought was best for me, at the time. I never regret not doing it, but qualifying for it is something I still pat myself on the back for

I'm trying to work my way into the Physicians Assastant program
The main reason for me going SF is I’ll get most of my pre-req credits in training and they seem to take the SF over others.

Pararescue woulda done that, for me… combat control had some electronics, but not too much, and that is what my life has always been around. I really hope you knock it out of the park, man. Sorry about the Army / Navy game. There really aren’t any losers when it comes to the forces, though. We all come out better people, IMHO
