Penn State OT commit Eric Shrive = All American
Eric was selected as one of 90 players for the U.S. Army All-American bowl yesterday, but apparently he knew for over a year and kept it all quiet. Pretty big deal for the Scranton area, for Eric, his family/friends as well as for Penn State.

"I just want to go there and make a name for myself going to Penn State, and I also want to recruit some guys," he said. "I think that our class is underrated this year, and thinks that it's not as good. I just want to make a name for our class and stuff like that."

Great find on the links
I think this kid is going to be outstanding. I get the same vibe about our class this year. I think these kids are shaping up to be a good bunch. The more I look at it, the more I think our coaches find some really undervalued kids.

well Penn State gets a lot of really undervalued kids
for the same reason that Notre Dame gets a lot of really overvalued kids.
If Penn State is one of the only teams really looking at a kid, then he must not be that good according to the scouts.
If Notre Dame is looking at a kid, then he must be 5 stars.

Correlation
Which is why you only see our recruiting classes ranked top 10 in years like this one, when we turn out to be better than we’re supposed to be, and take a few soft verbals from Mich, OSU, etc.

Golden Domers love them some recruiting mags
They have that same thing going that Duke Bball does for recruits and their rankings in those mags. Whenever a kid gets a look from a school like that they automoatically get bumped. Those Dukies and Falling Irish buy those recruiting mags and subscription services up (the OMG ESS EEE SEE and Big 12 eats that crap up, too… but not to that level).
