Beat USC

Ok so I am a Wolverine fan, but I have a ton of respect for your program (which I have said numerous times on here). So please, please , please follow whatever superstitions you have and keep your Penn State Gods happy and beat the Trojans. If there is one game I want the Big Ten to win it is the Rose Bowl, and if there is a team I desperately want to see lose it is the Trojans ( conversely I want really want to see you guys win).

I'm getting sick of everybody (I live in LA) talking about how USC is going to win this game by 3 scores and that Penn State doesn't have a chance. If I recall, you guys had a pretty good defense this year (maybe not as good as USC's) and a hell of a better offense (they were held to 28 points by UCLA). and the two like opponents you both had, you guys beat while they lost to one.

I don't know what my point is, but just beat USC!!!!

I promise to do my best

But outside of pounding some extra beer and nachos on game day I don’t think I’ll be much help.

Nice Win Against Florida Last Year...

As I read earlier, it never gets mentioned when anyone talks about how bad the Big Ten sucks.

I always pull for the Big Ten – maybe because I graduated back when we were independent. I respect most of the big ten schools, although I was annoyed when you guys beat us so many years in a row…

How convenient that we never hear about that game

That game was my 2nd favorite bowl win last year (after PSU’s of course)

I hate UF.......

as much as the next guy……..but I think people ignored the UF-Mich game possibly due to the notion that UF lost 4 Jr’s to the NFL draft the previous year alone and was starting 4 Sophomores and 3 Freshman on Defense against Michigan. I hate to say it, but had those 4 guys not come out early we would probably be on the verge of a 3 peat for Florida this year. Couple that with the Sr. laden team Michigan showed up with and you have Michigan beating Florida. I loved it, but at the end of the day it was a bunch of upper classmen from Michigan beating a bunch of under classmen from Florida.

Still sweet

Just like when we destroyed ND last year, even though their team was pretty crappy.
It still feels good.

no kidding, that was a great game.

We just needed a couple players, a couple people to buy in to the fact and we were able to do it. --A.Q. Shipley

Our defense is better than USC's.

We are way more disciplined, and we don’t have any defensive letdowns like Stanford or Oregon State on our schedule.

Outside of the 4th quarter against Iowa...

….but I guess that is better than two whole games.

Good point dontcallmescooter….every forgets how Michigan did beat Florida (in Florida I must add) last year. I suppose it was because Tim Tebow forgot to wear his Navorro Bowman PJ’s the night before the game.

WE ARE.......PENN STATE!

Here's a question

Rank these four teams -

Coastal Carolina, Temple, Washington, Washington State

USC’s schedule is not that impressive. They played more bowl teams than PSU (6 to 4) but I think you can argue that their lows were lower than PSU’s

by InScoresOfOtherGames on Dec 9, 2008 1:40 PM EST reply actions

Its a first, but

1. Temple
2. —
3. —
#SHIT. CC, Wazzou, Washington

And anorther thing

“Greatest Defense Ever”
faced washington, washington state, sacks for free Arizona State, Oregon UCLA and Oregon on their fourth QBs, and UVA, who while they got hot midseason, scored a combined 19 points against Duke and Richmond.

USC fan here

I am a resident of L.A., and can honestly say that I never said anything about running away with the Rose Bowl by 3 scores. I happen to think that it is a great matchup, and that the game will be close.

The Michigan fan here seems to think that 28 against ucla is some sort of badge of shame. If you look at the stats ucla has a defense ranked in the top 35 in the NCAA, and if he watched the game he would have also seen that the bruins benefitted from 3 missed field goals from our kicker who is usually accurate with those things.

I look forward to watching your boys square off against us in the Rose Bowl.

I merely said it

to point out that the USC offense is not very strong. I will grant you that UCLA had a decent defense, but lets be honest, they lost 59-0 in the Rose Bowl to BYU. I watched them play Arizona and their was nothing impressive about that defense that day either.

by Lostincali on Dec 10, 2008 12:10 AM EST up reply actions

methinks there's something correlated

with “top defense” and the offense of the rest of the conference. I didn’t honestly watch a lot of Pac-10 football outside of USC, so I can’t really say if the offenses were really just bad (from what I saw that’s how it seemed, though).

I did watch plenty of Big 12 football, though, and it is similar to how everyone thinks that the Big 12 has all these top offenses, when if you watch the games it clearly looks like there’s just a lot of terrible defenses.

Of course it is hard to really pick out if the Big 12 receivers are just so good that they are untackleable (by really poor form defensive tacklers who run by their man and try a flying arm tackle of the shins) that they make the defenses look bad in comparson, but again, from watching the games, it looked a lot more like defensive players being out of position, missing their assignments, and incapable of tackling even an undersized high school wideout.

Bruins lost 59-0 in Provo

and their QB turned it over 5 times i think. Yes I agree with you that the USC offense has been spotty at times. But I wouldn’t take our defense lightly simply because some of the teams on our schedule were less than competitive.

by frak on Dec 10, 2008 11:46 AM EST up reply actions

You know what...

I got confused with the Fresno state game, when UCLA was more or less advertising the chance for people from Fresno to come down and watch them beat the Bruins in the RoseBowl…
And if you look at my original post I gave you guys credit for a good defense.
My intent wasn’t to insult USC, but to say Penn State will not be a push over.
