Michigan + homecoming = night game? or whiteout?
Since we all seem to be in a debating mood right now....
I've been wondering for a while now: will the Michigan game this year, which is easily the biggest home game of the 2008 season be called a 8pm game? All other homecomings I can remember seem to always be at 3:30. Why? I really don't know, so if anyone knows why that is, i'd appreciate being enlightened.
Also, do you think a whiteout will be declared since it will be homecoming? Then if there would be a game to do another white house, michigan would be the game to do it.
Your thoughts?

I can't remember a Homecoming night game, I don't think it's ever come up before.

night game possible...
VaTech vs Bos Coll
Kansas vs OK (i doubt kansas will have the year they had last tho)
LSU vs South Carolina
Other than that you got games like OSU vs Mich St. and Georgia Tech vs Clemson.

Jesse's right... TV will dictate
I don't think 3:30 games and homecoming have any correlation at all. There are a lot of variables that come into play with kickoff scheduling. The Primetime slot is usually one of the best match-ups of the week with a lot of hype surrounding it.

Homecoming Opponents
We usually schedule a lesser Big Ten team for our homecoming - I think this is the first for as long as I can remember that a perennial Top 25 was scheduled for Homecoming.
Sure there were a few surprise teams that became Top 25 homecoming opponents during the season, but I don't remember PSU scheduling one that would be a preseason Top 25 team.

hmmm both good points
However, when it comes down it to, its all about the money. Night games bring in larger audiences and greater exposure for the football program and the school. Therefore I wouldn't be surprised if penn state just goes with what would be most profitable.

very true
one thing i was thinking about however is the idea of a stadiun whiteout (whitehouse) for michigan since it really is the only home game deserving of one. if the athletic dept wanted to do one, they would have to plan it far in advance (like the nd game) for it to work, no matter how good michigan is. but then again, should we even have another whitehouse? should they be saved for just really big out of conference home games?

Agree and disagree
I disagree that the Michigan is the only home game disserving of the whiteout. 3 of the 4 conference home games are with teams we lost to last year. Obviously Michigan is the big name but Illinois is certainly no slouch and MSU our so called "rival" usually plays us tough as well.
It's a tough thing with this whiteout. We definitely don't want to over kill something that brings a special atmosphere but I think every game, including the Costal Carolinas of the world, is as important as the next. This is no where more evident than in College Football.
