Drinking the Kool-aid...
Is it just me, or is this 2008 team shaping up very similarly to the 2005 team?... We'll have the spread offense back in full-effect, a dominating D-line, and a real shot to compete for the Big 10 title. Call me a kool-aid drinker, but I can't help but be giddy with excitement for this season.
I don't know if it's just my Penn State bias, but I really can't see Wisconsin living up to a top-15 ranking where many pollsters have them, and I really believe it is the other way around for this PSU team. At this point I am over my concern at the QB position (with such a strong O-line, Devlin or Clark will have the extra second or two to help them avoid making inexperienced decisions under pressure), and the loss of Sean Lee, while still upsetting, shouldn't impact our defense as much as much people think (except on a leadership level).
This team is very skilled and pretty deep at most positions, and I'm as excited as a 6-year old on Christmas eve.

I'm there as well...
...”but”...@ this point last year, I also had high-hopes. I read too much into the preseason magazines, the Blogs, the A.M. thing and his “break-out’/Sr. year stuff…same with Austin…and then the injuries: Koroma, Josh, King…which was not known much until later…and a few more on D-line.
I was thinking a 1 or 2 loss season.
There are differences between ‘07 and stepping into ‘08…and I am trying to contol myself!

And...
Boom goes the dynamite.
Wisconsin is addressing their own issues at QB this season. The hefty lefty transfer from Kanas State apparently is the front runner. Bad news for us is that Wisconsin has about 4 solid running backs including hot name of the week redshirt Freshman John Clay. Good thing we have plenty of D-Line depth because we are going to need it under the lights in Madison.
I don’t want to sound like JoePa but our QB’s will be “fine”. Clark is going to get the keys to the HD. If he struggles early, they will slowly work in the Pat Devlin package. Either way, both guys will get plenty of reps in the early games specially against Costal Carolina, Syrcause and Temple.
CB and S play against Purdue, Ohio State, and Indiana is very important.

Wisconsin's QB
Wisconsin is going to have the same quarterback they’ve had for the last sixteen years, you know….ol’ what’s his name…that big cheese eating white kid, who runs the option like a full back and goes 9-18 passing every week. You know, that guy.

Indiana
I know the secondary looked bad against them last year, but James Hardy is gone.

two quarterbacks
I was watching the Top Ten Quarterback Controversies on the NFL Network. While Penn State isn’t in a controversiy, the phrase “if yor team has two quarterbacks, you have no quarterbacks” keeps popping up. I hope this isn’t the case with us this year.

2 QB's
When you’re going to use a 2QB’s system I think it’s important for each to know their role and understand they need to do what they can to help PSU win, PERIOD. This means play smart and with-in themselves. Probably the most difficult thing for 2QB’s is to not compete for the starting role by taking unnecessary risks. I think if they understand the system and their role in the system. If they can do this I think they can be successful and complement each other.

while i’m excited about how good this team is, i’m concerned about the schedule.
wiscy has one of the best big ten schedules of 2008. For Wiscy, OSU, Ill and Penn State are all at home. Michigan is on the road but early.
Penn State, on the other hand, has OSU and Wiscy on the road and that brutal october we’ve been talking about. And get this: Ohio State and Michigan both have bye weeks right before their games with PSU…the Big Ten sucks.
If we can suck up the nerve to simply play our game on the road like we do at home, then I won’t be concerned (I hope we learned our lesson last season against Michigan and Ill).

Schedule
I was going to say the same thing. The schedule set up perfectly in 2005. This year, to quote my man Borat, “not so much!”. But, outside of Ohio State, I think every game is winnable if we play well. Purdue is, like, whatever man. We shut them out in West Lafayette with a worse team in 2006. Wisconsin will be tough no doubt but I think we match up well with them. That game is huge and I hope our boys come ready to play. Last year’s team had no leadership, no heart. I think this year will be different. Ohio State….we’d have to play out of our minds and they’d have to shit the bed. But, anything’s possible.
Oh, and Ohio State and Michigan don’t have byes the week before they play us. I don’t know how that rumor started but I’ve read it in a bunch of places. I’ve even read that JoePa said it at an alumni event. Michigan plays Toledo and Ohio State plays at Michigan State.
