The BTN
It used to be on Dish Network which is what I have now. But then it disappeared one day so now I don’t get it. Anybody know what happened there?
I’ll be moving soon and you can bet the new house will have Direct TV.

dish network
I just read on another blog that it is still available on dish, you have to have a level above the basic package to get it. My only question is can my Directv DVR manage to hold 24 hours of the big ten network – time will tell.
Boom goes the dynamite.

BTN
Showed the Rose Bowl from the 1994 season. It was eye opening. There are a lot of myths floating about that team and that game.

Off the top of my head
1. That Fran Ganter could coach.
2. That Oregon sucked
3. The offense was unstoppable
4. The Defense was “meh”

1. Fran Ganter could not coach his way out of plastic bag
The 1994 offense was exceptionally talented. It’s coaching was pedestrian. Watch the Rose Bowl Game again and you’ll see what I mean.
Oregon put 8 and 9 guys in the box the entire game, and they just kept hammering away with Carter. Very few audibles, no adjustment in the game plan. Carter, over and over and over and over again.
All the coaches did was wait for somebody to make a play. They had the players ot make that work in 1994.

2. Oregon was good.
Penn State was lucky to win that game.
Their quarterback was a fifth year senior and a four year starter, who set a Rose Bowl record for passing yards in a game.
Their defense gave up Carters run, a long pass to Joe Jurevicius, and a special teams play. Coupled with a long interception return, that’s 28 of Penn State’s points. They stopped us. See number 3 below.
Their kicker missed three kicks, and they threw two bad interceptions. They ran out of time at the end of the third quarter. The officials totally blew a call on a clear fumble by Carter deep in Penn State territory.
Their coach was Rich Brooks (beat LSU with Kentucky a few months ago), theti offensive coordinator was Mike Belotti, who is their current (and quite successful) head coach.
A couple of breaks go Oregon’s way they beat us.

3. The offense was stoppable.
Freddie Scott did nothing, Bobby Engram did nothing important, Joe Jurevicius’ (who was a punter at the time) catch was a glorified Hail Mary. Kyle Brady did pretty much nothing. All of this happened while Oregon had 9 guys in the box. Oregon’s corners shut our receivers down in man coverage for the entire game. Stoppable.
Yes, Carter had about 150 yards rushing, but about 100 of it was on two carries. He fumbled twice, lost one and we only kept the other on a terrible call by the official. Stoppable.
Penn State had third longs the entire games and no sustained drives. They capitalized on a long kick return and interception return. Which is good, but not unstoppable.

4. The Defense was meh
The Defense won the Rose Bowl game.
I always thought that Sandusky unofficially retired after the 1986 season. He unretired that day.
The zone coverage got two key interceptions that stopped Oregon drives that could have lost us the game. The blitz packages at the end of the game were god damn brilliant. Oregon had a chance to win that game until late, but could never break through the unit that was supposed to be the weak link.
Consider the fact that three of Penn State’s touchdown drives lasted less than 90 seconds, and that the offense had at least half a dozen three and outs on offense. The Defense was always on the field, and that holds for the entire season as well.

Myths???
We all know that offense was great and the defense was “meh” at best….so what myths can there possibly be?
by Screen Name 20 on Jun 13, 2008 12:03 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
the only myth I know of is that we were not national champions
Joepa and I know that myth is false. That team kicked everyone’s ass they played.

Comcast
is getting the Big Ten Network in August…
most of the numbers have been worked out and they are just ironing out the details. Once Comcast comes in, everyone else will fall in behind them.
I can’ believe i’m missing the Joe Crispin game!

I believe Nationwide
the move was set up when Comcast bought into FSN San Franciso.
I think it is still going to be on the sports tier, but what is $5 a month when you get the most Big Ten coverage in the country.

BTN
There is one downside to having “Penn State Day” available on BTN: The penn state commercial. How friggin long are we gonna have that abomination? We have a network where millions of people are watching each day, yet we have a five year old commercial that’s bad to begin with.
