Another year without student tickets
I'm 1-3 now... got tickets my sophomore year ( last year ).
This is completely disheartening, especially with rumors that student tickets are going to be binded to student id cards.
Now i'll have to compete with alumni to get tickets into the game (off ebay/etc)
Not to mention i had to get up at 4:30 am to try to buy the tickets ( out in denver for the summer)
/end of ranting

don't worry dude
I’m in the same boat today. but the id card system isn’t being put into place until next year at the earliest so we should still be able to scalp like in years past.

People like you guys
It’s people like you guys that make me wish we had a better system. My boss and a few other people who i call friends, only bought tickets so they could sell them for more. I hate hate hate people like this and always give them a piece of my mind. This is my last year of football games for i’m a senior and will be leaving in December for sunny Key West, Fla. I’m in no way a rat, but i would definetly rat people out who are selling their tickets for more. I dont have a problem with people asking for maybe 10% more, no problem, whatever, but some people are asking like $800 for the season. Thats where my problem is.
Sorry to hear you guys didn’t get tickets. this only adds fuel to my fire when i yell at my “friends” who feel they need to take advantage of people who didn’t get them.
Please though to anyone reading this, don’t be upset with anyone other than the ticket system. this morning there was a girl on facebook and her status was: i didn’t get football tickets so F the football team they suck, and Joe Paterno is over rated anyways. There’s no need for that, and those people shouldn’t go to football games anyways if they feel like that. anyways, i think thats all i have to say…. sorry guys

My Girlfriend
was in the same boat last year. Somehow she couldn’t get through and was especailly pissed because it was her senior year. I’ve heard some bitchouts before but man whoever was on the other end of whatever line she called probably went home and cried themselves to sleep.

Missed Out
as well, but this is my only reason for keeping a job with the auxiliary police, hopefully I’ll get some in stadium action. I heard that ebay already has them going for 1000. Its sad really. Hopefully iIll be able to at least see one game my senior year..

outrageous!
It’s not my intention to make things worse for you guys, but I think it should be known that there is some POS on ebay selling senior football tickets for, outrageously… $1500!!! What kind of person deprives devoted Penn State students the opportunity to see their favorite team play and for that matter, jack fifteen hundred dollars from any hard working person…? It’s pretty disgusting.

Feel bad for underclassmen
With such a large number of underclassmen at UP alone, the rush for football tickets tomorrow morning is going to be even more insane, I’m sure. Strangely, senior tickets weren’t too in demand—they only sold out in about 10 hours.

Wow...
What a difference a few years make…It was only a few years ago that I was a senior (‘03) and all I had to do was snail-mail a ticket request form (with check included) back by a certain date…no worries. The only year I was worried about not getting tickets was my freshman year at UP. I suppose it also helped that I attended PSU during the Dark Years.

An Alternative Solution
Back in the day I used to follow Phish. They had a mail order system that allowed their better fans to get seats to the shows, the way they kept it to eh best fans was kind of ingenious. They made the mail order process a real hassel.
You had to get a money order, no checks, no credit cards.
You had to have a seperate money order for each show.
The Order had to be postmarked on three specific dates, that you could only find in the newsletter.
Each ticket Order had to be sent in seperately.
It was a huge pain in the ass. But if you followed through with it, you pretty much always got tickets. The Steelers used to have a similar system that was only open to people on the season ticket waiting list, but now they opened it up on ticketmaster, just like PSU, and the tickets sell out in 10 minutes, mostly to scalpers, just like PSU. It sucks.

Phish Phans...
I’m surprised that Phish phans were able to follow that process.

Believe me
It was hard. Especially in the state that most Phish fans speat their days.

"...their better fans..."
Hysterical. I saw 32 shows between ‘96 and the end without mail-ordering once. Does that make me an inferior fan?

From the Spring 1988 edition of Doniac Schvice;
Dear Phish,
My friends and I argue over who is the best Phish phan. I say it’s me because I’ve seen the most shows, my friend disagrees, he says that he is a better phan because he has the most tapes. Who is correct? Jim.
Jim, neither of you is correct, the biggest (and best) Phish fan is determined solely on the basis of how many shows you mail ordered over the past 36 months. There are no exceptions to this rule. Mike.
There you have it, definitive proof. You’re a second tier fan at best.
Or….
DUH, it doesn’t matter how you got the friggin’ tickets, it matters that you went. The point was that mail order was targeted at dedicated Phish fans, as opposed to casual ones, and it made it easier for them to get seats for shows like New Years and Halloween to the exclusion of people who would otherwise get them and scalp them at a premium price.
Similarly, if it took a little more leg work to get the Penn State tickets, more dedicated fans would take the time deal with the process, rather than the ticketmaster system which is essentially a lottery.

I know man
Didn’t mean to be confrontational. I just read a lot of the “headier than thou” talk on the interwebs and always find it amusing. Didn’t realize you were referencing the Schvice. I never had the cash to mail order, but I always made sure I had a ticket before the lights went down.
Anyway…WE ARE!

The refrence to the Schvice
was wholly made up, although if asked that question I imagine Mike’s [Gordon] response would have been similarly out of left field.
Anyway, it’s all good. I saw them 20 times myself, but about 10 of them were from Thanksgiving – NYE 1997 (Worchester [2], State College [1], Cleveland [1], Albany [2], Washington DC1, NYC [3]). Good times.

that the junior section tickets “officially” sold out in thirty minutes.
i kept on refreshing hoping and sending in new requests hoping someone else botched up their ticket order, but no luck. at like 5:30 am they told me it was sold out.=/

Junior tickets vs. senior tickets
My friend is a senior and she forgot tickets went on sale monday…. yea, a “devoted” fan, FORGOT so she got on ticket master yesterday at 1pm and got them no problem. I heard conflicting reports today. I got mine no problem, but tried to get some for a friend at 7:08 and they were gone. I also heard they were gone at 7:03 for juniors. hmmmmm f*ck up by Penn State and not issue enough tickets? last year is my last semester in college and they have me as a junior. i think most of the “seniors” are in the juniors block, hence why junior tickets went so fast. I dont think there were a lot of people in the senior bracket. i’ll be interested to see how fast soph and fresh tickets go…. we shall see.

Juniors vs. Seniors
Well, I believe that athletics used the same system of credits in their definition of “junior” and “senior,” so I don’t think that’s the sellout issue. It probably has something to do with the fact that the rising junior class is the largest class in Penn State history.
In the athletic department’s defense, they did allot 28% of the student section to the juniors—the largest proportion of any class.

I dont know how fast your tickets sold out,
but I know last year, when I was trying to get mine, my internet kept making me refresh the page. But by refreshing the page, I kept moving further done the line; so while I logged in at 7:01, people who logged in at 7:30 were ahead of me because I had to keep refreshing. For the system, I don’t like how the branch campuses get all the tickets. I think they should get a different package than the UP students. I have a friend in the Behrend campus, and he said he knows at least 10 kids how had tickets last year and they only went to 2 games, and the other games, they didn’t even sell those tickets to students. So that’s like 30 tickets burnt right there. What I would really like to see is a system similar to West Virginia’s. I’m not sure exactly how it works, but they dont sell season tickets. Every student gets like 1-3 tickets to start off, and I guess they swipe their ID or something, so the athletic department could see who attends the games. Therefore, later in the season when they’re giving out tickets, which is usually for their bigger games, they give them to the diehard fans who actually attend the games

Well it needs to be fixed
PSU hosts the most intimidating student section in the nation and for that reason this process should get a hard look at by someone who can fix this maddness

Student Tix
I read an article that said Junior tickets sold out in 90 seconds but it’s really not that big of a deal if you didn’t get tickets. You can get almost every game for face value or less, especially if you wait till right before kick off to buy them. The only game you’ll have to shell out and real cash for is Michigan. Hopefully PSU will not drop any games before then but if they do buy your Michigan ticket right after they lose, that’s when they’re the cheapest. Anyone who pays $1000 on ebay is a fool. It sucks you have to go through the extra hassle of scalping but it’s not the end of the world.

The ID System
I think this will really help the situation, and people who are left out aren’t actually shut out of the stadium…in fact you could argue it benefit them.
People who are trying to make a quick $1k are just as motivated as any good PSU fan to get their tickets, and between the 40k plus students I’m sure there are quite a few of these people who are a lot more interested in selling the tickets than using them. With the ID system these people will simply disappear because there is no way to turn a profit.
In addition, if you are one of those left out, the only price you can be charged for a ticket is face.
The only problem I can see is a situation where students will only transfer their tickets if they are given some kind of kickback, but if PSU wants the system to work, this type of thing should be easy to find, and it only takes one or two people getting busted for the scare tactic to discourage the practice.
For those of you left out this year I agree with everyone above, that really sucks, the current system is foolishness…

The system
I hate to say it but there is no system that will ever totally solve the problem. The fact is that there just is not enough seating to handle the demand that they have, no matter what system PSU uses there is always going to be people left out, and those people are always going to be unhappy. Unless PSU can throw another 40,000 seats onto beaver stadium they’re going to continue to disappoint some of their students

well?
michigan is expanding their stadium… why not PSU as well?
(though i’m sure this won’t happen for a long time=/ )

Michigan
is not expanding as much as they are renovating. If they do add more seats, I don’t believe that it will be much more than a few hundred, but I could be wrong. Regardless, the bulk of that project is with respect to the the press box an luxury suits.

West Virginia System
My friend that was my room mate in the military was telling me about the system they go by down there. For each even they attend other than football they get points. Basketball, baseball, softball, etc. The students with the most points, get priority. So this could be a way to get attendance up at all the events. I think if students have more of a vested interest in football than other sports, they might go to an event, and actually maybe like it! and then get priority over those students who don’t do anything with any other sports. I know that i go to about 60% of the basketball games and maybe 2 softball games to see a girl that plays for another softball team, but other than that… i don’t go to anything. if it paid off for me, i might go to a few softball games and such! it would be worth a shot!

Well?
Michigan took seats out of their stadium to make it more accessible for the handicapped. They will eventually add more seats but they are not adding a ton of them. PSU cannot add enough seats to accommodate all the students that want tickets and even if they could add the exact number of seats that they would need for every student to have a ticket, they would give most of those seats to alumni because they can sell those seats for much more.
