Saturday Viewing Preference

NBC recently renewed its television contract with notre dame 'football', and its rotund and equally righteous leader, Charlie Weiss. It was rhetorically asked in some BSD reader comments 'what else are they gonna show, cockfighting?', which got me thinking....That's not a bad idea. I sure would prefer that over yet another holier-than-thou piece on touchdown jesus. They could even put little jerseys on the roosters so you'd have more at stake in knowing which one to root for. What do you all think?

my father and i TiVo all of the ND games....

I guess my post had two points

[1] NBC had to give Notre Dame a deal because they don’t have anything else to show. On the other hand, do you think ABC/ESPN would give them that deal? There is no chance they would pay money televise the Army game to a National Audience, just to make sure that they get to show the USC game every other year. Frankly, I’m surprised that NBC didn’t drive a harder bargain in negotiations because of this, where the hell else is Notre Dame going to go? They didn’t disclose the terms of the new deal, but I bet it’s less.

Further, it’s Notre Dame that has to play suicide games now, they can’t schedule CC because NBC doesn’t want it. Now they are playing Wash. State in San Antonio, and god knows who else in Orlando. Increasingly, it’s NBC who is making the Irish’s schedule.

[2] ND seems to be becoming increasingly isolated from the rest of college football. One vote or not, the guy representing one school does not have as much clout as the guy who represents 11 or 12 when it comes to making decisions for the BCS. Further, there is certainly no motivation to make a decision that helps them.

Obviously the folks at ND still have a lot of influence. But for how much longer? Eventually, people are going to get sick of being held up by some Catholic Priest running a school with 2,500 students and a mediocre football team. It will get harder for them to get the Big Ten/Big East games they rely on to fill out their schedule (Rutgers turned them down just a few months ago).

I think that ND’s plan is going to hurt them in the long run. But hey, good luck.

Bring on the cockfighting!!!

I’m glad somebody is finally bringing attention to the great sport of cockfighting! My wife’s family owns a nice cockfighting pit in Orocovis, Puerto Rico. I’ve gotta go with cockfighting on this one due to the family ties!! :-)

That's gotta be true

Having never seen a cockfighting pit myself, I still gotta believe if you’re gonna have one, it should be nice. Turns out our founding fathers were big into the sport:

Nope, I haven't been to one before

Personally the only time I would ever endorse cockfighting would be if it was either ND football or cockfighting. If I was somehow to end up at a fight the next time I’m down in PR, I’ll be sure let everyone know all of the horrific details about one rooster tearing apart another rooster. JK

I agree. Cockfighting is a sport that deserves a nice venue!

If you’ve ever driven around Puerto Rico, you’ll begin to notice these large domed buildings all over the place. Those are where the cockfights are held. Think of a mini-Bryce Jordan Center that seats maybe a thousand at most. Cockfighting is nothing more than MMA with roosters. LOL! ;-)

I doubt cockfighting gets too many hits. I would have to imagine lesbians, hot, sex, & threesome would draw more hits than cockfighting. Now if you could only get somebody to create a post with those words in it, your hits would really go through the roof. Oops, I guess I just did! ;-)

PS I can see it now, some schmuck is going to be out there looking for sex in a hot threesome with some lesbians and he’s going to wind up a PSU fan! LOL!
