Penn State Ranked #1
In tailgating....
http://www.tailgatermonthly.com/funstuff/schools.html
It's an interesting list. Of course the SEC gets a ton of love. I'm a little surprised by USC, I've never seen them mentioned as a great place to tailgate. Of the places on there, I'd be most interested in tailgating at Ole Miss, Wisconsin, Colorado, Tennessee, okay all of them really. Another place I've heard has great tailgating is Washington. But that's mainly reserved for the rich alums who tailgate on the water.

USC...
As a Penn State alum who has lived in LA for the last year, it really surprises me that USC made this list. Tailgating here is a different animal than at PSU: there is very little open space, not nearly as much comradery and family atmosphere, the campus is an absolute dump, and fans seem more interested in looking good than supporting their football team. Not to mention the Colliseum is a less-than-ideal venue for a college football game.

USC
My guess is they felt like they HAD to include SOMEBODY on the west coast. So just pick the best team available as a default. I would bet Oregon is better even though I’ve never been to either. Big City folk don’t know how to tailgate. They probably drink champaign and eat gourmet cheese at USC.

Another Reason
for their vote, and not unjustly so, has got to be the ubiquity of dropdead gorgeous SoCal hot-TAYs! I’d consider it a good tailgate if I’m jammed in some tight quarters, with low-level stranger-morale, but with a plethora of these beauts strolling about.

Oregon
If anybody has Cox cable and gets the “MOJO” channel (which has random shows on it), they had quite a few 30 minute shows about college football. They would visit a school and talk about their traditions, campus, tailgating and games. Oregon looked like a pretty good place to tailgate…nice scenery and a pretty good looking stadium in the background with a huge yellow “O” on the outside. The people seemed a little weird tho…..damn hippies.
PSU had a 30 minute slot as well, where they showed the great tailgate, campus and the 2005 OSU game. Pretty cool. I hope some of you were able to catch this show.

Mojo's great...
Maybe it’s my short attention span, but I love the sheer variety of 1/2 hour shows.
I missed the Football series, hope they re-run.

Sometimes...
A stupid little list like this makes you realize how lucky we really are. If you ever get a chance to take somebody to theor first Penn State game, I really recomend it.
I actually converted Pitt fans at the Florida International game last year.

I have mentioned before....
that my fiance is a Georgia grad. The people in SEC land swear that they have the best tailgating but she was in for a suprise when I took her to her first PSU game. We went to the game at South Bend two years ago and had a great time tailgating with other PSU fans (too bad the game sucked ass)! Her second game was even better (cause we won). We went down to Tampa for the Outback Bowl against Tennessee. We were riding around Tampa with some gator and dawg fans when Les decided to yell “We Are” at some PSU people downtown. All the SEC peple in the car were so impressed that half the street yelled back “Penn State”. After the game was even better….we had the “We are” chants going full force leaving the stadium. I heard more than one Tennessee fan grumble… we know…we know. BTW….I think we only heard Rocky Top….twice the whole day. AWESOME!
The only thing I will say about SEC tailgates (and this goes probably for every school except Vandy) is that the hottie factor is 10x what you see in State College! Gotta love those southern girls!
I thought only safeties played 15 yards off the ball?

Nothing is hotter
then big baggy sweatshirts and beanie caps.
You show me a woman that can dominate at Beer Pong and Washers….that is a hottie.

"We went down to Tampa for the Outback Bowl against Tennessee. "
I was not at all impressed with Tennessee’s tailgating efforts at that game, which surprised me because they sound like a good time at their home games.
The weather was pretty crappy, but us Nittany Lions are used to that.
The best were all the random “WE ARE” chants in the concourse of the stadium before the game. Everyone wearing blue and white is going nuts showing the other fans what WE are made of. Same thing happened at the Orange Bowl the year before. Bowl games rule.

Yea...
At home games, being loud and crazy is really the students job. I’m not saying that you shouldn’t stand, chear, participate, etc., but the kids are really in charge of making the noise. It makes you a little but more complacent.
At a bowl game, all you have are the people who made the trip. I was in San Antonio in January, we were badly out numbered, but what fans we had kind of looked at each other and tacitly agreed, that it was up to us to represent. We were outnumbered at leat 10 to 1, but when A&M ran plays at the Penn State end, we had an effect. I’m thinking specifically about the fourth and goal option play.
I thought we did all right.
