Why not, indeed.

TSN's Mike Hayes brings up the ugly little question that won't go away.
Do you know how long it takes a working man to save for Penn State tickets and a room at the Days Inn on S. Pugh? Just remember this, Coach Paterno - this rabble you're talking about, they do most of the working and paying and living and dying in the Penn State community. Well, is it too much to have them work and pay and live and die close to home in a couple of decent seats every other year? Anyway, my father didn't think so. People were human beings to him, but to you, a warped, frustrated old man, they're cattle. Well, in my book, he died a much richer man than you'll ever be.

your absolutly right
We should schedule a game that neither get’s us the money that supports the rest of our Athletic teams nor helps us in the rankings. Sounds like a winner.

Personally
I want Pitt and Rutgers back on the schedule. All this talk of the Big East rising again at Penn State’s expense is pissing me off.

Hater Game
I really wish we could get someone like Pitt or Rutgers back on the schedule every year. Pitt for me – I hate Pitt. There’s no one that we really have a history with currently – MSU does just not do it for me. We need a bragging rights game.

I Can Respect Your Position...
...but I can’t respect how you presented it. If you read the article, you’d see it was pretty fair to both sides. He didn’t rip Joe, nor did he rip Pitt. It was a solid article. What I don’t understand is how you, a supposed Penn State fan, could read that, and come here and simply rip on Joe Paterno. There is bad blood here coming from more people than just Joe Paterno.
There were some common ground proposals in there which I thought were reasonable, but that doesn’t seem to matter to you. You’re the kind of person who is going to rip Joe every chance you get, even if it isn’t fair to him.
Whatever.

I don't think that is a Penn State fan...isn't it a UM fan?
Syracuse game is solid for this year. The Temple game is what pisses me off, I couldn’t possibly care less about that game unless Temple beats us. If we are GOING to play that game, then there is no reason for Coastal Carolina to be on the schedule. If you insist on SCHEDULING FREAKING TEMPLE, than give us a Syracuse, Pitt as well as someone like ND, Virginia Tech, ND, Alabama. Replace Coastal Carolina with a BC, Nebraska, or even MD [recruiting :)] and you’ll have my respect.
An upcoming series against Virginia doesn’t excite me, I consider that on the BC, Nebraska, MD level. If Virginia had “TECH” on the end of it I would be doing somersaults sp? I think we should play Pitt, but only IF & when they are willing to pay retributions for the ridiculous amount of home games they have received in the Pitt/Penn State series. If they are not willing to do a long term deal that gives us the benefit of playing at Beaver Stadium more often than not, why bother?
I don’t know if this was proposed or not, but a long term deal that resulted in the winner of 2 out of 3 continuing to host 2 of the 3 games would be optimal, regardless of what a bunch of suits say regarding how hard it is to schedule. You can get a freaking Temple, Coastal Carolina, Youngstown State, FIU, Buffalo a week prior to playing the game…that is kind of the point isn’t it, shows their respective worth on the D-1A college football landscape. :(
Alabama coming on the schedule in ‘09 & ‘10 or ‘10 & ‘11 [can’t remember which] excites me and should help a bit with recruiting, considering we will actually be playing a living, breathing football team.

Syracuse.........
is 7 – 28 over the last 3 seasons. I don’t know if that qualifies as solid.

When.....
we put Syracuse on the schedule, they were not nearly as terrible as they are today. Costal Carolina has no business being on the schedule.
I have no problem playing Temple. They are willing to give us 3 for 1s.
When we start to play Pitt and Rutgers again, at least we don’t have to listen to the media asking questions why we don’t play. It should help recruiting in Western PA. It will show kids that those schools can promise you early playing time and thats great, but Penn State is on another level

Can somebody........
please explain the sense behind making the schedules 6 year out ? We put Syracuse on the schedule in 2002. I don’t understand what drives that process. 2001 was the last year Syracuse had a winning record, they go into the toilet and here we are.

Same reason we start recruiting high school sophomores now
Nobody wants to be stuck with scheduling the leftovers I guess. It does seem funny since basketball has to fill out 12 non-conference games and typically does it just one year in advance.

But what doesn't make sense...
is how the writer of the article knocks us for our OOC schedule when Pitt plays:
1. The same Syracuse team we play
2. Buffalo – the equivilent of Temple on or schedule
3. Bowling Green – who lost their bowl game 63-7
OK, so scheduling Coastal Carolina is ridiculous, but look on the bright side: it’s a guaranteed win, and at least the tickets for that game will be cheap – leaving more money for beer!
I bleed Blue and White.

Ya know
I kind of look at Coastal Carolina like a Pirate game. A nice relaxing day.
The sun will be out, the grills will be going, the frehman won’t have put on the 15 yet, the band will play the fight song, the drum major will do a flip, I’ll drink a half a bottle of Bacardi, and life will be good. In my opinion that’s worth $50, no questions asked.
Not every game has to be clash of the titans, we’ll have lots of chances to play close football games this year.

If only it cost you $50
Figure the NLC donation adds on another $50. Parking is $10. So really, taking in Coastal Carolina costs you over $100 not including your gas and tailgate supplies. Pretty steep for a game on a level just above the Blue White game.

Depends on the math
I count my NLC donation as an up front fee to complain all season long.
There is no way in hell I would pay close to $50 for a C.C. ticket, of course if you have season tickets you have no choice, but then you get Michigan for the same price too. Pretend you paid $75 for Michigan and $25 for C.C.
My point is, I like having a game or two that I don’t have to stress about. It’s not like your not going to have any fun at all at a Penn State game in August.

These game almost always make it to general sale.
It’s one of the few games you can purchase without a NLC donation.

Coastal Carolina game "just a level above the Blue-White game"...
Can we really say that with all honesty? I don’t even know if the Coastal Carolina/Penn State game will flow as well as the B/W game, if it will be as competitive, if the execution will be all that much better. I say this with 95% certainty, I BELIEVE that the White team could beat Coastal Carolina.
Give me Pat Devlin & Stephfon Green/Brent Carter
Give me the second string OL – who? :) McCormick, Troutman, Lucian, Marks, Eliades
Give me WRs Derek Moye, Graham Zug, Brett Brackett, AJ Price
Give me TE Jon Ditto
second or third string DL – Latham, McEowen, Okoli, Maybin
second or third string LBs – Stupar, Zordich, Mauti
Chaz Powell, Cedric Jeffries [S/LB], Drew Astorino, Devin Fentress, Willie Harriot and I believe we win
I would think that Penn State would beat Coastal Carolina by 21-28 points with those players and those players only.

At least with Coastal Carolina
You get to see the Blue Band come out of the tunnel. That’s worth 50 bucks right there.
