ESPNEWS Altoona Mirror
ESPNEWS is reporting that according to an Altoona Mirror report current Penn State recruits have been told that a member of the current staff will replace Joe Pa when he retires. I could not find any story confirming this on the Altoona Mirror website but it would definitely be interesting if true. Initial thought though is why would this not have broken earlier if this is truly being told to recruits on a regular basis?

Honestly...
This isn’t surprising. There isobviously a succession plan in place as they recruit this year. I think that in order to bring these kids in here, there was no way that they were promising 4 years of Joe. They had to eliminate the uncertainty by telling them that the replacement was going to be in house…

Here is the link
Joe Paterno either knows something no one at Penn State will confirm, or he does not know the old adage that one shouldn’t make promises he can’t keep.Players recruited by the Nittany Lions are being assured that when Paterno retires, his replacement will come from the current coaching staff rather than an outside hire.
’’Mr. Paterno told me himself that his replacement is already within the staff, so he’ll just bring one new guy in and bump everybody up in the ranks,’’ linebacker Mike Yancich from Washington, Pa., said.

GSpan is gonna be pissed
JoePa is putting the screws to him again. I think they’ve been saying stuff like this for awhile, but the fact that this story is getting more legs will make the program look bad is Graham looks elsewhere.

That was my thoughts exactly
Either it’s true and this is the final year or Joe is tying Spanier’s arms by letting this go public. If Graham hires outside of the program now, it’ll make PSU look like an unreliable program whose word isn’t any good. I’m okay with hiring from within but if Joe’s forcing the issue with this tactic, I don’t like how he’s going about it and it convinces me even more that it’s time for him to step aside.

Going public
Keep in mind that Joe isn’t really going public with this. This is just the line they are giving recruits. It’s the recruits going public here. So I don’t think it’s some master plan on Joe’s part to paint Spanier into the corner. He’s just doing what he has to do to get kids to play for him. If Joe let something like this out during a press conference I would say he’s making a political move, but not here.

Joe's been the head coach for 42 seasons
He knows that the recruits will talk about it. He knows that by telling these kids that the next coach is coming from within, that it will be public info in a matter of days. Yeah, he didn’t say it publicly but he’s no dumby. He knew it would get out and that’s exactly what he wanted to happen for one reason or another.

You may be right
I wouldn’t put anything past Joe. He knows how to work people with the best of them.

Who are we kidding....
Joe isn’t meeting with the recruits or telling them anything. This is all a ploy contrived by the assistants to keep their jobs and get promoted!!!!!
