Favre-Paterno

Does anyone see any similarities between the two men.

Both are relatively old for their positions.

Both have been tried to have been forced out the door (Favre-GM Ted Thompson, Paterno, Pres. Graham Spanier)

Both have said NO, not until I say so because I LOVE my job, and told the brass to kiss it

Both have replacements waiting in the wings for years (Favre-Rodgers, Paterno-Bradley or other)

Some differences in specifics, but hey so what..

Theres One Big Difference

Joe has far more say in the football team’s future than Favre does in his. If Favre were the GM, which is effectively what Paterno is as a college coach, Randy Moss would be in Green Bay, and Favre would never have retired in the first place. Joe can influence the entire roster directly for years to come. Favre is just a QB asking for another year or two.

Favre is also different in that he is a clear upgrade on Aaron Rogers in the short term. No one is quite sure how much better/different Paterno is than Bradley, as many feel Bradley already does most of the work anyway. This makes Penn State’s situation infinitely more difficult. You can’t trade Joe, and you can’t release him to find work elsewhere. You either end the legend’s career for him, or you wait till he walks out on his own. There is no gray area.

Please don't....

....ever mention the class-less, arrogant, selfish Brett Favre in the same breath as Joe Paterno!

Yes, their situations can be vaguely similar, but they’re MILES apart in terms of class.

Didn’t mean to snap at the original poster, but I just DESPISE everything about the pill-popping, overrated, rape-enabling former quarterback of the Green Bay Packers. The Packers are absolutely justified in turning their backs on Favre. But this isn’t the forum to talk about that. Maybe I opened up a can or worms here, but hatred knows no bounds.

Whatever JoePa’s faults he has 1000x more class than Favre, don’t compare the two.

not comparable

Brett Favre is a media-whore…Joe Paterno avoids the media.

Favre retires, semi-retires, or contemplates retiring every year…Joe refuses to quit his job.
