Rivals.com's PA Top 40
I know a lot of people don't agree with the star rankings, but rivals.com reviewed (who they think are) the top 40 high schools players in PA. I looked at this list and am shocked at the results. Only three recruits in the top 25 are headed to PSU. I know we are slowly recruiting nationally, but it still shocks me at the lack of Pennsylvania natives enrolling for JoePa. Thoughts?

This is my take on it...
Right now, OSU is dominating Pennsylvania in recruiting (specifically western PA) because they are quite possibly the best program in the counrty right now (between them and USC and we will find out that answer in Sept). PSU has recognized this and has shifted their focus to central and eastern PA as well as Maryland; and we all know the results of our focus on Maryland.
One interesting take on those PSU fans who want Bradley as the next head coach…one of TB’s areas of focus for recruiting is Western PA.
LJ Sr.’s focus area is Maryland and Virginia.
Take those two points for what they are worth.

PSU didn't even recruit half of those kids in the top 25
And Drake and Kuntz are right outside the top 25….so far that’s 5 in the top 40 and the recruiting process is by no means complete. Also don’t count us out for Stokes….he may still end up at PSU.

The biggest reason OSU has been gaining ground in Western PA is that Penn St. doesn’t play a game in Pittsburgh every other year anymore, so there’s less opportunity for a west. PA recruit to see the team in person. If PSU could offer a recruit a game in his hometown every two years, that would be an advantage over Ohio State. Penn St. could rectify this situation, it’s a phone call away.

The biggest reason OSU has been gaining ground in Western PA
Is that they are better than Penn State on the field and having a better run athletic program from top to bottom. Pitt has nothing to do with it.

What the hell
it was a four game home & home, the scores of the other three games;
1995 54-14
1994 27-3
1993 63-28
All OSU wins of course.

so, something like this:
“Well, I was all set to commit to Pitt, I mean have you seen that mustach? Anyway, I was doing some research and have decided to play for THE University of Ohio State because of their 72 point win in 1996”

Pitt needs the game more....
And we have called them….we offered a 3-2. Pitt is foolish for not scooping that up. There is no way at this point that Pitt should get an everyother with PSU. So if ya want to harass somebody about Pitt/PSU not playing….harass Pitt! Also PSU is not getting smoked in PA by any means. As soon as Pryor committed to OSU….his RB was a done deal for the Bucs. I would have loved Dorian Bell to come to PSU….but we are not exactly thin at linebacker. Bell wanted to hear that he would play right away…..but that isn’t the case at PSU (and probably isn’t the case at OSU). The difference is the OSU coachs won’t tell him that. Also let’s be honest people…...... OSU has played for the National Title in each of the last 2 years….that’s an impressive resume with recruiting. Chances are they may be playing againg this year, save an upset in conference.

Granted tOSU has a better program at the moment, but that goes in cycles and they’ll come down. Going forward, if both teams are having similar records on the field, from the point of view of a western PA recruit, Penn St. is no different than Ohio St. if they’re not playing games in Pittsburgh.
