Schiano Update!
Not sure if anyone has seen this but this is pretty big news and has direct correlation to PSU football. I can't help but think Schiano put this into the contract because he has either insider knowledge or has been given a verbal that JoePa will be done by 2009. Even if the stadium isn't done by 2009, something tells me that Schiano would leave in a heart beat if he's getting the PSU job. Plus Rutgers is only going to fine him $500k, seems pretty small compared to R-Rod's 4 million.

interesting
i find this story a bit strange. does rutgers know something we don’t?
Why does he seem to be the favorite to take over?
Someone please fill me in. Schiano has had 1, i repeat 1 really good year at Rutgers. With that said, why does it appear that he is the favorite to take over when JoePa retires? What makes him a better decision than Bradley? I’ve heard the “bring in new blood” theory, but really, Schiano? He has a small PSU connection, great record as the defensive backfields coach in the 90s, but I still have a hard time understanding the logic in making this man the next head coach of our beloved nittany lions, over a proven successful established leader like Tom Bradley.
Why is Schiano or (Blank) Outsider worse than an insider?
To play devil’s advocate…Why would Schiano be a WORSE choice than Bradley. Bradley is a “proven succesful leader?” over…who? Is he REALLY 2nd in command after Joe? Is he really more valuable to PSU than LJ SR or…(gulp) Galen Hall? Or even McQuery?
Schiano has had 1…repeat 1 really good year at Rutgers. Likewise, in the past 7 years PSU has had 1…repeat…1 really good year that compares to said Rutgers year. And unlike PSU, Schiano has built UP a program from nothing, kinda similiar to what a young coach from NY did to a cow-college in the mid 60s. What has Bradley really done that hasn’t been given to him. Schiano has earned his way, whereas Bradley has been given his. Schiano isn’t the “favorite,” but he is a damn fine choice.
How can you say Bradley was given his? He’s been on the staff for 30+ years, and earned his way to the top. What he has done isnt any different than schiano. LJ SR is crucial to the recruiting for the entire team, especially with his connections to the DC metro area, but BRadley is a fine recruiter as well, look at all the top notch linebackers we have had. Plus in the games that JoePa was out or up in the box from the injury, who took control?
Rutgers needs to show me 5-10 years of proven success before I grant Schiano the credit of having “built” a program. It takes more than 1 good season.
This will be a very tough decision for Spanier, Curley, and the Board to make whenever the sad day is that JoePa hangs it up may be. My thoughts are if they stay in house, it goes to Bradley.
I am not saying Schiano isn’t a viable candidate, I just dont see a resume that warrants the favoritism from most to take over such a storied program. He has a resume to interview, I was just trying to understand why it seems that most people are saying he’ll be the next head football coach at PSU.
BCS Bowl
I just want to point out that finishing with 1 loss and winning a BCS bowl does more than compare to an 11-2 Dec 27th Texas Bowl season.

You can't blame Schiano
for the Big East having shitty bowl tie ins.
For the Glory; National Champions 1982, 1986, 1994
I'm not...
Without wanting to draw the ire of the BE fans, finishing 3rd (or tied for 2nd, if you want) in the BE and 1st (or shared) in the B10 is not that comparable.

Are you sure?
His team did lose the last 2 games of the season…..................cardinal rule in college football, the best time to lose, is early. Losing key games at the end your season is catastrophic.
Unless you're OSU
In which case you can lose the 2nd-to-last game of the season to an overrated Illinois team and still back into the NCG from #8 in the polls.
I bleed Blue and White.

Bradley vs. Schiano
Bradley’s been great under JoePa, and has shown the kind of loyalty you don’t see much anymore. It would seem that if it were up to Joe, TB would be the choice. Not much would change. Although he’s never been a HC, I don’t doubt his ability to lead the program.
Say what you want about Rutgers, but Schiano’s been good as an assistant at alot of places, and there’s no question he improved that program a great deal as a HC. His hire would create a lot more “buzz” than simply promoting TB, and maybe recruiting in FL would improve. We risk losing alot of assistants, and it’s hard to predict what would happen after a couple years.
I actually think either would be pretty good, but neither will be a legend…
I think once we hire from the outside we'll lose something special
I think if we continue to hire from within, then we’ll continue to receive longterm loyalty from our assistants. If we hire Schiano or someone from the outside, then that’s the day that we join the rat race and possibly become like OSU and the other football factories. I like the fact that PSU is a real collegiate program or at least as close to it as any program out there today. I don’t want to become like OSU. My vote goes for Bradley. Leave Schiano and his helicoptor in Jersey.
Patiently waiting for the return of Penn State Football
