Facebook stalking?  Yeah.  "Phil Taylor is happy to be released from the STATE PENN".

Apparently, Penn State has developed a world-class irony program.

digs? ya, digs.

There might actually be a reason for all of this, but then again who knows.

Chris Baker, 20, of 301 Toftrees Ave., Apt. 319, faces a $358 fine after his pit bull, named Abby, attacked two people in the township, with the victims suffering bite marks to their necks, backs and chests, according to a citation filed at the office of District Judge Leslie Dutchcot.

TNL has a good take for you dog lovers.

by KevinHD on Jul 31, 2008 11:05 AM EDT reply actions

I hadn't seen the police report

That seems slightly more severe than“may have scratched a kid”.

Baker did, however, acknowledge an incident in which his pit bull may have injured a child. Though Baker said he hasn’t received any official citation, court documents show he was charged July 15 with the summary offense of harboring a dangerous dog.

Baker said he didn’t think the dog bit anyone, but said it may have “scratched a kid.”

I’m not one of those “all pit bulls must be eradicated!” people, but those who own them really need to be careful and train them right.

Mentioned in the Dave Jones story this morning, as well.

Joe’s Last Stand

But rumors are flying that there was another scuffle of some sort last weekend.

“No, that’s completely untrue.”

Other rumors claim Taylor and Baker attended a pool party thrown for dismissed wideout Chris Bell, the kid who allegedly pulled a knife in the dining hall.

“No, no one would have done that. Everyone resented Chris for what he did.”

Then what?

“A lot of people said that maybe the ‘Outside The Lines’ thing pushed [Paterno] over the edge,” said the player. “But he said it didn’t bother him one bit. He said he was worried about the team, not what people think about us.”

Penn State kicks 2 off football team

While team spokesman Jeff Nelson gave no reason for the dismissal other than to say the previously suspended players were removed from the team, Centre County District Attorney Mike Madeira confirmed that Patton Township police were investigating an incident at a recent pool party that may have involved several players.

“When I first heard about the pool party I jokingly said, ‘Please don’t let football players be involved,’ ” Madeira said. “But I really know nothing other than they’re looking into a report that was filed.”

The Patton Township police offices were closed as of 4 p.m. yesterday, and Police Chief John Petrick was unavailable for comment, an operator said.

According to a source close to the program, Baker and Taylor attended the pool party – which took place at a State College apartment complex during the Arts Festival – with former teammate Chris Bell, who was kicked off the team in the spring.

I live near Harrisburg and subscribe to the Patriot News

and I find David Jones to be very fair and knowledgeable. He’s definitely not a homer and calls a spade and spade. He will complement Paterno when due, and call him out when necessary. I don’t agree with everything he says, but then who can say that about anybody? I don’t even agree with myself 100% of the time.

We don't need him anyway

That kind of lack of self-control and discipline would have cost us on the field anyway. I can just see him getting flagged for something stupid like a late hit on the QB or a personal foul after we just stopped OSU on 4th down to secure the win. An asshat like him would do something stupid and give them another chance.

But the DA is still just out to get all the guys we haven’t kicked off the team (yet), right? Need to update my scorecard.

by M1EK on Jul 31, 2008 11:46 AM EDT reply actions

Is it easy...

...being a dipshit, or is it a skill you acquire?

No one has claimed Baker and/or Taylor were innocent. I think most people were simply defending the program and the disciplinary actions they took with those two, while criticizing the generally zealous interest the authorities have with our football team. Nobody condones their actions or even disputes their roles in the fights. But people realize that 20 year olds will be 20 year olds and don’t need to be marked for life.

However, whenever the national spotlight is now on the program and your players continue to make missteps despite previous warnings and reprimands, it’s time to go. The leash is tighter on this program and the players now that ESPN jammed it’s nose into our business, whether they turned up anything juicy or not.

I appreciate your efforts to be devil’s advocate, just try not to be so blatantly retarded next time.

M1EK is here for one reason and one reason only… to throw insults that cause people to fight with him. He’s a lonely, pathetic loser. He’s completely uninterested in being a member of either the BSD or PSU community. He’s neither a Penn State football fan nor a believer in anything Penn State has stood for over the last half century. In fact, he knows VERY little about football in general. And I’m guessing his sad little life has led him to a large number of discussion boards where he’s always perceived the exact same way. He’s just an ass who likes to start trouble.

For you fine upthread citizens, RUTS can verify I’ve been talking football on the internets since before many of you were allowed to touch a compu-tor. Old-school, like right after the split into rec.sport.football.pro and .college. I only ran a Big Ten picking contest for approximately 12 years. Not as long as this blog has been in operation or anything, I know.

A little tip: In general, the more homer somebody comes off as, the less you should assume they know about football.

I don’t need to insult you to tell you the truth, which is that you’re nothing more than an instigator. I seem to recall making valid points on another thread, only to get the reply that “I’m an idiot who devalues the PSU brand.”

So just cut the crap, get off your high horse for a change, and stop acting like you’re some PSU martyr.

I should have posted this yesterday, but anyway

I am not a fan of the knee jerk reaction of kicking two players off the team for public relations purposes.

But in the case we should keep in mind that the OTL story didn’t fall out of the sky, they were in State College for about a month reporting on it, and it wasn’t a secret. Knowing that this is going on, two kids that have no margin for error in getting back on the team decide to go to a pool party with the most dangerous living creature on the planet, and a pit bull terrier? It screams disrespect for the old man, that’s why they were summarily kicked off the team without waiting for the facts to come out.

I think it’s pretty likely that the incident at the pool party was nothing, and if I got kicked off the team for nothing I be pissed off too. It just makes Paterno look more inconsistent in his decisions in these matters, but as I’ve said previously, inconsistency doesn’t bother Joe Paterno very much.

Hey...

I’m a proud former owner of a multiple pit bulls, and when I graduate I plan on owning more. Lets not demonize the dogs for what owners do to them. Its been a staple in urban culture for at least a decade to make pit bulls into the toughest dogs on the block. The dogs I owned came from a family that was bred to fight, ala Michael Vick style. But with love and respect, they can be friendly and wonderful companions. I’m sure you could train a Dalmation to bite everything that moves, but that doesn’t make it a problem with the breed. When I was growing up, it was Rottweilers and Dobermans that were the “cool” breed of choice, so hopefully in time people will see these dogs for what they truly are.

For the Glory; National Champions 1982, 1986, 1994

by jesse. on Aug 1, 2008 9:48 AM EDT up reply actions

The reason

The reason it doesn’t make it a problem with the breed is that Pits (and their colleagues) have a much more dangerous bite than other typically bitey dogs. I could train our Bichon to bite (maybe), but he still couldn’t kill you.

by M1EK on Aug 1, 2008 9:49 AM EDT up reply actions

You're absolutely right, Jesse.

Those two dickheads had no margin for error after having been arrested for fighting twice and apparently being suspended for grades also. Now, with hoping for reinstatement they get in another fight? Like somebody commented earlier, that kind of stupidity and lack of control is the kind of thing that will cause a late hit on a quarterback after stopping Ohio State on fourth-and-one. You would think that at some point they would learn, but I guess they want to keep it real. Well, it’ll be real fun working at Burger King because those two idiots blew any chance they had a pro careers. But the boyz in the hood will be proud of their homeys for keepin’ it real. Maybe Dave Chappelle can come out of retirement and do a sequel on these two of “When keeping it real goes wrong.”

True...

but so can a German Shepard, Rottweiler, Doberman, and a number of big breeds. I’m just saying that Pit Bulls get all of the bad rap of being these evil killing machines when they aren’t the only big dogs on the block.

I was out in the trenches, which enables me to paint such a powerful picture, like Apocalypse Now.-Cormega

by OMEGAMAN on Aug 1, 2008 9:52 AM EDT reply actions

Yeah but...

They do have a history of killing people…if they were not great fighters/killers people would not choose them to be the dog of choice for fighting.

I agree that other big breeds can be very dangerous, at my old gig one of our bomb dogs (German Sheppard) attacked the k-9 officer and almost ripped off his bicept…and would not let go. They almost shot the dog before he released.

by SweepTheLeg on Aug 1, 2008 10:31 AM EDT up reply actions

It doesn't surprise me. . .

that he owns a Pitbull. It is often used as a tough guy from the hood status symbol. Unfortunately, it is a very capable breed and when owned by someone as irresponsible as Phil Taylor has proven to be, it has a great deal of potential to hurt someone. However, the reality is that stereotyping a breed because of what it is capable of isn’t right. There are a lot of other breeds that are equally capable. Every pitbull that I have ever encountered has been a pretty sweet and loyal animal, but then again I don’t really associate with the whole urban tough guy crowd or dog fighting rings.
