tickets and such

So reading the "help wanted" fanpost gave me a good idea: ask the briliant citizens of BSD HD for their adive.  My friends and I are planning on making the trip out to columbus for the Ohio State game this year. (despite how bad we might lose)  I was wondering if anyone had any advice about getting tickets at Ohio State.  Has anyone ever gone?  Did you buy tickets ahead of time?  Or did you scalp at game day?  How much did you end up paying?  I started looking online and it seems like all the games at ohio state go for higher prices than those at beaver.  Also did anyone ever have trouble getting a hotel?  I've heard that hotels arn't really a problem like it is in state college because columbus is bigger.

any advice and help would be much appreciated.

Go State in '08.

went to 2006 PSU game

It was a lot of fun, and I’d recommend getting inside the stadium early in the event the band performs script Ohio before the game. I can’t offer much in the way of ticket advice, as I went with some college teammates whose parents had season tickets to OSU and bled from my nose all game in the south end zone. The fans were generally very respectful, even though I wore a blue jersey (don’t be intimidated). The only harassment came from drunk college girls at the bars, which was more fitting of the stereotypes of drunk college girls than a function of Ohio State fans specifically.

College Gameday was there and it ended up being a waste of time, held in a restricted area with expensive beer, poor views of the stage and huge bathroom lines. However, Columbus has some excellent bars, I specifically remember Eddie George’s restaurant being a great place to watch the remainder of the games on Saturday (after Penn State self-destructed, it was mildly placating watching Michigan State one-up us against ND). Also places called Ugly Tuna Saloona and 4 Keg Bar and Grill served as good sports bars, and they’re all on the same road, High Street. As a side note, Eddie George had one-way mirrors installed in all of the bathrooms, which gave them quite the stalker quality. Being able to scout women at the bar while urinating is a gray area in my book.

I ended up passing out at an Ohio State student’s off-campus house, which I would not do again. The off-campus housing in Columbus that I saw appeared to take the form of a slum village and it was a hell of a walk from the bars. I would look for hotels near High Street, and if Columbus is anything like State College, I’d do it today.

Gameday at OSU

Well since I grew up in an Buckeye household and have been to far too many OSU games I can shed some light on gameday in columbus. Tickets are going to be hard to come by. There is just too many buckeye fans that want to see them play and they are going to keep the tickets for themselves. (I lived in Ohio for 24 years, bled blue and white and let everyone know it and not once was I ever offered OSU-PSU game tickets, but any other game they offered they want to keep that stadium scarlet and gray) You are going to have find a scalper who is just out to make money which is going to put the price way up there.

As for hotels, there will not be a problem like State College. There are just too many rooms in the nearby areas to worry about not finding a room. But if you want to be by campus and I suggest you do, I would say call and get one now. There is a Holiday Inn on Lane St right by all the action (football stadium, bars, really what else do you need) There is also a Red Roof Inn on Henderson or Olentangy River Road which is just a bit further away from the action (5 minute walk or so).

I could go on forever about the bars (Columbus is one of my favorite places to go party) but it will just be easier for me to say you can’t really go wrong with any of them.

PSU-OSU tix

I went to the Shoe in ‘04 for the PSU game. Me and a buddy got tickets from a scalper for $75 each about 1/4 mile from the stadium about an hour before kickoff. Granted, we kinda sucked that year and the matchup was lower key than most PSU-OSU games, but they were on the first level, 20 yard line, 15 rows up on the PSU sideline nearest to where the student section is. Sidenote – not sure if it was just the lower key matchup or the 12:00 start time or a combo of both, but their student section was non-existent. Very disappointing to see in respects to Ohio State. Anybody else every notice this? Its also crap how they stuff the visiting fans on the upper deck as far away from the field as they can. At least PSU visiting fans sit in the lower part. Anyways, just as I’ve found for PSU games, the cheapest way to get tickets is before the game at the stadium when holders of extra tickets start to get nervous or just wanna get into the game themselves. Just be patient and start your search no earlier than an hour and a half before kickoff if you can. You’ll always spend more online in the weeks before the game because its a sellers market for the convenience of already having tickets before arriving at the scene.

thanks,

that all makes sense and you ended up getting great seats. While i’ve never been to ohio stadium, i’ve also heard that their student section is bad. They spread them out all over the stadium (except for the block O) so there is no sense of unity.
