Recruiting Budget

http://chronicle.com/temp/email2.php?id=qsMjnbxncyhpzdpGqdzyqxM9hZJffwVt#women

Two things strike me here: (One good, One bad)

1) Bad:  The amount of total budget shortfall we have versus other schools.

2)  Good:  The high percentage of our recruiting budget that is allocated for women's sports.  This is a good thing and can maybe explain some of our success in volleyball and soccer (our Lady Lions just pulled in top recruits from from England (2) and one from Vegas).

We are at a disadvantage on the football recruiting trail when comparing ourselves to other schools (aside from Jay Pa).  As an extreme example, Tennessee allocates almost 6X as much to men's sports as us.

I'm fine with that

It’s amazing how many schools that don’t enjoy the stature or standing of Penn State, have recruiting budgets higher than ours. I’m not sure if we’re not spending enough or if they’re just selling their schools down the river by spending too much on athletics. It’s probably a little of both.

Tennessee

At least we’re bargain-hunters when it comes to finding criminals. Tennessee shells out way more for their thugs.

I'd say these are both good things

We spend less money on recruiting than Maryland, Baylor, and Vanderbilt, among others. I think we recruit better than they do, and we spend less. At first I thought the schools with greater athletic prestige might get away with spending less, but then I saw how much ND spends!

i would venture to say

we might get the most bang for our buck when it comes to recruiting, only 350K spent in male sports for recruiting….it’s amazing how we do that
