Dan Connor

I went to the Panthers/Colts game Saturday night...good crowd for a preseason game.

DC LED THE TEAM in tackles with 6 (if i recall correctly).  Tim Shaw was in on special teams and in the 4th quarter was in @ LB.

It was cool to see them "hanging-out" on the sidelines together.  I hope Tim makes the cut again...he is F A S T!

(and now for the beloved "75" filler)

Conner

I never really did get the reasoning behind him falling so far in the draft, and then ending up buried on the depth chart. Granted I don’t follow the Panthers at all, but are their LBs really that strong? And for all the hype Laurenitis has (1st rounder, immediate NFL starter), Conner was/is simply better. You could even argue that Conner was better than Poz during Poz’s senior year, and Poz was an early 2nd rounder for the Bills.

None of this computes.

Connor in the Draft...

It really boggles the mind, especially when Bobby Carpenter was a 1st Rd pick to the Cowboys a couple years ago.

I'm with you

Not really that Connor was better than Puz that year, but yeah, the computing is def off. Thing about football, tho, at all levels, is that, for the most part, players see the field. Through his play, he’ll make a case clear enough to defeat whatever other politics are present, that the team needs him on the field.

As much as I hated most of what Jimmy Johnson was/is, he still spouted one of my alltime favorite quotes about playing time. I cite it all the time. At the Dolphins, he drafted Zach Thomas in the 5th round, even tho he already had 3time Pro Bowler Bryan Cox starting at middle linebacker. When a reporter, trying to rustle up some locker room dissent/drama, mentioned this predicament to the coach and asked how he was going to handle it, Johnson replied simply: ‘Zach’s better. He’ll start.’

i'll pile on

I didn’t get it either.

With the way Poz has panned out you’d think that would only help Connor, along with the fact that LB is a relatively safe position and he doesn’t have much in the way of a injury history.

Also, Laurenitis’ overhype is one of the most aggravating things going on in sports for me.

...states below, basically shit happens. Some players drop in the draft, some go much earlier than expected. I think it basically comes down to the team that is “on the board” and how those “experts” rank players at the same position against eachother…matter of best guesses/opinions.

Last year in the Bills 1st preseason game, POZ did not start; he did start the 3rd or 4th series of “D” in the beginning of the 2nd quarter. Get this, of the first 11 plays he was on the field, he made “7” tackles!
He played very well in the preseason and practice and in the first 3 games (‘till the broken forearm). He was not the first LB picked (BEASON and the the guy from Ole Miss? went ahead of him). Beason is here in Carolina is tough. He’s their #1 LB. I cannot name the other LB’s between Beason and DC off hand, but they currently are ahead of him (@ this point, but I expect him to be starting shortly – ‘cause he is the man!)
POZ looks bigger than I have ever seen him before; I hope he speed is there. Connor just seems to have a nose for the ball and in time (more practice and preseason games) the staff will see for themselves (not on a college film).

JLaura; talk about hype and over-rating…I REALLY hope someone like Colasanti/Sales/Hull out plays him every game and have the stats that we can just simply point to this whole year.

What will the ‘pressers say/write when our backs/QB/O-line go right @ him…right PAST him this October? PLEASE POST THOSE PICKS OF HIM ON HIS BACK this year with AQ/Wis/Orny on top of him!

Connor

I think his prank phone call incident caused some teams to question his maturity. Poz was also an academic all american so he probably scored higher on the all-important wonderlic test they put a lot of weight on.

Wasn't the prank phone call incident

in the summer of 2005? Talk about holding a grudge.

Connor

Looked like a beast out there in the Carolina game. Connor, in my mind, just seemed a little bit faster that poz in college. He was just a hair better, to me.

I think the big thing is, that players go based on the needs of the league and not based on their actual talents. Connor will rise to the top of the depth chart by the end of this season, it doesn’t matter what round he was drafted in.

As for the media’s love of Laura, let’s be honest, we’re talking about an over-rated LB playing for an over-rated team. Laura is not better than Sean Lee, he was certainly not better than Connor or Poz. The issue here is that the media winds themselves up on hype and every year they are found to be wrong. Just wait till one of our no-name LB’s comes up with better numbers than Laura and wait for the analysts to explain why Laura is still the best despite under-performing. Bleh.

Funny about Carpenter

He is likely going to get cut. I watched the Cowboys pre-season rerun on NFL network the other morning and their announcers were talking about they have no idea what happened to him and why he sucks so bad now.
